@ Sammy: The balcony scene is easy to miss. It's on the Citadel near Flux. When you approach the large window to look outside it triggers a cut scene where Kaidan stumbles over his words as he's talking to Shepard :)

Yay! Something new to look for during my current "Jaybus, get me through these next couple of months" playthrough. :o. Thanks, yo!

I think you have to be careful about the timing if I'm not mistaken...it's been a while but I think you need to do it as soon as you get back from talking with the council before you do any quests or the opportunity disappears at some point...if I'm wrong someone please correct me.

Starting to feel like the poster child for unofficial achievements here, first with doing Feros on foot, now using the Mako without missiles. What's next I wonder. :P

Say what you will about the Hammerhead, but that thing could throw up some shields pretty damn fast.  I could knit a scarf in the time it too the Mako to get back to full power.

I'm also suggesting to BW that they make an official in-game acheivement "Chylise: 50G - Finding a way to make something way more difficult than it has to be and then pulling it off with style"

Yeeeeeeah, I would browse YouTube looking for videos while waiting for the Mako to recharge. It's one of the things I like better about the Hammerhead as well.

Bwhahaha, I <3 your achievement idea.

Just another quick note, you need to watch the scene before recruiting Wrex or Garrus. Otherwise a couple NPCs are standing by the balcony and you're unable to trigger the scene.

I found myself pondering a question that has caused me to de-lurk. In working on my character's back story, I found I was torn as to when my Shep had first fallen for Kaidan.
I'm thinking that while there may have been chemistry prior to Eden Prime, she didn't really realize how she felt until Kaidan asked her if she always paid close attention to all her crew.
How about you guys? When did your Sheps start noticing that dashing lieutenant?

For my Shep's that I've actually gone to the trouble of giving a backstory, their first meeting was aboard the Normandy. In my head canon they hadn't crossed each others paths before, although Kaidan knew who Shepard was, obviously, lol. He thought she might be stuck up and a bit of a hard ass because of her being the poster girl for the Alliance, but he didn't realise that she was a biotic until they met on the Normandy, which gave them some common ground from the start.

I did actually start writing a fic ages and ages ago about all this but it sort of got shelved after a couple of chapters. R/s and Mary Sue got in the way, lol. *sigh* one of these days I might actually finish some of the ten billion fics I started and then shelved for various reasons, lol.

Can do it during your first visit to the citadel. Has to be you, Ashley and Kaidan to trigger it as far as I know.

Edit: I noticed him when we got back from Eden Prime and woke up and I said he couldnt be blamed for triggering the beacon and then he smiled so shy like *sigh*

I went into ME1 blind. Didn't know there were romances in the game either. I was telling my roommate that I thought that Kaidan guy was pretty cool. He told me he was romanceable and I never looked back. :D

ME2 I spoiled myself a bit. I HAD to know where my two favorite boys were at. Garrus I found was Archangel. I got mad at myself for spoiling that one. It would have been nice to be surprised by that. I knew going in that Kaidan would not be a squad but I didn't see Horizon coming.

For ME3, I know enough right now. I don't want to find out anymore plot spoilers. Though I would like to see more when it comes to armor, combat, guns. etc.

My Shep was gone spoke to him after leaving the Med Bay.  *swoon*

At the time, I didn't know he was a potential LI, but I'd played DA:O, so I was really hoping that was an option with Kaidan.  I had to stop playing and check the wiki to make sure I wasn't getting my hopes up for nothing.

edit: yay! picture bomb.  Red, you should forget to check your posts more often if that's how you make up for it.

When Kaidan gave that smile in the med bay *swoon*, I was like "might have to romance that."

Because odds are if it's a BioWare game, it has romances. I mean, even their MMO has romances!

And I'm really glad they have 'em in there. Talk about breaking a mold for mmos. :)

Need to bid on one of those mp3's Raphael put on ebay. The question though is how much is it worth to me and how much do I want to donate for his charity. Questions, questions!

My Shep definitely started feeling something for him in the med bay right after Eden Prime (that smile gets me, *ahem* I mean my Shep, every time Image IPB).  But, because of fraternization and whatnot, she tried to push aside those feelings and just focus on them being friends.

It wasn't until that conversation where he asks her if she makes it a point to get to know all her crew when she realized that she was falling for him.  I think her dialogue speaks for itself in that conversation ("No...no I don't") - almost like in that instant it hit her that she has feelings for him that go beyond friendship.

just listened to the sbarge audioblog. wow. you know, sbarge has done more to get me hyped for ME3 than all of their "official" marketing combined.

I think "About Horizon" reading was the best from what happened in ME romances. If romance in ME3 is even better... to hell my hesitation, I'm buying game=]

I knew that there will be romances in BioWare games before I played ME (from JE, and my boyfriend played KotOR), but wasn't interested in that aspect - I'm more TES fan, prefer exploration to anything else. First playthrough - and first romance, just to know what's it like - was male Infiltrator / Liara with Tali and Ashley (and later Tali/Liara) in squad. Then I've made femShep which was supposed to stay single and save Ashley on Virmire...

After Eden Prime - oh look, that guy can smile - why don't take him on mission for a change?
Therum - or look, the squishiest squadmate saved my ass several times.
Noveria - extranet fetish sites, hm? Beware the calm and cute ones.
Rachni queen - hello Mr. Alenko and stop speaking my minds! They are mine!
After Noveria - to hell with "staying single" plans.
Feros - yeah, we are thinking about same things., I get it. Wait. so what are you thinking about while Shepard thinks "just kiss me already"? :)
Virmire - oh crap, Virmire. Sorry, Ash.
Citadel lockdown and Ilos... confidential :)

I knew that he was the only romancable male in the game, I watched by bf play the game first and he romance Ashley.

I just wanted him to be kinda like Alistair, oh my did he make me swoon. They did a good job, I can't even romance anyone else. Well Vega may make the cut.

Also I've been meaning to ask, how do you get the line that goes "I like the man it's made of you"

Or something along that line, saw it a FemShep comp video and i've never heard it before..

I'm 99% sure it's a Paragon line ... let me go check this list I've got...

Edit: Found it. It's from the converation before the locker scene. It *is* Paragon.
Kaidan's line is"I don’t think I’ve ever met a woman like you" and the dialogue wheel text is "Back at you".

I swear I always use the paragon lines, but I must have missed that one. I shall make sure I select it :o

For my Shep I played the relationship angle a little earlier...at least in my head. I saw them as already attracted to one another even before Eden Prime. Kaidan calling out to Shepard using her name when she is taken by the beacon instead of using "Commander" kind set the stage for me that he was interested.

The smile after she woke up affirmed it. As for my Shep I think she was already expressing an interest when she talked to him after Eden Prime...asking about whether he was a career man...I mean to me that was an expressed personal interest and then he even asks her essentially the same thing. And even though I know that Shepard's background is public record whatever you may choose...for me...I just saw that him knowing a little something about it might be because he was already interested and was checking up on her.

I guess you could say my Shep was playing the love at first sight angle...he was her soulmate...the one she was meant to be with...lol I sound like such a sap.

Same. I'm more of a action movie/game buff. I'm not happy unless something is blowing up. But I think that is why I'm so smitten with Shepard and Kaidan. There are guns, explosions, tech zombies, gaint robot cthulhus, cool aliens, spaceships, space marines, and this wonderful bittersweet romance wrapped up in all of it. I won't like Mass Effect as much without the romance or only the romance. I want my cake and eat it too.

lol It's his hair isn't it.:DKinda wish they had a special Kaidan smiley with a hair bump on it.

I think that the Kaidan romance is the most realistic(and down to earth) Bioware romance of the series...it's romantic but not mushy. If it were too much like a romance novel I probably wouldn't like it as much. Just my opinion.

So, so true.  It kind of freaked my husband out at first, he was all "but you don't have a romantic bone in your body, why are you suddenly so emo over this virtual guy?"

And I was all "Um..."

Yeah, I do it on the way to recruit Garrus at Dr. Michel's.

I think the romance's appeal is that for once... the chick is saving the galaxy with a man at her side.  I love movies and novels and stories where the tough, competent woman fights alongside an equally tough, competent man who doesn't mind if she outclasses him a time or two because she still needs someone to watch her back.  (In every sense of the phrase.)  It elicits an "us against them" sort of bad-assness that guys have gotten to have all their lives and we girls only get to experience a few times in fiction.  Hell, Sarah Connor and Ellen Ripley ended up losing the men they fell for, simply because Hollywood can't handle the idea of a tough girl keeping her guy.

I played ME years after having played kotor and having loved Carth. I had no idea what I was getting into - I'd purchased it a year earlier, but it sat on my shelf.

Game starts, Joker talks, and I thought "hmm, well if he's a romance option, that's what I'm going with." Then Kaidan spoke, and I almost squealed "IT'S CARTH!" ... and that was that. It was a bioware game, and so I had a good feeling that, if they were using the same VA, his character would be awesome.

Totally agree with this.

And as if on cue since we are watching backsides.
