I did that. Now, when I'm getting after one, I run through all three of their names before I get to the correct child. Alliteration puts the "fun" in dysfunction!

Also, dancing Kaidan is l'awesomesauce!

I have a son named Titus.  I think the Roman theme can be kinda cool if you don't go crazy. I prefer something like that to naming all your kids with names that start with "J" or some such (I had a friend who did that). I like less common names too. You meet a zillion Rebeccas...the only stab at originality my parents made is my slightly less common spelling of Rebekah. It's kinda fun to read everyone's actual name as opposed to their forum name.
 :wizard:

Heh, I liked when they did that in Charmed. If I had a girl I would have named her Piper, but my sister-in-law beat me to it, so now I'm not going to (if I have kids). There were these two sisters in my hometown, they had their daughters within a month of each other. The first sister who had her daughter later said she wanted to name her Alicia, so the second sister named her daughter Alicia, since she had hers first. The first one got p*ssed and named her daughter Alicia anyway. So there's two cousins with the same name. What a dick move.

Where do you think Kaidan's parents got his name? From the family tree, or family friend, or maybe from a soap opera? (That's where mine's from. XD)

Er, sorry, I wasn't trying to be critical of that naming style, so I hope you don't think I was. My friend has very nice "J" names for all 5 of her kids, it's just not something I ever thought of until I met her. :) I think every mother goes through a list of all her kid's names before she can hit the proper name she was trying to yell in the first place. Also, I think mother voices automatically go shrill in certain situations.

"Kaidan Alenko! Put that furniture down this instant, and STOP floating your brother through the air. I don't care if he does think it's "fun", I don't!!"

A year ago, to mess with my mom's head, I mentioned I'd name all future children what ever is the most popular name. As payback for what I grew up with. (KAITLIN! KAITLYN! KAITLYNNE!!!) She gave me the "mom glare."

Do you think I should tell her I'll name them after video game characters next time?

Not at all! I was just outing myself. It was actually quite accidental that the first 2 were J names. My oldest is named after his father's brother (now deceased), and the middle child after my favorite male tv character at the time
mmmmmm Pretender ...
By the time the third came along, I figured why ruin the hat trick?

Baaaahahahaha! That's when the middle name comes out. When I heard "Samantha Eve!" in my house, I knew to run for the friggin' hills.

Heh, speaking of names, I have issues with my first name because for some reason there are so many blonde girls with that name (it seems like a bad stereotype :() and you almost never see anyone else named that name that aren't blonde (except for me)

I can only blame my dad for the sudden last minute name suggestion. (But he is the one who pretty much brought the sci-fi/gaming elements in my life, go figure.)

Ok, so on the subject of names...I always felt that mine was incredibly boring and no one had the same name as me: Tina. Not short for anything...just.....Tina.

Not all preggos are like that.  I always picked out my own names, after carefully researching the meaning. I didn't want to give any of my kids a name with a root meaning of snot wad or something equally tragic. Did I mention my baby girl is named Aria? All I think of half the time when dealing with her tantrums is the famous censored line in ME2. I thought of that name first, BioWare!

I think Kaidan's mother named him, and it was likely a name of one of her great grandfathers that she always enjoyed hearing family stories about. (Just made that up, I really haven't a clue)

It will be interesting to see if we learn any more about Kaidan's family or their history/backstory in ME3.

Definitely, when my mom yells at me she normally goes through my brothers' names and/or my niece and nephew's before she finally gets to Nancy.  She's even accidentally called me by her dog's name before. lol

I've always wondered if they had ever announced a middle name for Kaidan since there was a data book or something that gave Ashley's. I wonder if they've just never thought of it or if he doesn't have one.

Ash even got a full bio, down to her blood type.

I love small things like that for characters.

Yes!  When the middle name comes out, then there's trouble.  Or if the parent accents the last syllable of the name - so Kai-DAN.

As for other non-popular names, my father's name was Zoltan, as was his father's.  He went by his second name, though he did occasionally use "Zoli" with his parents.  My brother got Zoltan as his middle name.  Paternal grandmother wanted him named Zoltan, and dad basically replied "hell no".

@Sammy Yeah, middle names mean BIG trouble.

Now that is an extreme level of agitation right there. Very lulzy when my mom got so flustered once, she turned a word around and said f*ck. I think my eyes nearly bulged out of my head, because my mother invented prim and proper lol. She pretended it didn't happen and so did I, but I've never forgotten hehe.

I almost prefer not knowing if Kaidan has a middle name, because what if it sucks? =P

To this day, my mother can't remember my name lol.  She has gone down the list of: my brother, sister-in-law, her parents, the cats, her family (large Italian-American, like 40+ first cousins), her friends.  She finally ends with "oh you know what I mean", and never rememebrs my name.

As for Kaidan's name, probably something plain like Christopher, or multiple second names.  Also figure that, if Shepard and Kaidan were to marry, they would keep their non-married names.  Can't see Shepard changing names, and much like in Highlander, there can only be one Shepard.

Where'd you get that impression?

... Other than that he was originally going to be "Alexander Kalenko" or whatever it was.

I assume the change (if that really was a suggestion) happened after first person who knew Russian died from laughter at BioWare office - that "surname" is butchered word "knee".

And for middle name - I was all for "James" (short, doesn't have syllables which would mess up with existing first name and surname... at least as it sounds for me; plus I'm just biased), but then actual James appeared.
