I think that Kaidan's look is kind of "boring" because they just didn't know what to do with him.  They already have the role of Buff Manly Man taken with Vega, and that's already established as not being Kaidan's thing.  But they can't make him too "weak" looking, thus no more light armor (which I will miss on him, personally).  Then there's the problem of him (and Ashley) still being tied to the Alliance, so completely unique and individual outfits are out of the question.

I don't know.  There's got to be a happy medium between "bland and inoffensive" and "XTREEM and EDGY" when it comes to human male characters.  I think they did a good job with both Kaidan and Jacob, but obviously popular opinion is mixed when it comes to both of them.  I think the art design reflects that the team knows that there is a balance to be maintained...and maybe they went a bit too conservative. 

I like his armor as well...but I think their choice kinda fits his character well...being a career military man I wouldn't think his look should vary too much from the rest of the Alliance.

@Sialater the protect Shepard thing got old...I was yelling at the monitor for that as well...I think I yelled quite a bit actually. I know that with Kaidan he was more protective with different squaddies than with others...I believe he actually hung back if I took Wrex...but then Wrex would run forward and I was back to his head being in the way again...and I was yelling again.

Heh, I didn't figure it out till DA:O and watching Zevran's AI.  So, I started using it to my advantage.  They go after whatever will harm Shepard the most.  So that's who I hit hardest, first.  They started living longer and kept lesser things off my back.  

The AIs were telling me how to play.

2 1/2 weeks left of this month, and then 2 months and 6 days until ME 3 comes out. I can't wait. I want to play it so bad. I still have to finish Star Wars again.

Well... as the token Garrus Fangirl here...   I can tell you that Garrus is squishy on the lower levels.  His beginning armor sucks and his stats are abysmal.  He also forgets he's supposed to snipe and attempt to tank. (Both his and Kaidan's AI seem to have PROTECT SHEPARD as priorities.)  If you take away his assault rifle and give him the best sniper rifle you can find, he'll stop trying to tank and leave the heavy lifting up to Shepard and Kaidan (who, once Barrier is avaible to be at least mid-level, can tank just as well as Shepard).  When Garrus levels higher, Colossus armor or higher is best (Phantom, if you can find it -- it doesn't always spawn, unfortunately).  And if you level up his armor skills and "Turian Agent" skills along with his sniper skills, he'll live longer.  

Ah, this is it, then. I have him using his assault rifle, and he just charges in there.  I just finished Feros last night, and we were down in the lower tunnels going into that room where the three krogan are with the geth transmitter.  Garrus just Leeroy Jenkins-ed it in there.  The next thing I know his name is in red with an "X" next to it, lol.  Definitely buying him the Spectre sniper and just have him use that.

I love the way Kaidan protects Shepard.  He saves me every time.  That same mission, a krogan was charging me and Kaidan totally lifted him up in the air before he got to me.  Me hero!

In regards to armor, I keep freakin' finding Phoenix armor everywhere!  Like, I don't find any other kind of armor, just Phoenix.   Is this happening spontaneously or are they deliberately messing with me?  **goes off to ponder**

The amount of phoenix armor you find while doing the Cerberus Missions is the best.

Huh, I've never noticed that either... Probably because I'm the one playing the tank who rushes headfirst into battle, leaving everyone else to watch cluelessly and then follow.

Ugggh, Ashley / Garrus playthrough is hell. Not only I got used to that "dark haired human shaped person is caster" - Kaidan, Sab... sorry, Ash, nevermind; but Garrus keeps popping up between me and husks / thorian creepers / Dr. Saleon's zombies - thanks, Garrus, I appreciate the effort, but FREAKING RUN!!!

It was worse only once - ME2, Infiltrator with Widow, Miranda as LI. Said Miranda in loyalty costume (shields depleted, as I recall) was sitting behind the crates right before Shepard and wasn't going to do anything...

...Until Shepard pulled the trigger - Miranda is starting to stand up and takes shot apparently right through sideview of "airbags".

Kaidan and Garrus are my go-to squad for ME.  The Colossus armor is baller.  Mercenary isn't too bad either.  Garrus can drop evil henchmen like it's going out of style.

Just for kicks I played one mission in ME2 as an infiltrator (w/Widow) with Garrus and Thane.  Bad guys didn't know who be shooting at em.  (Note: this tactic does NOT work with melee creatures like varrens)

lol sounds like me. That is why I have always played a solider.  I just run in and hope I don't die... sometimes it doesn't always work out that well.

Actually, I'm not bothered they made him look "just like every other male."  That was one of the things I liked about him, that he didn't stand out and wasn't flashy.  If he had a different model (ala Anders in DA2), then he WOULD stand out and that would counter to his normal character.  Also, I thought he DID have the same model as maleShep in ME1....

Anders had a dfferent body model? I thought he had a regular human male body. Haven't been paying all that much attention to the DA2 body models though~

I personaly don't have as much problems with Kaidan's bulkier look. For me, that's about the same level of bulkiness many fanartists have always used (at least it appears to me like that), though I personally prefer well toned and slim to overly bulky (sorry, Vega, I still u though). But it's not that much of a difference to me. 
I like his SpeCTRe armour design, I only kind of mourn that they didn't stick with the .... well the hip-portion (oh jeebus, I hope you know what I mean) of the ME1/ME2 armours because it made his (and every other male's) butt look SPECTACULAR.

Right. Apart from that, I like it. Could have been done more with it, I think, but I won't complain. 

Frankly, I like his "redesign" (or design progress, whatevs) better than Ash's. Alas, this isn't the Williams thread so I'll shut up about it. 

Also, am I the only one here who thinks that the outfit with the beret IS is casual clothing? If nothing else, then simply for the fact that I don't think we'll get two different armor versions, if no other character does (except for minor colouring changes). Also, it doesn't look like an armor to me. More like a uniform with a little oversized pauldrons.

I've always thought that Kaidan's light armor was more the result of gameplay reasons than personal preferences. With the amount of mental barriers he builds over himself being physically protected is kinda expected.

Another thing I love about Kaidan and what new armor accentuates far better than old is his sensibility. It's sensible to wear heavier armor while 1) there are enemies with flamethrowers, acidic attacks and just plain old melee attacks and 2) it doesn't disturb your function as tech / biotic. Check and check. Kaidan, you make me proud - finally armour-sensible squadmate.

About "beret outfit is casual" - no, I don't think so. At least part below shoulders look rather armor-like.

Wow, it looks like the auctions were pretty successful.  I think this was a great idea to raise some money for GreenWish.

Also, I am super-excited to hear about new surprises on the way.  This will keep me going, as apparently there will be no info on the demo until next year.
