Ooooh, I quite like that pov better. I was unhappy stuck in my tunnel vision. Although I think my Shep might back him into a wall in the loft, or the elevator, or....
Yes, I quite like that take on his statement more and more...

Never. Though I will try whenever I get there with my Sheploo... (not any time soon)
@ Fire Eye Love that pic!
I guess even when I'm sick I can't stay away from this thread.

"Off the record?" XD
I'll admit I have, I don't exactly know how many times, but I've done it. On my third playthrough of ME1 with my canon Shep, I know for sure he was left behind because I decided to fool around with Liara that time, but couldn't bear to have him just standing there...ok, so that's a horrible reason, but was before I was really, really into ME and Kaidan in general. More recently, I've tried to make a conscious effort to have him and Ash spared equally, not with the same Shep, because, you know, that's kind of impossible, but for each Shep I make (and always fail to follow through with D:).

I figured I owed her at least one playthrough, and so I did it when making my Shep for Vega.

Don't know if this has been asked already, if it has sorries if not well would anyone throw over Kaidan for any of the new romances if they turned out to be like joker or vega? Or would you just start a new shep just to do the new romances? Truthfully I would love a jokermance but I think I would have to have a kaidanless shep to do it.
I noticed quite a few Kadanites flocking over to the Vega thread en masse, and haven't yet returned... I can't say, depends how the story plays out. I mean say, what if Vega saves your life and Kaidan cheats on you? Oh wait is that soap I see? Soap to wash my mouth out with?
Personally, I wouldn't go for anyone else but Kaidan. I MIGHT make another save to romance Joker... but I don't see it happening, and Vega seems like.... the new guy.. and I feel like my Shep might be a cougar if she hits on him ):
Now if Vega saved shep's life and Kaidan cheated on my Shep with Miranda/Jack/Kelly or any other of the normandy crew members while I was 'with' Kaidan again, there would definitely be slapping... to everyone BUT Vega. But Kaidan isn't like that

Yea, especially if his turning down of hot tentacle threesome is anything to go by. *Mild spoiler ahead* Although I was three-quarters joking though, ultimately the fate and lives of fictional characters lie completely in the hands of writers, hence the screams of OOC since the leak, and somebody does in fact cheat on Shep possibly. But yea I didn't hear of any such things about Kaidan obviouslyClara Shepard wrote...

Quick q for those who are spoilered up to date and are unhappy about it: Without having to spoil anything, was it just the circumstances you dislike, or is Kaidan written out of character?

I got that impression too. He knew he had feelings for her, but Kaidan strikes me as the type who would wait and wait for the right moment and sometimes let the right moment pass him by because he waited too long. He is very cautious type. Ashley's About Horizon was much more direct and Kaidan was more like he was testing the waters. 'Wait and see' if you will.FireEye wrote...

"HEY, KAIDAN I BROKE THAT THING AGAIN!"
I also think that Kaidan didn't fully intend on sleeping with Shepard before Ilos. It seems to me that Kaidan went to Shepard's room of just letting her know that he had her back. Having her on her back was probably an after thought.

I agree. I defintiely never got the impression that he came to Shep's room for any other reason just to talk to Shep about the mutiny and possible repercusions and to let her know she could rely on him. Fortunately Shep had other ideas, lolmeonlyred wrote...

As for him always leaving a way out - that's always struck me as a defense mechanism. He's leaving himself a way out in case Shepard doesn't return his feelings (and out of courtesy, he leaves her a way out too if she wants it). He's super cautious, and in the locker scene he doesn't know precisely where he stands with her yet (though he knows where he would like to stand).
The night before Ilos, I think he just really needs Shepard to know he cares and supports her. When she makes an advance, he responds and finally fesses up. Judging by the tone of his voice in the morning, he's made his decision - at which point he's no longer looking for a way out. Once committed, he's loyal. That's why it took him those two years to get past surviving.
As to Vega: I must be the only person here to whom he doesn't actually appeal. I mean, he seems nice enough but he's just not my type. Won't be romancing him at any point.

I just think that way more people have Ashley than Kaidan, so in fact I am helping him as a character to get recognised.
On the topic of Kaidan's "leaving a way out" etc What do you think the reason is he fell for Shepard, I don't see him being the sorta guy to have a crush on every woman he meets. Even from the get go he has his eye on her I think.

Ooh I know! I know I know miss! *raises hand* Shepard is you! It's the same dealio with Mshep, some of lines are laughable yet he charms his way into anyone's knickers. If you're trying to roleplay though I think the most obvious reason is he finds her beautiful(even if you make a derpshepard lol). That certainly fit with "from the get go" and with everyone's different personalities it's easier to explain everyone's attraction to the same person as physical. Shallow I know.ZombieGeisha wrote...
I havent Virmired him yet, even with the comic I have failed. I feel bad for not giving Ashley a chance (she's my FemShep's best friend in ME1) but I think now that Kaidan is part of Mass Effect to me. It doesn't feel right with Ashley

Being knew to ME I have a fair amount of things banging about in my head about the game and Kaidan of course, I can only apologise if some of the things I may bring up have been done to death but I hope you won't mind re-hashing Kaidan discussions,
I can feel the pounds piling on as I sit here eating all these virtual Kaidan cookies
Since we know Kaidan prefers a "way out" strategy in his dealings, there are a couple of scenarios where I'd love to get inside his head:
I'm trying to imagine Kaidans state of mind or what he was thinking when he wrote the post Horizon letter, did he read it back, delete, re-write and edit it a gazillion times before finally clicking on the send button?
Imo it reads almost as if it's "off the cuff" as in written as he's thinking it, perhaps then sent immediately without reading back so as not to talk himself out of sending it. Although its a pretty open-ended letter its a fairly brave thing for someone, like Kaidan, to do as once feelings etc are in writing and sent they cant be easily retracted.
Do you think he wonders or perhaps worries how Shep reacted to it? Or is he confident enough in how much he knows her (or the old her) to know she would understand its meaning and/or sentiment?
Looking forward to seeing what you all think
Going for coffee and more cookies
Have a Good Day!

No, you're not alone
About Ilos... I don't know. He seemed really decisive in Sheps quarters. I mean, remember how he takes a step closer to Shep first. I think his intentions were quite clear. But that could be just my point of view.
And a way out... I think he just doesn't want to get hurt in the end if at some point something turns out badly. And that's what actually happend for him when Shep died and came back again. There's a lot of hurting going on.

From a metagaming PoV, yep - he loves you because it's you
But in character, I don't think the physical attraction is entirely it. I mean, sure, finding someone physically attractive helps, but he does tell you he's attracted to adventurous women (in contrast to the 'bookish' Liara). You also know he doesn't act on physical attraction casually.
I think what catches his interest is that you saved him from the beacon on Eden Prime and then had the grace to exonerate him of any blame for what you went through as a result (he plainly was feeling guilty). That act of understanding makes him see you as more than just the sterotypically brave Commander - it lets him know you have a heart, too. He's a fair-minded kind of guy, and he finds the same sort of trait appealing in Shepard. A strong, assertive, decisive woman who can also think beyond the moment and empathize is nigh-irresistable to him .

as for his leaving a way our strategy - I always took it as "don't paint yourself into a corner and make sure you consider all the options carefully". he IS a cautious man, especially after painting himself into a corner with Virnus. he has experienced first hand what happens when people (in his case, alliance) start cutting corners. innocent people get hurt.
He can and does commit. to a cause, to a person. He can deal with points of no return.. IF they really are the best option. He just needs to make sure its the right thing to do
gah, top, can someone else take care of it please?
