I've never doubted that Kaidan can be promoted - just two things that bothered me:

- shouldn't he became Captain, like ME1 Anderson? Why the distinction?

- Major/Captain is pretty high rank, and, with large part of Alliance command probably destroyed in initial attack/trapped on Earth, can it be that Kaidan would go away to play commanding role?

Perhaps because Kaidan seems to have been working for Anderson on covert missions (like Horizon) not commanding a starship. Hence Major instead of Captain?

And I have that gameplay youtube link. While I don't want spoilers, I do want to know what Vega sounds like. At what point in the vid do you hear him?

I'm pretty sure it's just for the naming purpouses so that Anderson is known as a Captain, Kaidan as Major, Shepard aa (Lieutenant) Commander, Ash as Lieutenant (Commander) etc. To avoid repeating the same title for many characters.

4:16 Thats the only reason I downloaded the video, or else I don`t want to many spoilers either.

You know. I was thinking about the ranks. Is it possible that Kaidan was made Major by the devs so there wouldn't be a conflict over who commands Normandy?

But then Ash is exactly the same rank as Shep, so there would be conflict in her case. I don't think it really mattered.

The only situation where I can smell rank confusion is if some quarians will call Shepard "Captain" again - because s/he's the captain of the ship and Kaidan would be Captain instead of Major. Or some gamers will assume that Captain (rank) = Captain (of ship). Is that what you're suggesting, Kia?

I think that's why Shepard gets reinstated as aa Spectre, that way they both ahve equal say but I think Kaidan and Ashley will defer to Shepard in some cases.

I'm VERY excited about Kaidan making Major.   I know people have concerns about Shepard's rank, but I have a very strong suspicion that Shep is going to be promoted to Captain.  It might be a field promotion made by Hackett.  

If Shepard is a Captain in ME3 will that make her of equal rank to Kaidan?

Four more month to go and I can't wait!!!

Major Alenko does sound really good. I wish the leaked video had Kaidan instead of Ashley. I really would have loved to see what the writers have done to him.

Finally caught up....

All this stuff would hit when I decided to get off the computer early yesterday LOL.

Watched/downloaded everything. I'm in love with ALL I have seen...even MP. Although Vega sounds different than I imagined he might, and quite young. I was thrilled to see him animated though intead of just stills. I hardly recognized Ash...

I smiled when I heard "Major Alenko" too, although I thought it was probably just a glitch, but we shall see. I can't bloody wait for the long awaited FemShep trailer. Sure wish that would get leaked by some kind soul.

Thanks to Mineralica for posting the link to ranks on the ME wiki. I was finding it all rather confusing too until I read that.

I've done numerous play throughs of ME and ME2 and I've always stayed faithful to Kaidan. I'm wondering if anyone knows if there are major repercussions if you have a relationship with someone else in ME2 that will carry over to ME3. I don't want to make my Kaidan very angry with me

The devs have said there will be "consequences", and there is at least one quote floating out there to the effect that it could backfire on you at the worst possible time.  But to my knowledge there hasn't been anything more substantive revealed about it.

Nobody knows yet. I have mostly faithful FemSheps, but I do have one "cheater" just  to see the difference it makes in ME3. I think you will be able to get back together with Kaidan if you want, or break up with him completely.

If he's just gonna give me a stern talking to and then we get to make up, I'm fine with that . But if they're gonna let him die or something silly because I allowed my shep a moment of weakness, I'll pass. I just wondered with the ME2 LI were like since I'd never played through any of them.
