It doesn't take away from his masculinity at all. He is masculine by default of being male. If anything it's really making fun of what is expected of the female gender, because when a male is put into that role it's suddenly extremely silly.

Kaidan is more man than most male video game characters, imo. Being a man isn't about being macho all the time.

I actually think it would be funnier if it were Sheploo instead of Kaidan, but no one asked me. ;)

But why no love for Wrex? :crying:

I think the funniest part about that pic is that Ashley is grinning.

Wrex transcends gender barriers.  He'd steal the show from Ash.

It's not Ash show. And there's no way it can be. She's dead on Virmire. Where she belongs :wizard:

Let's just have the entire cast of all three games cling to Ashley's leg. Seriously, all of them. RIGHT. NOW.

This for me. I like Ashley. I just like Kaidan more. He's my favorite party member in ME1. he's cool and collected, what more could I ask for?

Sorry we do no bash any characters here. Kaidan gets enough crap from haters, we do not lower ourselves to that level. All the characters of ME are written the way they are for a reason. We love them all for their strengths and weaknesses.

And actually I think it IS supposed to be Ashley. Because Ashley Williams is the full name of Ash from the Evil Dead and Army of Darkness. Laugh at this artists cleverness and move on please.

It's totally reasonable that different people are going to love or hate different characters, but yeah, let's please try to keep this a "No Hating on Other Characters" zone, especially when it comes to Ashley.

Nobody who likes Kaidan has a choice, if they want to keep him alive.  Ashley *has* to die.  So even those who like her just as much as Kaidan, or even more in some instances, will have to make that decision at Virmire at some point if they want a save with Kaidan to play ME3 with.  It doesn't mean everyone who posts here or shows interest in Kaidan as a character feels negatively towards Ashley.

And as someone who values male characters in fiction who are not portrayed as one dimensional alpha he-men, I'm okay with the occasional traditional role reversal joke, like Kaidan in a wedding dress or the Evil Dead parody.  I'm sure there are people who loathe Kaidan because he's not "masculine" enough for their sensibilities, but I don't worry about what other people are thinking.  If Kaidan can be awesome even when he's being saved by a woman, he can be awesome in a wedding dress.

I know I am super late with this but I read how everyone else started there Kaidan love. so I will tell mine as well.

One day my boyfriend (husband to be next week, Yay) told me to watch him play Mass Effect for a sec, and asked me if I knew who Joker was, so I said I did. Blah blah boring shooter ( i was insane).

I played A LOT of WoW. but one day i was bored. so I decided not to raid and played Kotor instead and of course loved Carth and after I finished I played it again. So I asked my boyfriend what I should play and he suggested Mass Effect, so I started it and hated it completely totally hated it. So I, in my craziness, went back to WoW then a few of my friends started playing again, So I ,being the kind person I am, let them take my place raiding, So I tried Mass Effect again and loved it and I loved Kaidan, but i left him on Virmire (idiot I know). My boyfriend made me feel so bad about it. I couldn't sleep at all that night and had to get up and replay Virmire so that I could save Kaidan and that is how my love began and now continues.

Congratulations in advance!  Awesome guy you found!   And another WoW addict?  :D  I quit with Cata (all the good healers in our very small guild quit), though I came into a gamecard, so I reupped for Brewfest/Hallow's End.  I only started raiding last year, and loved healing.  It was my crack - healing HHoR while undergeared was nervewracking and soooooo much fun!  I can't wait for TOR.

Since we're sharing...

Also got into ME via KOTOR.  Had heard good things about the game, already knew RS was a VA in it (loved Carth even if he did go overboard, because built right he was a freakin' tank), and knew about VIrmire.  Saw it on clearance at Circuit City for $10 when they went out of business, so snatched it up.  Couldn't play it, as my video card was basic.  So, it sat for a while.  Months later got a new video card, and bought Dragon Age: Origins at the same time.  Started ME, played for a bit, switched to DA, played for a bit.  I hated ME because it kept crashing my computer - BSOD, CTD, freezing.  Every elevator ride was a harrowing experience, for fear of being caught in an endless loop of the elevator music!  Kaidan caught my interest in the first conversaton with Joker, the "you're paranoid" line was great!  Then came Virmire, and knew there would be a choice.  Well, I thoguht the very first decision, who to send with the Salarians, was the choice, so Kaidan stayed with me.  Then when he had to stay and prep the bomb, I thought "what did I do?!?!"   Then the actual choice, and I sat for a moment because it blindsided me.  So the lesson is, even if you're spoiled, BioWare doens't make it easy on you.

So here we are.  I have that peppy elevator music as my ringtone, I'm here ont he Kaidan thread pestering all of you, and I still haven't played DA.

Oh yeah, and it's snowing here! <_<  <_<  <_<  The line about popping off incendiaries comes to mind...

And there comes the beauty of having multiple imports with different variables, TZ. Choices like Virmire tend to compel you to replay the game a few times, inadvertently giving it more replay value. It's not something many people would normally do.

Exactly.  There are so, so many little details that are missed by only playing once.  For starters, you have 6 classes, 2 genders, 4 romance options (3 LIs + no romance), roughly 5 "alignments" - all in the first game!  Then other decisions like Rachni, evidence on Anoleis (as an aside, Lorik Qui'in is the cat's pajamas!), the Thorian & its thrall, saving Feros...it goes on and on.  Add onto that options in the 2nd game (though they don't seem as numerous at times), and what will come in the 3rd game.  Sprawling is an understatement.

Sorry but Kaidan looks like a wussy in this pic. And he's so not.

I'm sorry that something that I got a kick out of and shared because I enjoyed offends your masculine sensibilities.  Here's Kaidan being badass.

Image IPB

... oh, wait.  Ashley's stand-in phallic symbol is totally bigger than Kaidan's here.  Crap, that's just making it worse, isn't it?

Well, how about the traditionally masculine pastime of boning a hot chick?  That's totally manly, right?

Image IPB

...wait.  Ash is on top here.  And we all know that a woman topping is against natural order of the universe:o

Well, balls.

Image IPB

... er.

Ah well.

I'll keep your discomfort in mind next time I'm enjoying myself through dicking with conventional gender roles.  :innocent:

We need to dig up some pics of Kaidan getting stupid drunk, or at a sports game.  :P

Shepard: So Kaidan, do you watch any sports?
Kaidan: Yeah, I used to watch zero-gee baseball at Jump Zero.  It was one of the few things they let in for us.
Shepard: Really?  I was always a fan of the New New York Yankees. Who's your team?
Kaidan: (nervous laugh), well, the Boston Red Sox of New England.
Shepard:... you're dead to me.
