Well, actually... When you look at the numbers, it's pretty significant. Thousands of people played Mass Effect, and if Ashley is saved sixty percent of the time, that's pretty staggering. If this were a presidential election, we'd be calling it a landslide.

Does Kaidan deserve it? No. Should he have less content in ME3 because of it? No. Is Kaidan's fanbase a substantial force to be reckoned with? Abso-freakin-lutely! But I wouldn't completely discount Ash's 60% survival rate, because that's downright impressive.

The polls here only maybe show what people that come here like. They show things like femShep being played more than maleShep. But the data Bioware collected shows only 20% play femShep.

It's not just that Ashley is probably saved more often by player choice. Ashley is also going to be alive in a lot more saves just because she's alive on the ME2 default for maleShep. A lot people didn't import, and most people play maleShep.

At the same time ME1 sold about 3 million copies, which means Kaidan was saved by over a million people. That's also a huge number.

Since when only FemSheps save Kaidan though? ManShep has 2 girls to romance and Liara is a hugely popular LI. Many straight guys don't save Ashley because they already have Liara, many consider Ashley xenophobic etc.

Only 50% of new games in ME2 were imports. With the high number of MaleSheps and Kaidan being dead in default MaleShep games, that probably didn't help.

I've never saved Ashley, male or female Shepard. Kaidan isn't just attractive, he is way more useful in battle.

I think you misunderstood erilben. What s/he was trying to say was that the polls on this forum in no way reflect how the average players decide.

Frankly, I agree, mostly because in my experience squadmates' accuracy sucks, even when they do actually manage to not shoot at a wall or your back (which is pretty rare )  So Kaidan's biotic and tech powers are infinitely more useful in battle than Ash's guns.  And I say this despite the fact that I love Ash just as much as Kaidan.

Kaidan's a great match for Vanguards and Soldiers and considering these classes are played by like 70% or more of all gamers, it's another reason why many guys will save Kaidan rather than Ash.

I've saved Ashley in 3 of my 11 imported playthroughs, mostly to shake things up, but Kaidan is way more useful to me.  I use him mostly for his tech powers, so his Electronics, Decryption, and First Aid are extremely valuable to me.  He can be in charge of the boring stuff like opening things and healing so Shepard can focus on being a destructive force of nature.

I've saved Ashley only once in seven playthroughs and that was one with FemShep indeed mostly to see how things would be different in the sequel.
However I've never played either a Soldier or a Vanguard since those have never held any real appeal to me compared to what else is available but despite that Kaidan was always very useful in my games.

What would be more interesting is if BioWare could somehow separate the data collected, so they could see how many women save Kaidan (and how many women save Ashley) And then do the same with male gamers.

Because the 60/40 split on people saving Kaidan put next to the 80/20 male/female gamer % might look a bit better for Kaidan...........

Tbh, I really miss Ash because I never play soldier and she is the best soldier class in ME for me, but I am never leaving Kaidan behind........ n'huh......

It's not categorized as a Kaidan story on fanfiction.net, but it is awesome and I love sinvraal's characterization of the squadmates and everybody should be reading this.
