Yeah, it got shot up while I hid behind it during Geth Incursions. After the enemies were gone, I got in while it was still on fire, went over a small hill, and got a critical mission failure. I didn't know the Mako could get damaged from driving, but... there you go. XD

Yeah, I get lucky with those sometimes. :innocent:

Or maybe my Shepard is just that troublesome. Maybe I should roll him a more sympathetic, paragon-y adept or an engineer or a sentinal sometime.

Shepard: "Lieutenant! Something appears to be wrong with the Mako."
Kaidan: "... No kidding, Commander."
Shepard: "I believe now would be a good time for you to teach me some of those technical tricks you're so fond of. Where do we start?"
Kaidan: "... what?"
Shepard: "What, indeed. To find the solution, you must find the problem. Now... what could possibly be wrong with this vehicle?"
Kaidan: "Shepard. It's on fire."
Shepard: "... you are good, aren't you?"

"*sighs* You're not allowed to drive anymore, Commander."

This was exactly what came to mind when we first take control of the Mako. A hundred years into the future and women still can't drive LOL. xD Hilarious.Estelindis wrote...
Too funny, FireEye. I don't know whether it's a stereotype of female driving, or simply the fact that Shepard needs some extra flaws to make her less of a Mary Sue, but I always imagined she was terrible at driving the Mako as well and Kaidan had to take over. Or maybe it's the fact that I, as a player, was awful at driving the darned thing and projected my awfulness onto Shepard.
As for where Kaidan comes in, I see him keeping his mouth shut as a polite gesture, even though at the back of his mind he's practically screaming how horrible a driver Shepard is. If not for a great sense of self-control he probably would've shoved Shepard out of the driver seat and drove the Mako himself.
But then again he's always been for honesty. Maybe he pulls Shepard aside for an off-duty chat about her driving at some point? xD

Well that's comforting. xD Though even though I can't drive that thing either, I still would hope for it to return in ME3... Just because. Or I want I joke about Shepard's driver-expertise in a "good old times" chat.
I stopped counting how often I set the damned thing on fire...

I always had a problem driving Mako when started ME1 after long pause. Exactly what happened with my first Kaidan-loving femShep: several failed driving at first missions, the rather decent (minus damned front wheel) rest of the game.FireEye wrote...
I never had a problem driving the Mako. Then again, in my head, Kaidan's driving, Shepard's... navigating? And Ash is playing with the guns. (Alternately, Ash is navigating and Shep is playing with the guns, but... they're guns, they probably fight over the guns.)

<facepalming Kaidan>
So, explanation in "head canon": after several missions where Shepard was driving and Wrex was shooting, it was found out that no matter how Vanguard are you, it's a bad idea to charge on Mako straight through hills. So from that moment Kaidan was driving and Shepard was shooting. And Wrex... roaring?

I'd wear it. XD

Kaidan: "Guess what I got my hands on last night!"
Ashley: "I'm betting it wasn't Shepard, since we were up playing cards until dawn."
Kaidan: "..."
Alt:
Ashley: "Brag and it will never happen again."

Kaidan: "You're no fun."

And that'd be a shame because Ash sure knows how to have fun.

It didn't this time, unless it never did and I imagined it and only the ME2 romance comes up in the conversation?

I fear you imagined it, Geisha. I've never seen it or read of others seeing it. Kaidan comes up in the context of Horizon (if you choose "I'm frustrated") but only to be upbraided for being shortsighted in Liara's view. Not in any positive context as a love worth fighting for. :-(
Ah man, I hate my mind sometimes. So sure things happen and turns out I'm crazy
