I don't care what people do in their games in private. i don't give a damn. they can do whatever the hell they want, whatever makes them happy. I care what they do or say in public areas that I'm now forced to avoid. because I'm not supposed to like more then one character or get offended or upset at unreasonable hate and mob mentality. because its wrong for me to say something, any thing, I should just shut up and say nothing, solely because they have majority on their side.

and then what happens? their voices get heard, acknowledged and they get what they want. and to hell with everyone else. because they weren't loud enough because they shut up and people in charge assumed that they don't care.

Leah I agree with you completely about comparing Garrus, Tali, and other squadies to Kaidan. Their argument makes Kaidan look really bad. We had this same topic going on in the Femshep thread and I had this to say. There isn't a single character I hate in this game. There are character I love to love and love to hate. I don't agree with putting a single character on a alter and worshiping every word they say, nor throwing them to the gutter when character development leads to drama. I know its hard to ignore but I just remind myself to feel sorry for people who can see the larger scope of what a wonderful story is unfolding at their feet.

Kaidan is my favorite character in this story. I love him for his flaws as much as I love him for his good points. If he was perfect I won't give two s***s about him.

@leah - We're not talking about the same thing.  I only rephrased what I said initially since you mentioned a snippet from my post.  Although I'm not quite sure I follow what you are saying in your last comment, it's unfortunate you feel your voice is drowned out wherever it is you're alluding to.

Over time I have come to the place where I don't see betrayal on either side...they were just two people who were falling in love (or already in love however you chose to see it) who became the victims of circumstance. Just when things began between them they were torn apart by Shepard's death. Pain on both sides. Seeing each other probably would remind them of what they both lost and bring up all that pain. I could see it taking a while for both of them to deal with it. Just my viewpoint for my Femshep. Back to lurking for now.

I really like your viewpoint for your shep.

:)Thanks...I just hope they can have a happy ending...even with all the stuff that happened with Anders in DA2 at least the writers gave the option of riding off into the sunset together...I'm hoping for the same in ME3.

I don't think it's a problem with what people do in their own playthroughs, per say. It's when they make fanfiction or fanart that is too extreme in one direction, portraying rival characters are villains so that other characters can be portrayed as perfect and flawless. (especially in cases where this and this are applicable). And since this is the good old internet, you get tons of fans who will praise/criticize those fanworks, and fights happen everywhere, especially when anyone gets too defensive.

It's not just Mass Effect, it happens in all fandoms of everything. 

It's disheartening to some people when they read a fanwork (like The Spectre and the Archangel comic) that they really enjoy, and then all the comments are hateful against a character, even when the artist/author is staying objective.

It seems to me that, as a rule, when it comes to the interwebs - the currency of the realm is vitriol. For every one person trying to take part in conversation on any given subject, there are 5 trolls waiting to anonymously spew venom at anyone who will read it. The plebs have a voice, and it is most often uttered in spurts of 150 characters or less.

The thing I love about this thread, and the reason it's the only thread I deign to frequent, is that it's based on one thing that a group of people can agree on, rather than disagree on. We all love the dark-haired biotic demigod. We can agree or disagree about whether we like what the creators of this particular character have done with him after birthing him, but for the most part, I've found that those of you who post here tend to do so civilly. That's what brings be back and makes me want to catch up when I'm 2 days and 5-7 pages behind.

So true...I don't think there is a forum I've been on that didn't have the same conflict. As for the villianizing of characters to make other characters look better...I think that's a disservice to the character that they are trying to make look good. Does the character have so little positive qualities that another character has to be put down in order for them to look good? I'm talking more along the lines of forum comments I guess...as for ME fanfiction I don't think I've really read anything that villianzed Kaidan but then I haven't read or wrote anything in a long time. Just my opinion..I guess I'm throwing my two cents in as well.

I pretty much tend to avoid fanfic that involves Shepard moving on after Horizon. Too many people use it to present a knee jerk reaction and a childish delight in 'cheating' on Kaidan after Horizon, and go out of their way to belittle him.

You know I'm not sure why this has gone on for so long. This all started because one person decided that another persons comments were directed at her. People need to get over their own self importance and give their egos a rest and realise that usually a persons opinion is just that and not meant as to offend or put down anyone else in the thread.  I'm all for debates but sometimes people take things that are written way too seriously.

Seriously though, I was lurking earlier and had to opt out because I was not in the mood for some of the drama that seemed to be developing.  Well that, and I got tired and took a nap.  However, when I popped back in and read some of the comments it occured to me how special this thread is.  Here we are able to share and discuss our varying interests and viewpoints and are comfortable enough to do so, whether those viewpoints differ or not.  Regardless of how much vitriol (GREAT word btw Sammy!) is spewed, and how intense the debate gets, from what I've seen, we're always able to get back on to the topic of Kaidan and his many attributes that we like and/or dislike and discuss topics in a mature, rational manner.
Considering this is pretty much the only thread that I visit (and Night visited!  YAY!!) I have to say that even with the occasional debates/heated discussions and differing viewpoints, I love this thread.  I enjoy the posters in it, I enjoy the discussions we have, and all the differing types of Shepards and gamers that participate.  I imagine the lurkers are awesome as well and enjoy the unique insight they offer when they do decide to post.
But I'll apologize for my wall o' text.  Random post is random, but I just wanted to throw in my two cents.

Well, my Shepard is a biotic too so Biotic Children FTW! I totally agree about Kaidan being a wonderful father though, patient, caring, sensitive but subtle... Oh, be still my beating heart!

In my headcannon my canon shep actually has 3 kids. (one a girl having "Ashley" as her middle name actually), but that might change depending on the ending of me3. this here assumes the galaxy will be intact enough to raise kids. and since femshep will prolly not having probs with getting pregnant at age 40 to 50 it'll be some years after me3 end.

Oh, that is SO cute! I could totally see Kaidan building lego star wars ships too. That's something he'd totally do being part engineer.

Honestly for my Shepard, she'd have two kids, one boy and one girl. Both of them would have huge shoes to fill but they'd do it swimmingly with the support of great parents.

My artsy talents are nil, but if someone could come up with pic of Kaidan either wrapping presents or popping out of one (or wrapped on only a big red bow???) they would totally be my hero for life!
