Russians have this skin tone once in a blue moon. Even in subtropical Sochi. Curly hair is also pretty rare.
I'm not that good in determining other nationalities, so this question is open for me.

Hmm I think Kaidan is an arabian name, and alenko a russian lastname.. so my best guess is a mix of those two.

Noone really knows what ethnicity Kaidan is, apparently the ME universe doesn't put much importance on it as earth has become one giant melting pot. He looks mediterranean, has a russian surname, his mum was in singapore when she was pregnant with him, but his folks currently live in canada. So its anyones guess really!

not a huge fan of Vega either, but I'm beginning to worry:
I mean we don't like hate on Kaidan and yet the negativity towards Vega in this thread seems okey? ... am I the only one who sees a problem there?!

That is a major difference in Kaidan's ME2 and ME3 thread. Bashing other chars is a big no-no there and I love this whole bunch of people posting there, though it's almost dead now.

And Vega looks awesome. IMO he needs this tiny change so his face looks more proportional, but even without that model looks solid and detailed. I hope his design is close to be final.

Bashing character basing solely on his/her look is just awful. Especially strange when everyone shout "sexed up female characters!" and several days later "fugly male characters!".
Ah, about male characters: first all that hate towards Kaidan, then Jacob, now James? Am I the only who sees strange trend here?

And yes, tiny changes. But I still like Vega's original look, too.

Eh, I like Vega. He's not really my type as far as looks go but he seems interesting enough. Besides, you can't expect every character to be drool-worthy. xD I'll be looking forward to seeing what he's like in ME3. It'll be very interesting to see how Kaidan interacts with a male subordinate, and just, well, Kaidan being in a position of authority in general.

While I do like that idea, I don't think it's highly probable. After all, we did techinically see Kaidan shirtless back in ME1 and he looked pretty smooth

Hey, who knows, maybe chest hair is part of his character redesign!

This is something we keep returning to. Here is the best explanation I've come up with:

Kaidan is Canadian from what I understand. Well, that isn't technically currect either. According to the codex Canada and Mexico are part of the US. So technically he is American and probably includes all that entails. 200 years from now I'm sure most people are somekind of mutt of ethnicities. Especially in North America which is already a melting pot of hundreds of cultures and ways of life.

Yes Kaidan's mother was in Singapore when she was pregnant with him but his father was in the military too. (It was never made clear if his father served in the Alliance or in one of the still many different miliaries across Earth) He could have very well just been stationed in China for a time.

As for his name, my last name is Scottish but I by no means consider myself Scottish in any way. This goes back to my first point, surnames have probably been spread around just as much as heritage. And first names usually rarely give any hint on a person's ethnicity.

I doubt even he claims any origin than to say his is from Earth. But again this is mostly just guess work on my part. Feel free to agree or disagree.

also: james vega looks fine but i sincerely hope he doesnt turn out to be another douche like jacob. great body. horrible personality. i dont know but jacob just annoyed the hell out of me for some reason. i always have him killed in my gameplays. except one save all squadmate scenario.

It's probably just me, but I also like this concept art of Kaidan. I am loving how his cheekbones seemed so defined. It makes him look even manlier than ever especially with that 5 o'clock shadow and how I'd just love to run my hands on his -
