Has anyone got a closer/higher detail pic of that page of kaidan's armour looks about 10 pages back? I want to see the top row more specifically, from a distance he kinda looks like a boyscout, which me no likey. Want to see it close up to either convince myself its not a boyscout look or just get over it quicker, lol. If it is and its his casual outfit i'm gonna be really hardpressed to have a convo with him without sniggering every damn time.

same here(Kaidan live in all my playthroughs)...wish the choice had been between someone other than Ash and Kaidan though....I think I could have let go of some of the other squadmates easier than her..

If I had to choose between Kaidan and anyone, I will always keep Kaidan.  But I also hate that the choice had to be between him and Ash.   While I like all the characters, there are a couple that I would've let go of if it meant keeping both Ash and Kai. 

On a side note, I've been replaying ME1 as a soldier with Kaidan and Garrus as squadmates.  I've never used Garrus before, and I just noticed that he's very useful, lol.  Other than the fact that he keeps dying on me no matter how much I upgrade his armor, I like that he uses a lot of tech to overpower the enemies.  I've always been a Kaidan/Wrex girl but I'm starting to like Kaidan/Garrus.

EDIT: Come on, how could anyone kill off this adorable man?

I was re-reading the text from the ME art book, so if they say that they went back to Kaidans face mesh from ME1, does that mean his design in ME2 was new/different and that's why he looked off compared to the new screens that make him more "Kaidan"?

Does that make sense, my writing today is just MEH

When it comes to computer-y/tech stuff, I am so clueless so I really don't understand the whole face mesh thing.  But when I first saw his "new" design, I was a little taken aback at how much they had changed Kaidan's features. It looked like him but...not, if that makes sense.  Now, looking at my profile avatar, he looks like the same Kaidan from ME1 and 2, only a bit more rugged.  I love that five o'clock shadow he's got going on there.

I have no doubt they (being BW) purposefully made it a difficult choice.  I remember replaying a few times trying to figure out how to save both to no avail.  To this day I haven't saved Ash.  The only way I think I can save Ash is through the comic in ME2.

Hey, guys. I found some interesting commentary on Kaidan's new swag:

"Hey, who wants to nerd about character design! Who wants to nerd out about character design REAL HARD? Me! I do!

So, Kaidan’s new look. I, like the rest of this high-strung ME playing corner of the internet, have some beef. Lemme tell you about it.

The ironic part about this is while trying to make him “more memorable”, they made him look like every generic male, human combatant. I think they were onto something with the ones in the first row, however, even though the hair is kind of… what’s that doing. Anway, they’re a bit less bulky, which makes sense because to be frank Kaidan’s strength was never in, er, strength. That’s not going to change no matter how much combat he’s seen since he’s not moving cars or punching out people with his hands, he’s doing it with his mind. And his science. He’s a magical battle techie.

The more noticably sloped shoulders also give him a different silhouette than the series’ men, who pretty much all carry their shoulders roughly parallel to the ground. That relaxed carriage is not a stereotypical military posture, but given the fact that K. doesn’t seem all that broken up with sleeping with his superiors I’m just going to assume he’s not a stereotypical military man. Or maybe that’s actually fairly standard and I have a stodgy view of the future marine corps, I don’t know.

It also has yellow accents, and only Jacob’s loyalty uniform has any yellow in it at all. That’s enough to distinguish him a little, although having the shoulder guards and arms be yellow and the rest be navy brings to mind unfortunate visual comparisons with a certain yellow and lederhosen wearing protagonist from FFX.

But the final design does fit in with the aesthetic that has developed over the six(?) years the series has been in development. The problem is, it fits in too well. Well enough to be completely unremarkable in form, color, impression; indistinguishable from any other joe schmo in futuristic armor. There’s no innovation, only imitation. It could be an unusually well thought out fan design, like “this is my fan art of what Kaidan would look like as a Soldier-class merc”.

Speaking of, I’ve seen fanart of characters as different sexes, races… Seems like different classes is the final frontineer.

Anyway.

Oh my gosh, I thought the same thing! The first time I saw Virmire, it was watching my brother's renegade playthrough.  He killed off Kaidan, and I was like, "Noooooo!!!  That's why you need to be paragon!  You can save people!!".  Then, after a couple of re-loads, we realized that one has to die.  So he reloaded his last save and saved Kaidan.

Actually, I'm not bothered they made him look "just like every other male."  That was one of the things I liked about him, that he didn't stand out and wasn't flashy.  If he had a different model (ala Anders in DA2), then he WOULD stand out and that would counter to his normal character.  Also, I thought he DID have the same model as maleShep in ME1....

If any of that makes sense.  I could just not have had enough coffee yet.

[Kaidan Fan]

I've never been able to leave Kaidan on Virmire. Never even tried. Although I did do the comic for the first time last night so I could do a ME2 pt w/o romancing Kaidan. When the choice came up...I picked to romance Kaidan...WTF? lol

I guess if it ever comes down to picking Kaidan or someone else, he can feel safe with me

Interesting.   I like his armor, personally, but I see the point.

I think that Kaidan's look is kind of "boring" because they just didn't know what to do with him.  They already have the role of Buff Manly Man taken with Vega, and that's already established as not being Kaidan's thing.  But they can't make him too "weak" looking, thus no more light armor (which I will miss on him, personally).  Then there's the problem of him (and Ashley) still being tied to the Alliance, so completely unique and individual outfits are out of the question.

I don't know.  There's got to be a happy medium between "bland and inoffensive" and "XTREEM and EDGY" when it comes to human male characters.  I think they did a good job with both Kaidan and Jacob, but obviously popular opinion is mixed when it comes to both of them.  I think the art design reflects that the team knows that there is a balance to be maintained...and maybe they went a bit too conservative.

I like Kaidan's armor, too. I really want to see what they have for his casual outfit.

Did anyone notice that he's carrying an assault rifle? Is he going to be able to use weapons other than pistols? I think I read somewhere that all characters will be able to use any weapons. Has this been confirmed?

This right here...I tried Garrus and I couldn't keep him alive no matter what...finally gave up....my ultimate squad was Kaidan and Liara....used Ash and Wrex some as well...lol Wrex's big ole head kept getting in my shot though....I was constantly yelling at the monitor..."Get out of the way Wrex!"

From my understanding of it(which is very little) the mesh is the structure of the face itself(its underlying shape)...a texture would be the "skin" laid over it. When I first saw the new ME3 look the nose looked thinner to me...not that it really matters...they're trying to age him some...features change as they get older...still looks like Kaidan to me. :DAnd I like looking.

my a-team was wrex and kaidan. so, i was s.o.s. in Me2. lol.

garrus--oh, garrus. you crazy kid.

i remember one time in me2, i had grunt w/ me. i was popping off shots from behind sum crate. i look up and grunt is huddled all next to me. at first i was ticked. i was thinking, "get outta here and wreak sum damage!"

but he wouldn't move. he kept flinching, too--lol. yeah.

i looked around and realized sum sneaky merc had crept up behind me and sum other crate..and was trying to shoot me in the back! Grunt was taking the hits for me.

Aww. of course, when i noticed this i jumped up and went after that friggin' sneaky merc. as soon as i did, grunt hopped out and went back to raising hell.

i'm not saying garrus and his kamikaze impulses were like that. it just reminded me. it's cute the way they try and protect you. garrus tho, ---he'll get right in front of you and won't move. not until he decides to run full blast into enemy fire....

Well... as the token Garrus Fangirl here...   I can tell you that Garrus is squishy on the lower levels.  His beginning armor sucks and his stats are abysmal.  He also forgets he's supposed to snipe and attempt to tank. (Both his and Kaidan's AI seem to have PROTECT SHEPARD as priorities.)  If you take away his assault rifle and give him the best sniper rifle you can find, he'll stop trying to tank and leave the heavy lifting up to Shepard and Kaidan (who, once Barrier is avaible to be at least mid-level, can tank just as well as Shepard).  When Garrus levels higher, Colossus armor or higher is best (Phantom, if you can find it -- it doesn't always spawn, unfortunately).  And if you level up his armor skills and "Turian Agent" skills along with his sniper skills, he'll live longer.
