So, a lot of people have speculated on exactly what Kaidan's been up to while he wasn't with Shepard. I think I found a hidden hint about his activities during the latter half of ME2 anyway.
If you go to the Citadel and listen to Emily Wong on Citadel News Net, sometimes you will hear a news story about how the Batarians are developing this orbital mirror system they claim is for terraforming, but that the Turians believe could be used as a weapon of mass destruction. If you get this story pre-Horizon, it ends there. But if you get this story AFTER Horizon, she goes on to state that a Spectre has been dispatched to intervene (or something to that effect).
Coincidence?

Whoa, I've never gotten that story with the spectre bit in it before. Very intersting.... I like that theory!

Interesting....there's a possible theory afoot!

Unrelated question I thought you folk might be able to answer: Exactly how long did Shep know Alenko (and the Normandy crew) prior to ME1? My first time through, I assumed they'd all served together for a significant amount of time, but later, it seems more that the crew was cobbled together:
- Shepard doesn't seem to know much about Joker's personal history
- Conversely, Kaidan seems friendly with Joker
- Dr Chakwas claims she has never served with Kaidan before
- Shepard can ask if Kaidan is a careerman
- Shepard was slated for transfer to the Fifth Fleet under Mikhailovich's command
...all of which gives the impression that either Shepard was a new XO (and Chakwas a new medical chief), or the Normandy crew is young and/or specially selected for the Eden Prime mission.

1 - He could be. Maybe it's his first mission. He might have got the offer after outing Shepard for working with Cerberus.
2 - As for ME1, I was under the impression that Anderson had hand-picked an elite team for the Normandy, to secure that Prothean beacon. I agree that Kaidan and Joker seem to have served together previously, but that Shepard had not worked with anyone else on the crew much before being assigned to the Normandy at the start of ME1.

They were told that it's ship's shakedown run, I always assumed they'd been onboard a very short time. The fact that it's fully staffed is mentioned as a surprise along with the seniority of the crew and AndersonRandom Jerkface wrote...

Yeah, both those and the Dragon Age ones are pretty hideous IMO. But I am a designer so I am picky. I just want a simple blue hoodie with an Alliance logo on it or something similar. But I can just make that myself and save lots of money!

Shepard looks like completely new addition to crew with his personal questions to everyone - if they would served together previously, Shepard had probably already knew everyone. On another hand, Dr. Chakwas mentions that "I thought Alenko's biotic display broke Jenkins' back" - so she probably was stationed with both for some time. Plus, everyone grieves loss of Jenkins, so they got to knew him.Random Jerkface wrote...

My headcanon says that crew was gathered anew by Anderson, but they trained some time together before shakedown run. Shepard is probably the newest addition who arrived straight before departure.

Ooo interesting thank you! Can't wait till March to find out what my favourite spectre (after myself
) has been up to!
Yeah, I think that's a reference to Kaidan, too. I caught that before. I remember standing there like, wait....what?
I luv those news things. I listen every chance. They give out some good info.
Oh, as far as t-shirts...an omni blade t-shirt? srsly? the friggin' omniblade gets a t-shirt?
I feel like, okay, you know what...I'll keep my money in my pocket then. I'd love to get some swag, but if they don't want my money that bad--I'll keep it.

Yeah the omni-blade one is lame, though Mordin's made me laugh and I do like the Legion design.

But...I don't think that's gonna happen. I wonder if we'll even get to see the Lair in ME3? Or by the time we catch up w/Liara---she's already on the run and ready to join us?

Just like all of you, I can't wait for ME3. But at least my wait won't be that long like many of you because I barely got into the Mass Effect universe right after Christmas. My bf gave me both games as gifts. I'm almost done with ME2 but I gotta say that Horizon hurt me eventhough I spoiled it by reading the forums
This time around I'm going to avoid been spoiled (I hope) for ME3 and my Kaidan love. I know some things that have been mentioned here but nothing major...Major hehe
It's nice to see so many Kaidan supporters
I can't wait for some more of this <3

You probably forgot this already - this news date back to October or so.ZombieGeisha wrote...
Wasnt there a tweet from Mac Walkters about Kaidan/Ashley being up to something like Liara? Perhaps thats it. How have I never heard that before? I usually listen to the news all the time.
And about forgetting details and ME again - I somehow managed to forgot that Kaidan is more paragon-ish than Liara. Seeing how human says that "this isn't about humanity, Sovereign is a threat to all races" and asari suggests sacrificing Council is bizzare.

I was looking at my bf's game informer yesterday and he was warning me not to read it. Somehow I managed to read some things without ruining anything that I didn't know already. But as soon as I saw Kaidan's name mentioned, I closed the magazine and threw it on the floor. I was very proud of myself for that self control that I lack most of the time.
Respect, I couldn't do this.

I was under the impression that the Normandy crew was all new since it was the ship's first run. It seemed like Chakwas, Joker, Kaidan, and Jenkins all new each other (whether from a different tour togther, or just running into each other over the years I don't know), and that Pressly and Anderson went back a bit, but other than that everyone was pretty new.

Yes, welcome Mayra! Welcome to the strangely intoxicating world of Mass Effect.
I've done pretty good w/Spoilers. I only know 2 big things that are supposed to happen w/Kaidan. But no actual dialogue, or feel of it all. As far as rest of game, I've done well to keep away.
Well, except for knowing about 1 possible DLC char......

@t-shirt designs - I quite like the omni-blade one, but then I think I just love the idea of the omni-blade because I play as engie, so according to the few spoilers I've read, it will be on fire
@susanwb - that is a very interesting theory. I suppose it would keep him busy.
@how long Shep knew him - it always seems to me like they've just met maybe a week ago or such. So they know each other's names and such, but nothing much more than that. Kaidan and Joker seem to know each other though, perhaps they served together sometime before? And I think in ME2 Chakwas says something about staying with Joker because she's used to treating him and someone new might mess it up or something? I forget exactly what she said, *I think it's in the Serrice Ice Brandy convo... not sure* but that implies to me they've known each other for a while... which could also just be the 2 years Shep was dead so IDK.
@RandomJerkface - do you mean the Meyers-Briggs personality thing? That... actually does sound quite like him, really.
@spoilers - aaaahhh I'm avoiding spoilers like the plague
@Mayrabgood - WELCOME TO THE THREAD *I'm still practically a newbie myself, as I've posted like twice, but still, WELCOME*

Me too. I didn't read any dialogs and I have no idea what will happen with cerberus etc. But I know some Kaidan-spoilers. I couldn't resist.
