KOTOR doesn't really pick up until you finish the tutorial (the ship) and the first planet (Taris).
The sex of the protagonist doesn't matter that much beyond who your romance - if anyone - Carth or Bastila. I'd genuinely recommend a male PC because of the MAINPLOT IMPORTANCE of Bastila.
However, if you're going to play through the game twice (light and dark side are really different experiences) then I'd recommend Male PC Darkside and Female PC Lightside, for reasons I really can't explain without major endgame/romance spoilers.
If you're just playing once, I'd go Male PC Lightside as that's pretty good and also happens to be the "canon" (TOR says so). Just finished a playthrough of that for livestream last week.

anyway, what if they'd allow something like friend-mance and rivalmance?

Hmm, the only char I both friend-manced and rivalmanced in DA2 was Fenris, so I only have that to compare it to.
If you could rival-mance Kaidan by going renegade then he would probably just object to every harsh or ruthless action you took and complain about it all the time, then his lyrium markings would glow and he'd shove you up against the wall and - Oh I'm sorry wrong game *thinks about Kaidan shoving her Femshep against the wall - THUD*
Also Chignon that Flux pic is utterly adorable!

You know, for some weird reason, I can see that happening the *shoving femshep against the wall* part.

Ash also seems to have gotten a commission and jumped another rank between ME2 and ME3, so Kaidan may very well have made Captain... or Major. Alliance ranks can be confounding.
Not really confounding, they just use naval ranks (where captains are higher in rank as they are ship commanders) instead of air force or army ranks (in which captain is a lower rank with no particular significance).

okey, I hijacked the thread anyway, let's get back to some Kaidan, shall we
inbetween all the discussion about how the romance can be picked up after ME2 or started (wait was there any information that the VS would be available for the opposite gender if they hadn't starteda romance in ME1? ... they only talked about how it all pays off if you were faithful ...)
anyway, what if they'd allow something like friend-mance and rivalmance?

As far as i'm aware there hasn't been any info about the VS being available for an s/s relationship. They've just said there will be s/s relationships, but no hints yet as to who it might be. I might be wrong about that though i've not been avidly browsing news so much in the last fortnight, i've mostly been lurking here.

I don't mind s/s romance, but I do hope they don't entirely treat Ash and Kaidan as the same character.
They were my favorite characters in ME1, and they're supposed to be different people.

Kind of agree with this. I mean, it's not like there's even a big need for a female s/s romance with a main character of the franchise as the is for male s/s romance with a main character of the franchise, since there's Liara already as a f/f LI, from the very beginning, who will also end up with the biggest romance arc of all the characters actually (ME1 + LOTSB + ME3). Different sexual orientations would at least help somehow make Ash & Kaidan different, rather than having them be just the same "VS character".DWH1982 wrote...

You're not. I'd be very VERY disappointed if they lump Ash and Kaidan together again. They are two separate characters with very different personalities and should be treated as such. While it's understandable for them to have a similar reaction on Horizon, well... I still can't get over how they both commented about "dead civilians" in the first game.KawaiiKatie wrote...
Am I the only one afraid that Ash and Kaidan are going to get the "Carver/Bethany" treatment in ME3?
I mean, I trust Bioware to write an damazing story, and to write both characters well... But their games constaly remind me that they're a company, and to maximize profits, they have to cut corners and reserve reasources. The fact that Kaidan and Ash had identical dialogue on Hoirzon doesn't give me much hope...
But they should be distinct people. And, ideally, they will be. But, then again, Carver and Bethany should have been different people, too....

From what I was told by a friend (considering I can't hear) that Kaidan sounded very angry and Ashley was all "Meh, okay" sounding where Horizon was concerned.
