Let's see I like Kaidan cause he's level-headed, kind, and openminded. He doesn't need to be fixed, he's got things worked out from his past. He has morals that he sticks to and even when someone he loves asks him to do something, he refuses to abandon those morals. He's devastated by Shepard's death, but he doesn't let her death destroy his life. He becomes a Spectre and rises in rank to become a Major.

He's not a "bad boy" renegade like Garrus. He doesn't need guidance, he gives it, and I get the feeling that a lot of people don't like that because Shepard is supposed to be this all knowing being. But he sees Shepard as a human who makes mistakes and he's trying to protect her from all of that.

He's got the charming shyness of Alistair without the sillyness but also the stoic character of someone like Fenris without the anger. He's not too far in either direction which makes him feel like a real person.

If you feel like characters should all have issues that way them down and emotional baggage that their in need of help with from you, than yeah, Kaidan probably seems pretty boring. But I don't believe characters have to be so extreme to be great. They don't have to shout their emotions to get their point across. They can just lose it every once in awhile and it'll have a whole lot more meaning like it did with Kaidan on Horizon.

I like Kaidan cause he's a well-rounded human being complementing what seems to be an almost supernatural Shepard.

Edit:
This page needs more Kaidan:

are you staying with Kaidan despite what happened at horizon?

I personally felt like Horizon was definitely a breakup...but my Shepard wasn't in any condition, mentally, to start a new relationship.  Staying single felt way more natural than choosing any of the romance starting dialogue options, so I never tried any of them.

Maybe I won't want to restart the relationship with Kaidan in ME3, but that would be because he's not written much like the character we met in ME1.  Hopefully, that's not the case.

Also, I'm pretty pro-Systems Alliance, so Horizon didn't bother me.  Being forced to work for Cerberus bothered me more.

Im done trolling this is a serious question. I honestly really do not like Kaidan at all, i find him rather boring and uninteresting. Can you guys tell me why you like Kaidan? Im actually interested in what you have to say

Okay, I'll be straight up. I think Kaidan's back story is very interesting. How he became a biotic in the first. It was ata time when certain corporations..maybe cerberus and maybe government, too...were dumping eezo all over innocent people basically experimenting. Kaidan's mom was pregnant with him during one such accident.

A few years go by and dudes are at his doorstep hauling him off to this training center. Like many other children. It was not a good place. Finally, Kaidan ends up murdering this bastard Turian teacher that was a hurting a young girl that was a friend of his. Kaidan let loose w/ biotic kick to the Turian's head...and he was dead. It freaked Kaidan out, too. He was a young guy.

So, you have this whole tie in with the beginnings of biotics in humans in the ME universe and it's not a pleasant story. Then Kaidan now has this issue with how much of his power to use. How much to hold back. He didn't mean to Kill that Turian. Now he has issues about losing control, and something awful happening.

It's interesting to me.

He's also Cool. He's laid back yet there always this power right beneath the surface that you can sense. He has a dry sense of humour. He's sweet...to Shepard. And he's sexy as hell.

Idk if you only get these dialogue options when he's romanced. It would be a shame if the friendship path isn't as fleshed out as the romance. Alot of characters are like that. If you don't romance them, you miss content and back story. They're supposed to be fixing this in ME3.

But don't troll ppl like that anymore. Let ppl have their lil bit of fun. Is that too much?

I can understand that. I romanced Ashley in ME1 and  Miranda in ME2. I believe my Shepard has much more of connection to Miranda. Honestly i feel Ashley is rude,  immature, and very insecure but i will still give her a chance in ME3 (not relationship wise, im sticking with Miranda) but i hope my Shepard and her can get past that and become good friends again

Oh, and yes. Will stay w/ him even after Horizon. Because I can understand. Don't get me wrong. It hurt my feelings, but..

Your lover shows up after 2 years of you thinking there dead. It looks like they've never been dead. They just ditched you to go work for Cerberus...this awful group that murdered and experimented on your fellow soldiers in ME1. Just to name a few things they've done.. wtf?

Not to mention Kaidan got just long to marinate in the rumors TIM planted about you being alive and working for them. Making sound like something it wasn't. So, his imagination had some time to create all kind of scenarios. .So he was ready to pop regardless.

Too much is unresolved. Unsaid. Too many lies and misunderstandings. Omitted truths.

I'm willing to bet that's how a lot of people came to like Miranda.B)

Or, a lot of characters, for that matter.

aaah, Horizon.... the way I saw it was that it wasn't specifically a breakup. it was a major stumbling block in a relationship that you could take as a breakup.. or a giant argument and misunderstanding, complete with unfortunate circumstances that could be overcome, once misinformation gets cleared up.

my first character? it didn't phase me one bit. well, it did phase me, in terms of being unable to chose proper response options for Shepard (they all sucked IMO, I ended up going for a mixture of paragon and neutral after several reloads.)

but as someone in a long term relationship who went through a share of hardships? to me, if relationship, if the person is worth it? there are very few things that cannot be overcome. and Horizon? I could see Kaidan's (and Ashley's) side much better then I could relate to Shepard's at least the way she was explaining it.

oh well.

Kaidan reminds me of a quieter, more serious version of my husband. so yeah, I like him, how could I not :P

P.S. paging Clara Shepard?

I missed having a best girl friend after Ashley. Tali was a little too innocent and adored Shepard while Jack was way too over the top angry for me. Without a romance there's really nothing you can do to get her to chill out a little. Miranda was just in the middle. She had respect for Shepard, but she wasn't overbearing, and she got her point across without destroying a room in anger. Plus I always like a woman who can take care of herself in a fight without a man constantly backing her up.

One of the things I'm looking fwd to is when Kaidan meets Mirianda. If that happens. Jack Jacob.

I'd like to see that. Miranda and Jacob being ex-cerberus.

And Jack cuz...well she's Jack. That would be interesting

Same here. And it's those reasons that Miranda is my favorite character in the series (Not to say I don't like others).

Why I love Kaidan's character - "Mom was right, I should have brought a sweater"

Honestly, that's golden. He's just a laid back guy who is able to deal with his own ****, yet isn't afraid to ask others about their opinion, always good to have perspective. Plus, I can't wait to see banter with him and Jack; easy on the eyes...

Jack could be much but...I liked her lol. I remeber when that Batarian bartender tried to poison Shep. Shep's on the ground and Jack says, "Shepard, if you can't hold your liquor, you really shouldn't drink." It threw me off cuz it was just so mature and reasonable...

I have some Sheps that stayed with Kaidan and some that moved on. Garrus has been my favorite relationship to move on with. I still have no idea which playthrough I'll do first. I guess whoever I'm crushing on more at the time. I don't have a canon Shep because I simply can't choose between the two characters.
Horizon sucked but I get it. Part of my roleplaying self sill madly wants Kaidan back and is dying for the inevitable reunion, but part of me accepted that he moved on and that I needed to do the same (and happily did so).
Bioware is killing me with these men!

Miranda - I was determined my renegade would be nasty to her, but even pushing for demonic renegade status, I couldn't help but want to help her and Oriana, I went Paragon and protected her because she deserved a human connection. I just wish she hadn't been forced to wear that awful outfit designed for front-of-the-box advertising at a major demographic.

I can't wait to get some more depth like the loyalty missions in 2 in ME3. I think the best mission was Mordin, without a doubt. Fantastic character, brilliant acting.

I know it's not Kaidan related and all, but...just one more thing.

I took Miranda and Jack on the final boss in the SM. The terminator reaper baby...

It was great. They kicked butt. And Miranda had the comm. w/ TIM; she resigned. Just stuck it to him. When he was about to call my Shep a b!tch...as I'm sure he was, "You.." click. Miranda shut it off and walked away while Jack leaned over and gave me the bomb.

That let my Shep know that they've got my back.
