Hi all - I'm a total newbie.  Well, to posting anyway - I've been lurking the forums for...wow...let's just say a long time and leave it at that!  

Today I got brave and decided to at least drop in and say Hi.  I love this forum (as I am totally head over heels for Kaidan), so thanks to all of you for being fun and artsy and stuff! 

Ok, I'll slide back into lurkdom now, just wanted you guys to know how glad I am that there are other Kaidan-crazed fans out there!

Lots of games do autosaves before any big conversation just so you don't have to fight a boss again if you make the wrong dialogue choice. I'm pretty sure that happens a lot in ME1/ME2....just not before the talk with the VS. It advances my theory that they wanted you to move on from the VS and not dwell.

joker winds me up too. i can't help thinking "what if?" what if shep had let joker die, or he hadn't been such a stubborn ass in the first place, and shep had lived?

my fantasy: shep and sweet kai cling to each other, looking through the life-pod's solitary window as they watch the normandy blow up before them. "I'm glad I wasn't still on board," shep says. "that would have been fatal."

an alliance rescue team find the couple after a few days, during which time they had nothing to do but play tinddlywinks. and much as they enjoyed playing tinddlywinks with each other, 3 whole days of it had drained their reserves. so they were quite glad that the alliance ship found them, even though there were regs against playing tiddlywinks; but they would merely continue in private - it is after all a very addictive game.

as they arrive back in citadel space, newly appointed counsillor anderson comes to make sure that his protege and her eyecandy are both all right. shep tells anderson "the ship that attacked us matches collector ship profiles. you need to send the fleet after them and destroy those fiends!"

anderson agrees.

he then asks shep if she wants to lead the fleet against the collectors. she declines, with the explanation "kaidan asked me to marry him, and i accepted. we are leaving the alliance and going to a colony, where we can settle down. we thought hoorizon souded a nice place to go."

the end.



on a side note, albeit a highly important one, would they be mr and mrs shepard or alenko?

Well...it has less to do with self control and more to do with my fear of totally embarrassing myself.  I'm a total nerd really (which is not a bad thing, just means I sometimes gush over things and then end up embarrassed)!

I do have a Kaidan related question (which you've all probably discussed and I missed, so apologies if I'm re-hashing old ground).  I've been re-playing ME 1 (in preparation - can not wait for Mar 6!) and I came across Kaidan's line about his dad being proud when he joined the Marines...eventually.  What is your guess on what the story is there?  Kaidan's dad didn't like the Marines, is a pacifist, was freaked out over his son being biotic, was embarrased by the incident at BaAT?  For some reason I sort of missed this line the first few dozen playthroughs. Guesses?

the autosave takes me to post-kaidan on the normandy -that's not a problem although it did crash soon after reloading

I've actually wondered about that eventually line too.  Pretty loaded.  I think that Kaidan may not have been the most model citizen in the time between Jump Zero and when he enlisted.  Not like a criminal mastermind or anything, but I bet he went off the grid for a little while after what happened with Vyrnus.  I suspect his dad was very proud when he joined the Marines, after all didn't Papa Alenko serve, too?  But maybe that Kaidan took his time getting there.  I imagine he was a bartender at some dive for a while before he found purpose to his life and accepted, even encouraged the biotic potential that had caused him so much trouble previously.  (As an aside, this is also one of the reasons that I think Kaidan is so loyal to the Alliance - in a way, it saved him!)

Oh, wonderful - recent blackout erased my ME2 profile. At least damned thing didn't erase itself for no reason like it was in previous time. And where the hell I've put my BioWare folder backup?

About Kaidan's dad - I "adopted" idea that it was caused by Conatix actions on alienating families from biotics. As I recall, this was mentioned in Ascension as Hendel Mitra's backstory.

And... on side note. My canon Shepard is totally becoming Alyson "Al-Al" Alenko. Not intentional (I planned this Shepard to be single), and I've giggled at this all the time from ME1

Let me look on the wiki.... Yes his dad did serve in the Alliance, he's retired in Vancouver.

That's right!! They convinced the kid's families that they needed special treatment because they were too dangerous to be left out with normal people.

It's established that Kaidan's father was military.

It's also established that Conatix intentionally drove a wedge between biotics and their families, to get the families to give up total control over the kids to the company.  For some families, they remain permanently separated, and the public still believes a lot of the lies Conatix spread about biotics.

So... I figure that estrangement over the biotics is as likely a guess as any.

And really all this ramble is to promote JaerWolfe's awesome fic that deals with this particular plot thread. 




Anyhow.  Lighting is awkward, but I enjoy the scenary.

As in, "dad was proud when I finally enlisted" (because it took him 4 or so years, no?) and not necessarily "at first dad wasn't proud but then he changed his mind". But yea, could be both I guess. And the dad theory is more interesting anyway.

But wasn't Kaidan's dad in the Alliance military? So I don't think he hates the military. I think it was because of the whole Vyrnus thing. I think after that incident Kaidan closed in on himself. He was confused and alone and didn't know what to do and then decided that the best use for his abilities was to join the military. Maybe dad was proud because he finally decided to do something with himself instead of withdrawing from life.

I wish they would make a comic just for us Kaidan fans, showcasing what he was up to during those missing years or maybe even show us his backstory a little. This would definately hold me over until the March 6th!

It seems either Anderson or udina also considers Kaidan eye candy since they have his phot on their desk even if it's Ashley who dies.
