Well, when you work for a company that is just releasing a new product, you don't normally go on twitter or facebook or wherever and say that you don't like the product or even some part of it. It's totally unprofessional to do so and in some circumstances, it results in people losing their jobs. Although the case we are discussing isn't that severe, it still doesn't seem right.

I agree that it's ok for them to have their preferences, but voicing them and consequently making some fans upset over it isn't the way to go. And as for Mr Silverman - well, if he knows Kaidan fans so well, then he knows they are fed up with the "but he's dead in my playthrough" joke. We've been hearing it for yeeeears now and it would be nice if someone showed some support for a change. Teasing or not.

And he was just needling us with that comment. I think some people are reading way too much  into his tweet. As for professionalism, I think Silverman has handled himself well considering he gets bombarded with inane tweets all the time, so if he wants to crack a joke, I think that's more than acceptable. It's not like he said:"oh hell no! KaidEn is stoopid! lulz" He will probably do what he can, but he doesn't want to offer any guarentees.

Why should we have to wait for the demo though, IF he's even on there, do we know if our saves can actually import into the demo? Or will we have to play with what they give us and if they do you know it's Ashley we'll be seeing right?

And again why should we have to wait for the demo to see our favorite character AND femshep? Seriously? Do we have to always be fed scraps?

We're not getting frustrated simply because we want to play the game, but because the game is almost here and no showcasing about these things that matter to us have happened. Their whole reason to keep marketing quiet so as to reveal spoilers is weak as all hell. There's plenty of ways to generate buzz, give people some new things to look forward without telling us exactly what goes down. Screenshots for example, more art concepts would even be nice. Not everything has to be a big video production with spoilery scenes..

edit: Sorry no I'm not calming my ******... This is getting silly, we've got a month to go. I'm not at all confident we'll be getting much of anything.

why should they sound impartial? to not alienate fanbases, maybe? this "we don't really need you" hubris, the "we'll just have other people buy the games instead of you" is not a good thing. fans who buy games is what allows developers to make more games in a future.

they can even express their personal preferences... WITHOUT bashing other characters. or is it too much to ask for from mature adults who do marketing for a living? >_>

Whoa! Whoa! Where are you getting this "we don't really need you" attitude?

I haven't seen anything like that from any Bioware employee. I think some people are being way too sensitive and negative, and negativity spreads like wild fire on the boards. The demo is coming out soon. We'll see Kaidan then. Hopefully, we'll get to see him when they release the femShep trailer as well.

As for your snarky comment... perhaps as Kaidan fans, WE need to act like adults. Lashing out like spoiled brats because we haven't seen in-game footage of Kaidan doesn't reflect kindly on us. When I saw that other thread a few days ago, I was embarassed to be a Kaidan fan because it made us look like whiny, demanding fangirls.

I know people are frustrated about not seeing Kaidan. Heck, I would love to see a character vid on him like the ones they released for ME2, but that's highly unlikely. I just think we're letting ourselves get caught up in this negative frenzy because it's so close to ME3, and our patience is wearing thin.

have you READ the origin thread in general ME3 forums?  becasue if you haven't - I suggest that you do, specificaly the comments from bioware employees. the " you have a choice not buy the game if you don't like what we're doing, we don't care, casue we'll just keep on doing it"  is strong there.

and as far as being patient, no one is really lashing out.  however, of all the confirmed squadmates, Kaidan was the only one not getting much marketing and NO in game footage.  which on its own woudln't have been so bad, IF various bioware employees, including full time marketing director didn't go on to basicaly tell how much they dislike and/or don't care for Kaidan.

its the combination of all the factors.

Seriously, the demo comes out in a few days, for those who doubt Kaidan will be in the FemShep version, I highly doubt that. The Xbox demo that got leaked had Anderson going "Major Alenko, get the normandy blah blah" so he's in there, stop freaking out.

Calm your ******, a la Tumblr.

EDIT AH **** I HAVE TOP but my work blocks images, let me diggg.
*snip pic so it's not "spamming"*

Thanks! ^_^

I like Kaidan, and I can't wait to see him in ME3. I think the relationship between him and Shep is only going to get more complex and deep as they bridge that gap that has sprung up between them.

We will NOT be able to import saves/character in to the Demo.  However, they have said that "part" of the choices mechanic will be in place - which I think/hope means at the very least who's alive and who's dead, and hopefully more choices.  Also, I have to think that since in a non-import ME2 if you made a femShep you got Kaidan at the beginning, the same would be true here.

@Eshaye: We will not be able to import our save files into the demo, but they will have the CC in there.

@jeweledleah: Yes, I've read the origin thread. Honestly, what do you expect them to say? People are hating on origin, but it's mandatory for ME3. BW can't change it, but people still harp on it.

There gets a point where the posters just argue in circles. Bioware can only say so much about it before they sound like a broken record, but I don't think that means that Bioware is saying "DEAL WITH IT" to all their fans on all fronts over every issue we may have.

edited to add: and what about Tali? I'm no huge fan of hers, but she barely got anything. It was a blink and you miss her preview. Kaidan got a giant pic in a magazine. I thought that was way cool and very unexpected.

That's good news. So a choice tree then at the end of CC like in ME2, when it verified your choices, is what I'm guessing.

I'm confused. Is this just about a couple of tweets by two devs being annoyed by some of the VS's dialogue or what?

But we have no context for those tweets. In other words, maybe the VS is being a punk during a certain part that might hinder Shepard. My point being... we don't know. So getting upset over these tweets would be a waste of energy.

I'd like to think that Ash and Kaidan would jump on board whatever plan I come up with, but maybe they won't because there will more than likely be some residual mistrust over Shep having worked for Cerberus.

I actually like tweets like those because it gets me wondering about what is going on in the game and if my experience might be the same or vastly different depending on my choices.

Don't know. I read that before and didn't find it the least bit offensive. Devs sometimes use twitter to joke amongst themselves and with their fans, I never had a feeling that they were supposed to be unbiased all the time. In fact, the only thing I thought upon reading that was "Huh, Jessica doesn't like the VS all that much. I wonder if they *do* question Shepard's orders at one point. Would be interesting to see some tension."

Honestly, I like that most of the guys over at twitter mix in some of their own feelings and observations. I like seeing how our thoughts compare. I imagine if I were a dev, I'd feel awful being obliged to weigh every word I say for fear someone might tear it apart and read into it - in fact, it would make me dread posting anything at all. People here are starting to get too sensitive, and I mean that as no insult.

Only the third Tweet is from Jessica Merizan (BSN Community Manager ) she replied  the fist two (and these are not from BioWare Staff). I just post this because context-dependent

^This. So much!^

I think it's a horrible catch-22 for the people at Bioware. We want the devs to be friendly with us and be able to act chummy with them. But when they write something that someone may or may not like, they get bashed for it and called out as unprofessional.

Oh, okay, maybe it's just me but this tweet doesn't sound like it refers to specifiс situation - it sounds like general opinion towards characters. But I'm not native speaker, so may easily be wrong.

And for "being dev / community related person is hard because your every word is watched" - I partially blame overall publicity of our lives. What would be told some years ago in letter or telephone talk or SMS and would be kept in private tends to end on Twitter or Facebook now, hence becoming public. Oh, I feel old in my 21 telling this.

Boy, I feel like we've gotten far off-topic, so I'm posting a Kaidan in hopes that we can all try to leave the negativity behind and focus on the man who rocks our world as LI, best bro, or both.

It may refer to several situations or she is just generally annoyed whenever the VS butts in with a comment. Either way, it's her opinion. Nothing more.

That is true, and because of that, people (anyone getting upset over these tweets) should accept that just because something is public due to the very nature of the service, doesn't mean it should be interpreted as "official" and thus indicative of something (or whatever the people are accusing Jessica for, I'm not sure I got it right).

As Kaidan and Shep would understand, there are regs.

When you are marketing, you reach out to the masses and close out as few as possible - simple as that. Don't alienate your audience, don't just throw out comments that will annoy a sector of your potential customers because it will come back and bite you. Think before you post! But that doesn't mean you can't be social - you just choose your words carefully.

Unrelated note, finally got to the end of Manipulations - damn that is one of the finest fanfics, talk about slow build up with rewards! But equally, awesome twist in Chap 15 on Encounter! Awesome stuff guys :)

I hate that a member of the Mass Effect team said that. They've gone out of there way to make fun of those two characters but have nothing but praise for other characters. I'm starting to join the pessemism train when I read things like this especially since someone ELSE amde fun of them and Merizan CO-SIGNED.Image IPB

This. This is exactly how I feel. I don't think we're getting a screenshot any time soon before the demo (which is a little under 2 weeks away thankfully). Ugh, I can't help but feel like they have it in for us fans just because we like a character that they don't like. Great marketing!

Oh and "KaidEn." How hilarious and original.

Your assumption is that those people who tweeted were being malicious or hurtful in their intent. That's not the case. It's rather unethical and extremely unfair to treat their tweets/words as if they were acting in a disrespectful manner because they were not.

Your post is a perfect example of how some people are blowing things out of proportion. Marketing's job is to try to bring in new people to the fandom, not cater to the whims of the fans they already have. What would be the point in that as they are already likely to buy the next game anyway?  And I still have seen no proof that anybody on the Bioware staff is alienating or maligning fans maliciously.

I have to admit, I was a little upset at the way the devs seem to be treating Kaidan/Ashley - though Kaidan, especially. I understand that they have their own opinions about the characters, but sometimes it just feels like the VS fans are being ignored. I was ranting to a friend about it, after I saw those tweets, and he pretty much laughed at me...which, in return, made me laugh. I mean, there's always a silver lining, right? My friend made me realize that even though there's no Kaidan marketing, it'll only make the moment we first see Kaidan that much sweeter. Image IPB

I know we're all angry and in rage mode, but just take a breath, guys. Hopefully, we hear something soon...and don't forget that the demo's almost here.  We'll have our Kaidan soon enough. Image IPB

And because we're all still waiting for some Kaidan news, here's "Waiting for Action" by Shoko

The number of topics you guys can cover in a single day of my absence never ceases to amaze me.

That sucks about the script Kaidan artwork for RS. You kind of have to expect it though if you choose to put something on the internet. The risk is always going to be there. And I'm sure he'll be hella impressed with the final version. Be proud of the work you did because I'm sure the completed poster will blow his mind.

The RS and Jen Hale audioblog...omg..my two favorite VAs together for a mind boggling 22 minutes. Those two are amazing.

On the VS hate from bioware...as much as it sucks, I think we need to just accept that this game isn't marketed toward fangirls. It sucks, but it's not going to change. Being hostile about it isn't going to broker us any favor with the bioware team. The people testing the game to make it the best it can be have every right to love or hate whichever characters they choose. Just like we do. Luckily RS has our backs and is happy to feed the frenzy.

On another note, I just got the books in the mail yesterday so my presence might be a little sparse for the next week or so. Try to keep your heads up everybody!

I updated the OP with information on Raphael Sbarge, his pic, and more links. If anyone has anything else to add, please let me know.

Personally, I don't want to ask Bioware employees to censor themselves...but it does rankle when we see nothing but derision for Kaidan and/or Ashley, while other characters are obvious favorites. It makes me worry about their roles in ME3. BUT, I think right now, as fans, we need to look at the fact that we're extraordinarily lucky to have Jacqui visiting this thread, and Mr. Sbarge so eager to promote Kaidan's role. So I'd say keep promoting his twitter and facebook, pass around links when new audioblogs go up on fangeek.com, and urge people to watch Once Upon A Time (okay, that last one is partially selfish, because I really want it to have a second season).

Well I think we might have to take some of that with a grain of salt since I called Merizan on the tweet where she made fun of the VS and got this a few minutes later:
