On the comment of female gamers, I work at a video game selling store. There are a few of us. But I do hate the girls who come in acting like they are hot shiz cause they are gamers. I just give them blank looks. Like, really? I work here. You're not THAT special. I also hate the girls who brag about being a girl gamer. Like it's a badge of honor. Usually they suck at gaming and play only one thing.

Fact of the matter we girl gamers exist and we girl gamers do love mass effect. And a lot love kaidan because of that. But they don't give us near anything. Everything is very male oriented. I just would like something, anything, to know that they do in fact care about this portion of their audience.

Maybe a Cinematic Kaidan trailer :D???!?!?!?!?

THIS. A girl who recently dropped out of my Sixth Form was like this, except she was all into the whole feigning to like games to  seem "nerdy" and wear those big lens-less glasses. I don't suspect people like that have ever had those food-less, water-less Saturdays/days off where you play a certain game all day and night.  Suffice to say she rather annoyed me.

I think there are some game companies that are better than others in promoting female characters in their advertising. Some just think if they throw some boobs into a trailer it counts as positive female promotion. Oh dear.

I was brought up gaming too, with a big brother and gaming sister. I had a fairy wand and a lightsaber! :P Perhaps if Mass Effect had been out and in the househould, mini Shepard armour would have been needed.

People like that bother the heck outta me! It's not just girls, either, I've met a lot of guys who claim to love video games. When I ask them further what they like to play, I'll get answers like "Minecraft" or "Sims". It's one of those 'what the heck? That's not gaming!' moments. Not that those are bad games, it's just...really a stretch to consider yourself a hardcore gamer when that's all you play.

Bioware's games really appeal to both genders, and I think that's because of the effort they put into creating their characters. I never understand how so many guys in my classes love things like Skyrim, Call of Duty, etc. Sure, they may have fun gameplay, but there's nothing there to emotionally draw you back in.

Hello, Aoibheann (that's pretty impressive account name ). It's always good to see new people here.

Oh, about strange sellers in game shops - luckily one of our local shifts finally recognises me as person not interested in Sims / puzzles. Two more shifts to go! But one of them evidenced me buying of Warhammer Online and my boyfriend buying plush toy, so they totally convinced we're tricking them, so...

I'm middle aged. I don't go in game shops too often (usually shop online) but when I do, I usually get treated with respect. Or maybe that's just the expression on my face.

Thanks for the welcomes :) ... and actually it's pronounced Even lol....to be honest it's my renfaire name, not only do i like to game, i like to dress up and play irl ;) .

As far as romances I plan on making a Shepard for Garrus and Thane too...though ME3 is going to be hard. I've thought about making 2 that start with Kaidan and the one goes Garrus and the other to Thane and seeing how that plays out in 3.

It might depend on where you live and in which demographic you are. I live in the north of Canada where western cowboy culture is still very prevalent, boys are meat eating and potatoes type who work in the oil field and girls stay at home to raise the kids. That's not everyone (not me and my hubby) but that's the general culture and so the mindset is still sort of 10-15 years behind more evolved centers.
And women my age, in their 30's, tend to not game around here either.. ^_^

Well, i'm Polish and i live in a medium-sized Polish city, so believe me, it's not the most tolerant place in the world either (btw. even using the word "tolerant" in this context sounds just ridiculous, i mean, what the hell it is to TOLERATE in there :pinched:), i've always thought that the mentality of people here is at least 20 years behind from the rest of the world - let's just say that when my friend came to visit her old hometown with her husband who happens to be black and a muslim (yeah. really. that can still be an issue >_>) we couldn't go to any other restaurant that weren't in the very city centre as her mom was too afraid that someone would try to harm us x_x Yet i've never been treated differently because i'm a girl, def not as gaming is concerned, lol, i guess that a fascinating matter for some sociological reaserchers x) Oh well, the world is full of stupid people, can't really help that, i'm just thankful for having this opportunity to meet you all and share the experience, so far you're my absolutely favourite bunch in this place
some of you have even made me read fanfics for the first time in my life (and love it!)

I don't get funny looks in gamestores. I happen to creep the heck out of my female classmates though. Whenevere I start talking about games they go "What?", after I explain there's a really annoyed and bored "Ah..." sound coming out of them, then they turn their attention elsewhere and pretend the (non)talk never happened. Male gamers ridicule at the moment because I didn't get into skyrim.

The only one who understands is my brother Q_Q

I find it amusing that were so desperate for news or pics that some of us are nosing around for a new pic of kaidans leg. I want to do a 'wheres wally' type picture now but with spotting kaidan's limbs instead! Sadly i'm not great at drawing...

I mostly get the blank stares and raised eyebrows from other parents (mostly the mothers) in the area - I'm a geek, so is my husband, and my son stole the controller for Lego Star Wars before his 2nd birthday, he's now 5 and has completed Portal and Portal2 many times over... We're a family full of technology geekery but whenever I meet up with other mothers I just kinda nod and smile as they use that wonderful line "she does things with computers and the Internet!" to describe what I do for a living (no I will not fix your computer!)

Meh, I'm never growing up, I'm having too much fun :) I sometimes jog home after walking my son to school wearing my big walking boots and heavy winter coat imagining I'm Shepard running through the citadel in her armor....

Bioware, we're so desperate that we're drooling over pictures of just a leg! Throw us a bone here! :crying:
At least we've moved on from talking about knitting... I think that was the point where we were all about to go insane.

I do play Call of Duty games and they do have a story and backround. It's not a very long story but it's there. I always play the singleplayer part first before I play multplayer. So I started to play the CoD games with Modern Warfare 2 and there is this soldier named Cpt John "Soap" McTavish and I really liked the character. In November MW 3 came out and I was all happy to see "Soap" again, I get to playing and he dies ...  It really upset me, heh. So maybe it is just me but I did get somewhat emotionally involved. Not nearly as much as with Mass Effect of course, no one can replace Kaidan ;)

Just my 2 cents

Sorry, I hope I didn't offend you =] I was just using it as an example of a game that not many people actually pick up and play for the story. I've only played MW2, so I guess my opinion isn't quite that valid  I'm not trying to put down people who play it, it just never pulled me in as far as the story goes compared to other games.

Again, I'm sorry if I offended you

Yeah what I meant about hot shiz wasn't that I give every gamer girl dirty looks. No, I give every gamer girl dirty looks when they act like being a gamer makes them gods gift to men. There are several gaming girls that I completely respect that come in there.

But if you come in there, talk to me, a fellow gamer girl, saying things like, "Yeah well i'm a gamer you know. I know about this stuff. I'm like super awesome at call of duty. Cause I'ma gamer chick. I have a 360. And I played retro ps2. I'm sooooo hardcore."

Me: "Oh what's your favorite PS2 game?"
Her: "Well, urm, Grand theft auto, of course. It's like the only good game on PS2 It's the only one I play."
Me: "Oh you don't play anything else then? There are some good games on the PS2."
Her: "well, as a hardcore gamer, I would know, that GTA and Call of Duty are the only games worth playing."
Me: "Did you like GTA IV then? On the 360"
Her: "That's funny, they don't have a GTA for the 360"
Me: *points it out on the wall*
Her: Well I haven't heard anything about it, I'm a hardcore gamer, I would have heard something about it. So it must suck.
Me: ... Alright o.O?
Her: I'm soooo hardcore though, like i can beat any guy. And they are soooo jealous of it.Which they never leave me alone because of it.
Me: Oh that's... cool? I guess i'm decent at games but I still get my behind handed to me often.
Her: Yeah well that's cause you're not hardcore enough. You're not really a gamer are you? You just work here.
Me: Yes. yes that is is exactly.

I hear you. I live in small town Wisconsin, and lemme tell ya, a married woman w/ a pile of children is NOT supposed to play more video games than her kids....or at all, really. :o:blink::D:lol: The Gamestop guys are awesome to me though, even though I can tell they find me some kind of enigma. Ah well, my older son's friends hero worship me, and think I'm the coolest mom ever, so it's not all bad. I just keep my gaming habits mostly private and don't discuss it with women friends who are my age and situation. Frankly, they are the most judgemental people EVER about gaming. <_< It's why I'm so glad to have all you guys to be geeky with. I love my BSN friends.

So....I watched the episode from last night. It was nice to finally hear who is voicing Vega, even though I'm not really familiar with the actor. *shrug* From the little snippet they showed, it sounds like he will do a great job. Naturally, no Kaidan, and that isn't a surprise at all. :crying: Still have hopes for the femshep trailer. We've been promised it and I know they will deliver, just waiting for it is a killer. I wouldn't be surprised if they released the trailer after the demo comes out but before the game comes out. We shall see! We are in the home stretch now, so more Kaidan is imminent.

No no, not offended at all. It takes bit more to offend me, heh. I just wanted to say that there is a story and it's not to bad if you actually play it. Trust me I know a few people who never bothered with it, they jump right to the Multiplayer. Okay, sorry for being off topic, I stop now :bandit:

Yeah, it's not actually new anyways.  It's from the CE unboxing video.  Boo.

So, game store employees...  I've been in retail for the past 4 years and there are always gonna be people who suck at their jobs.  I've worked with some of them.  I've had great relationships with my past 2 gamestops.  Of course, I work in the same center so I see them regularly even when I'm not shopping.  You just have to find the 2 or 3 people who know what they're doing.  And it took a couple of visits for them to remember who I was and that I'm shopping for me, but now they know what games I like, let me know about new stuff coming up, and recommend games I'll like based on what they know that I play (they were shocked and outraged that I didn't preorder Skyrim, but I finally broke down and bought it with some christmas money).  We've totally been chatting about the ME3 release recently!
