For me, ME1 will always be better than ME2. The story sucked me in straight away, as did Kaidan, lol. My problem with ME2 isn't lack of Kaidan, it's just that I never felt that involved with the story or that I was playing my Shepard. For the first half of my very first ME2 playthrough I was just yelling WTF, and other things,lol, at Shepard, much to the amusement of my sons.
Pretty much this. ME1 is a new universe to play in, with all the wonder of learning new things. It had a decent story that flowed, one point to another. ME2 I see as little vignettes: each recruitment & LM is a self-contained story set against the background of the Collector plot. The Collector/Cerberus plot, IMO, is a mess, so having that view of individual stories helps me deal.
I even enjoyed ME1's gameplay more. Yeah, I hate thermal clips with a passion, and would happily deal with overheating over that. Can't tell you how many times my Vanguard died in my first playthough because I ran out of cover to get clips. And I liked managing power cooldowns in ME1. Easiest fight with Saren was Vanguard or Adept, Kaidan, and Wrex (Liara if I wanted it to be a cakewalk). Toughest was Soldier, Ashley, and Garrus, holy crap!

First time driving on Feros, on the skyway - jumped right over the side!!! First time on the planet with Liara - drove right into the lava!!! First time on Virmire - you see where this is going. 
That right front tire is permanently red because Shepard is a bad driver. I would walk away from the computer and do something else, or read a book, waiting for the shields to regenerate on the Mako. Ah the Mako, fills me with warm fuzzies just thinking about it.
