Ok I saw some leaked demo footage.... where does it say Kaidan's a Major now?

@Pax: Ashley is LtC? I think I've missed this part. Based on Earth demo where Anderson calls her "Lieutenant!" she may be 2nd Lieutenant (jump on 2 ranks totally from Gun. Chief), EDIT: or 1st Lt. or Staff Lt. - seems even more likely since Anderson calls LtC Shepard "Commander", not "Lieutenant".

About "Major Alenko is Kaidan's father" - I don't mind family input in this form, but since Ashley got promoted after ME2, why not Kaidan?

99.9% sure it's wrong dialog.  Just threw that other idea out there because of the incongruity.

Ah, huge thank you. Now when I irritated everyone with squeeing, postponed everything to Monday and got home, I'll check what I can find and probably make some conspiracy theories.

Ashley is really LtC now? How many time passed since H-mission, a year? Four ranks in a year, that was fast, girl;)

In regards to the 'Major Alenko' bit - I'm a little lost on it.
In ME2, Anderson says he's been promoted to Staff (full) Commander.
So why the change to Major? They're both equal, in terms of rank, so does this mean he's transferred to ground forces? (since, if I'm not mistaken, they're the ones that would use that rank)

It's probably a bug - the demo was very rough.  They likely inserted the wrong bit of dialog.  Animation was bad, graphics were missing.  At first I thought "well, since Kaidan's dead in this person's playthough, maybe it's a reference/callback to Kaidan's father?"  Yet that small snippet of dialog is likely something between Anderson and the VS, whomever it may be.  Anderson says to the person on the other line that "you should contact the Normandy" and that they'll meet at the landing zone.

Yet, it is a pretty major (get it, he's a pretty Major?  :::groan, eyeroll::  spoiler.  Not the least, that Kaidan was promoted 3 ranks in what, 4 years?  What's even more surprising, is that Ashley is now a Lt. Commander, a jump of 5 ranks.

Why is Ashley even on the Normandy? I'm not jumping on the major bandwagon mostly because lietenent Alenko rolls off the tongue better.

It's a default thing, since they're using Sheploo for the trailers/demos so far.
(if they used FemShep - you'd most likely see Kaidan)

Oh, if you listen to the part where Shep & Anderson go outside, Anderson says Ashley was on her way to the Normandy. (IIRC, they were taking a different route to look for injured personal)

Wiki (and, I believe, ingame codex) thinks that Major corresponds to Captain.

Thanks for the responses guys. That text about the different modes sounds good to me as I'm a story person. I'm taking that it's just a complicated easy to hardmode....?
