I've only yet finished playthroughs with a rogue and warrior so I'm really not sure but from what I've seen they react differently in several situations and although they have the same quests and conversation triggers they've always (again, as far as I've been able to verify) responded differently from one another.

Well, yeah, they're very interchangable. They're "different" in that any time Carver would approve, Bethany would disapprove, but they had an interchangable impact on the plot and an identical "personal quest." Not to mention the fact that they (DA2 SPOILERS!) disappeared for two-thirds of the game to save resources that could otherwise be diverted to other characters. I do NOT want to see that happen to Kaidan and Ashley.

Their dialogue is identical, with the exception of "You're in the presence of a legend" for Kaidan, and "You're in the presence of a god" for Ashley, and a single line at the end which I can't remember exactly, but suffice to say that Ash comes off as more xenophobic than Kaidan.

Even their romantic dialogue is EXACTLY THE SAME! "We had something, Shepard. Something real. I loved you! Thinkinging you were dead- I almost- How could you put me through that? Why didn't you try to contact me?"

Ugh. Do not want in ME3. The gender-neutral, vague dialogue worked great for hacked Shepards who transfered a same-sex romanced Kaidan or Ash, but by god, I want them to be distinct characters in ME3.


EDIT: Top Kaidan needs a reassuring hug. Like me.

Hey all! Hope everyone's well.

Horizon + Kaidan, yeah it was pretty harsh. I had no idea it was coming, either. I even reloaded because I thought surely I must have spun the dialogue wheel the wrong way.

Oh, and TIM! Grrrr. Back in his face for real. "You got that behind you now?" (He was right to only contact FemShep thru a hologram...I was ready to wring his neck right then) Het set us up that SoB.

You know those few well placed rumors about Shep being alive and working w/ Cerberus messed w/ Kaidan's head.

LOL..I can imagine poor Anderson. He's got Kaidan on one side pestering him about Shep. And then here comes Shep, so where's Kaidan? Anderson's like, "You know, hey, I don't know. I can't tell ya anyway."

I wonder how its all gonna play when they meet again? And have a moment, that is. I understand alot of FemShep are okay w/ Horizon, and understand where Kaidan was coming from, but my FemShep is a lil hurt. She understands where he was coming from...but sheesh.

I don't know if I'm ready to go flopping back into his arms just yet...well, I'll get ready, but you know what I mean. Then right b4 the SM...ack, it was a lonely moment. She could have used his support some kinda way, even if he wasn't necessarily w/ her on the Normandy.

Anyway, just to indulge in a bit more fantasy, I betcha anything Kaidan was following every move Shep made on her journey's. I bet he knew exactly when she went thru the relay, too. There was some news blurb that mentioned something about activity had been detected in the Omega 4,...the Alliance is looking into it. (i think they said Alliance).

Ugh, I bet he's freaking out over the whole trial and genocide thing, too :/

Through all that armour? Nah. Shepard's got Kaidan pretty well shouldered.

'Sides, I like to think that Shepard is rather gentle when it comes to Kaidan's.... bad places.

It was nice that he set up for Kaidan and Shepard to meet. What wasn't cool was that he almost got Kaidan harvested in the process. =__= I would've holo-punched TIM given the option.

For the next set of #MassEffect3 screenshots, what are you hoping to see most? Ashley in armor? A first look at James Vega? Something else?

Ask for more Kaidan! I requested for Kaidan in a jacket outfit specifically, because apparently what we've seen from Ash so far is her jacket outfit (she'll have her own set of armor). It's only fair that we see something similar for Kaidan, right?

I think we all fear the "horizon" treatment...but I want to put faith in Bioware but not get my hopes up at the same time.

Heck at least he wasn;t wearing the phoenix armour on Horizon eh? That would have been a trigger for my hulk mode.

First of all, hello, SomethingSome and Pax of Doom. Nice to meet you.

Second, Horizon differs in more than starting line. When Ashley first time describes Cerberus, she says something like "I'm not a fan of aliens for myself"; one of her last lines is "I'm an Alliance soldier, it's in my blood" while Kaidan "I'm an Alliance soldier, and always will be".

About "VS SpeCTRe" - I assume for economy's sake it will be nearly "Carver/Bethany scenario" - they'll got the same missions with a few tweaks (both siblings ask to take grandparents' will, but after that Carver gets letters and Bethany gets a portrait). Makes sense - missions are determined by Alliance and Council decisions while tweaks happen because of differences in personalities and background.

Dialogues will be different very likely. All the dialogues that have meaning (not situations like opening of ME2 where all LIs say the same) are always character-specific one way or another.

About impact on the story and degree of perfection... authors definitely discussed how to reintroduce Kaidan and Ashley before ME2 (if you're writig the story, end of arcs should be considered while making their starts. If one of the main characters leaves and should return again, major details of scheme of returning should be made at a same time with "leaving" moment, so the parts of Kaidan/Ashley in ME3 plot were made before ME2), and now... ouch how it will be in English?.. they only adding meat onto bones?

If Watamaniuk says "full time squadmate", I believe him. I don't think ME team would copy from another team something that people already considered wrong. Have some faith in them at least.
Besides, that already happened between ME1 and 2. They left and were unavailable through the whole game, don't you think it's time for VS to shine now? This kind of crazy saying we will get another Deep Roads is slowly making me twitch and, sorry, but almost disgusted with the pessimism. It's contagious.

It's impossible to avoid similarities between Ash and Kaidan when you can only have only one of them. They still have different backgrounds and view on things. But they were kind of created for that role, we can only deal with it.

not sure the talimancers will be all over his tweets ... just recently the question was asked whether or not people would like to see Tali's face being revealed (personally I'd want a hint as to what quarians look like in general, not just Tali ... and a bit more info than some mangled, totured quarian please ...)
