latun your story is fabulous btw.

<3 Thank you!  I've read some other fan fics (shout out to Graceyn's If It Meant Living, which is absolutely ASTOUNDING - if you haven't read them, I highly recommend them) and the talent of some of the writers is through the roof!  I hope to learn from them and improve as I go.

Thanks so much for the reviews of Deception, order cancelled :) I'll save my money and spend it on some lightbulbs or socks or something.

Graceyn, Latun, thank you both for providing excellent stories!

Thank you for reading!

Wow, I hardly even know what to say to this :o.  Thank you SO much for the kind words.  I have loved writing this story so very much; it began as a side thing to satisfy a little twitch and has become a bit of an obsession.  When ME3 gets here I don't know what I'm going to do when I just get to play, and not worry about screenshots and flycams and notes on dialogues and pacing and everything...the first two playthroughs anyway .

As I've already said over on Deviant Art, "Encounter" just gets better with every chapter (except for the brief but delicious hot steaminess a few chapters ago, of course, haven't toped that for, well, that ;) ).  One thing I am not very good at is action/combat scenes; I shy away from them whenever possible, opting for breezy summaries - but you are doing tense action very, very well!  Please continue this story, and more after that :).

Okay, so I haven't beaten ME2 yet (just discovered the ME universe November 2011) and I just went through the Omega 4 relay. I thought the part with Joker and EDI when the ship was attacked was great. I sacrificed Legion; seemed like the logical choice. I can't believe they left it so wide open as far as who you could choose to let die. Who did everyone else sacrifice?

I didn't sacrifice anyone, I kept all my squadmates alive in ME2 I just don't have the heart to kill anyone.

Oh no, how did you do that?  I didn't even know that was possible!

I'm too weak to be able to sacrifice anyone. No matter what I'm just too attached too these characters, so I always prepare everything so that no one gets killed.

Gracelyn, you are too awesome, sweet, and kind.  And I intend to make Kaidan keep that promise. ;)

Here you go:   biowarefans.com/2011/08/mass-effect-2-guide-no-one-left-behind-part-2/.  Who to assign to which tasks, and whether it matters who is loyal.  It's very meta-gamey, takes you out of the "moment"...but at least after the first playthrough, worth it to keep everyone alive :)

How did you sacrifice Legion? It is possible to save everyone if you upgrade the ship, upgrade the guns, and make sure all the characters are leveled up. It also matters as to who you send on each mission while in the collector base.

Thanks, Gracelyn and FFWarQueen! Ah, I see, I chose Jack to lead the second team because I was afraid whoever led it might die too (sorry for whoever loves Jack!). That was where I went wrong.

Don't feel bad. The first time I played ME2, I lost 2 squadmates because I didn't know you needed to pick specific people to lead different tasks. I probably should have kept that save for the reality factor, but I ended up importing that character and trying again. The second time I kept all my squadmates alive.....and lost my entire crew except Chakwas. :pinched: The key is having everything done before you go get the IFF.  :) Good luck!

I had to replay the Omega 4 relay a few times to make sure everyone survived. I had Tali die on two runs, Legion and Mordin. Finally got it right and my final save no one died. :P

@Latun and Graceyn Thanks so very much for those stories! They are fantastic! Keep up the great work! Can't wait to read more...until Demo and Game come out that is!!!

@SilverPearl1977  Thanks for that.  I've gotten past it quite well.  Some days are really hard, esp. with my MS kicking in, but I'm doing okay.  Thanks again.

My first playthrough, I did the same thing (choosing people I didn't like, just in case). I threw Legion into the tech mission, and had Jacob lead the second team both times. Luckily, I chose right  I almost lost Miranda, though, by choosing her as the biotic against the swarms.

the first step is admitting you have a problem isn't it?
I fully intended to do just one more playthrough with an infiltrator because I had never done one before. I got her all the way through ME, and then it struck me that I haven't looked at my canon Tarma in a really long time and I never did get her to level 60.... So I'm back starting again, which really doesn't make sense because I don't ever do anything different, I've never even had the heart to renegade Kaidan.
At least I learned from you folks that I don't have to go through at a crazy level of difficulty to get the xp -- knowing that earlier would have made the infiltrator go a little smoother.

I would never have kept everyone alive if my husband hadn't been there telling me who to use. I was frantic throughout that entire mission. He also told me ahead of time to (1) get everyones loyalty, and (2) complete all missions before going to get the IFF, and (3) buy everyones upgrades. Yeah, totally cheated. Don't care. I would have died inside if any of my squad had been lost.

First time through ME2 I lost mordin even though I thought I did it sensibly ... My mistake was thinking that the crew escort had to be a heavy hitter (I chose grunt) - I only realised I had lost mordin after I had finished and he wasn't in the lab. No mourning, no casket, silent unobserved lack of mordin. I was so mad but thank goodness for save and reload so I could try again.

I managed to keep all my squad alive during the Suicide Mission, although I did spend forever agonising over who I should send to do what duty. I may have also cheated slightly in discovering that getting all of the upgrades is a very good idea...

@Age topic - Hearing all of you guys say you're in your 40s and such makes me feel young and immature :pinched: I just turned 21 a few days ago...

@MP - Am I seriously the only person who's ever played MP before? I used to play Unreal Tournamet aaaalllllll the time and though I had a habit of dying, it's because I started playing that when I was 10ish... And I'm totally going to be Engie, specialising in Medic if I can, so you guys better keep me covered so I can heal you! :P

I've also just started playing ME1 again, with my canon Aminthe. She's just got to level 59 and I'm desperately grinding to get her up to 60 :pinched: Also does anyone know what the romance triggers are for Liara? Just I'm bringing her and Kaidan along on all my missions and I always end up talking to the people I bring along the most, don't want to accidentally ninjamance her...

No, I guess I haven't responded to this topic at all. I've played Left 4 Dead which is massive fun. And I'm a regular MMO player (currently on SWTOR of course!). I don't usually play shooters but I can function in a group and if we don't have to worry about friendly fire it'll be just fine. :P

Tell me about it  I'm 17, so I feel insanely young and immature, too.

Nah, I've got MP experience from Resident Evil 5, Uncharted 2 and 3, Red Dead Redemption, Fable 2 and 3, LittleBigPlanet 1 and 2, Left 4 Dead 1 and 2, Assassin's Creed Brotherhood and Revelations, Lord of the Rings: War in the North, LotR Online, League of Legends, Portal 2, and pretty soon I can add Mass Effect 3 to the list :wizard: Good to know someone's playing a medic, though, because I know that I'm going to need one at the very least :D Leeroy Jenkins ain't got nothin' on me!

I believe Liara's romance triggers when you ask her about Asari having children, but I could be wrong. That seemed to cause it for me, though, on every playthrough.

Speaking of Liara, I'm starting another ME1 playthrough. Should I recruit her first, like I usually do, or wait until after Virmire to hear her go crazy?

Holy cow, just beat ME2 for the first time with no casualties thanks to you guys!! I destroyed the collector ship. Hope that turns out to have been the smart decision. I am SO GLAD I don't have to wait 2 years for ME3. I would EXPLODE. I feel for all of you that played this right when it was released.

I prefer Noveria then get Liara, not triedor Noveria AND Feros before Liara but I guess that would work too - basically give you enough conversations with your prefered LI before you get her, thus preventing the ninjamance scenario.

You get a lot more dialog on Noveria if Liara is with you, but I find that annoying against Benezia - I always play on too-high a level so always takes me 2-3 attempts before I make it through all her commandos and her geth. And it takes longer to skip through the extra dialog before you can defeat her if you have Liara there too.

Aah, Benezia... Don't get me wrong, I was a big TNG fan (not as big as DS9, the best modern Trek series, imho) but Benezia felt like a SyFy original movie villain rather than someone to be feared.

I played Left 4 Dead all the time but it was really frustrating just finding a group of people to play with. L4D is really complicated though. You need people with microphones and you need people who are willing to work together. You can't go rambo like in Halo or Call of Duty. It would sometimes take me a half hour to find a good group. Then there were times I would get kicked out cause girls sound like little boys and no one likes to play with little kids.

I'm glad ME is a team multiplayer though, competitive MP is just irritating with people teabagging each other, screaming racist and sexist stuff over mics, and generally just being irritants.

I really didn't use my brain on my first suicide run. I picked Garrus to close the door. He got shot in the face and I was like no and started over. Saved everyone after that.

Congratulations!  For all the weaknesses ME2 has, the Collector Base sequence is one of the best finales ever created in video games (seriously, I just read that in the new PC Gamer, that rated ME1 #20 and ME2 #12 on best PC games of all time).  I will be doing it (again) in the next week or so, and can't wait.

And yes, you lucky dog you that you get ME3 like, instantly .

Nooo, I read another spoiler, damn you internet, damn you!!

Mind you, it's not that big of a spoiler, and it doesn't involve Kaidan, so I guess it's not so bad.

I'm really looking forward to ME multiplayer - my colleagues and I play Company of Heroes quite often, and while it's quite a different beast, it's still awesome and you really feel for those troops. But Relic online is awful, and if you lose a squad mate due to internet outage then they're gone, they get replaced with AI and you can't get them back in. If this happens early on then you want to restart and get them in there with you, but if you quit before the end then you essentially throw the game! This is why I never made it above level 5 on CoH - not because I am crap, but because I keep quitting because the Relic protocol can't handle multiplayer connectivity drops correctly, or accept that, sometimes, you just need to restart because someone's graphics levels were set too high and caused them to drop before the damn game even started! </rant>

I'm sure ME MP will be far better!

I got Liara later when she is halluncinating:lol: Hilarious!! I didn't even know that would happen.

People that want to get to lvl 60 easier get Pinnacle Station if you don't have it. It racks up some major exp for you. I just imported my 60 lvl player into ME2. OMG!! Start at lvl 5 with 8 pts to start out with:O I thought something was wrong but no that is an awesome perk. Plus the other little goodies you get, money, minerals exc.

SM I have lost people due to my own stupidity but I have played it over and over till I got it right. Now I know the system. My poor step dad was just finishing up ME2 when I came to get it. He didn't know to go right away after the crew is abducted so he lost his whole entire ship's crew minus Chakwas. I felt bad for him. However everyone survived even with 1 non loyal person.

Ugh though now I have to go thru everything all over again in ME2 including Horizion. Well at least I got a 8 pt lead.

Edit: Apparently this is my week for getting top!
