Not surprised. Ash stayed with Shepard in their first night before Ilos as well. Why should Shep make love with Ash in ME3 and kick her out of his cabin as soon as the deed is done? Doesn't make sense.

Ash could be a "stay here tonight" guest - or moved in permanently. It's up to you.
Since it's the very last night before the finale, it doesn't make much difference if she moved in or not. It's the last night in Shepard's lifee, the next one will be in London, ending with him either dead or separated by the crew (or indoctrinated ... right).

That's why I wrote that essay I mentioned a few dozens pages earlier.

Ash got the worst treatment of the "BIG THREE". Garrus got a similar good treatment as Liara, it just works as friendship AND romance likewise. The romance scenes themselves are okay but nothing special. Kaidan's treatment is slightly better than Ashley's, but only 'cause he's romanceable by both genders and therefore may be used by more players than Ash.
Tali got a quite short end of the stick as well and I would say she got a worse treatment than Ashley: sidelined for most of the story, no face reveal than a manipulated stock image, only very few romantic moments: Tali only got more screentime than Miranda 'cause she's still a member of the crew.

Just my image. Ash didn't get the worst treatment out of the five - for the romance, she's on #3, for general content she's #4. Tali is #5 in both contests, Liara is #1 for the romance, Garrus is #1 for the friendly stuff, pretty much like the new guy Vega.

My opinion, of course

Still: the inconsistency of quality in those five romances is more than just irritating. It's character damaging and in case of Ashley, the damage is so grievous, she's almost no longer the character we enjoyed in ME1.

My favourite pairing..... was annoyed that I lost Ash as a squadmate for what felt like half of the game. I was trying to recreate my ME1 team goddamn it!! :-)

The worst part I think is that game gives you a chance to gun her down, and not even in a heroic stand where she defies shepard for something worth dying for, but dying a stupid death protecting Udina of all people. I had never took that path myself but the fact that it even exist makes no sense.

yeah the VS was treated a little shabby in that manner even though I am noticed on my friendly playthrough with Kaidan he seems to have a lot more non-romanced content than Ash is supposed to have (never tested it as I always romance Ash no matter what my plans are to try something different)

Replayed the Horizon mission in ME2.

Damn it. It's lame how you just blurt out "Cerberus" no matter which of the 3 options you choose and then she's all pissed at you for the rest of the conversation. Oh well.

I feel like the game kinda wanted you to go for Liara instead of Ash. Since Liara has a romance scene in all 3 games and Ash has a decent romance in ME1, an awkward moment on Horizon then a stupid picture in ME2, then their romance is kinda on the rocks in ME3 only after the Udina fiasco, do you get a solid romance... after which Shepard dies anyways. Ohh Bioware...

You guys were talking about the unfair treatment of the VS. So... this came up.

Lets face it:

ME1 had equal romances. Equal in a way they felt a bit the same but ALSO gave you full freedom to choose from. If you loved blue girls, Liara was there for you. If you played a female Shepard and wanted a handsome dude, Kaidan is your pick. And for us, they added Ashley.

ME2 sidelined all original romances. Without LotSB, Liara's romance would be still at equal level (= sidelined) in the second part of the series. LotSB started the trend to give Liara extra content in that field.

And in ME3 ... yeah. Liara is the "perfect friend OR girlfriend with the perfect romance". I don't mind this, since she has a huge fandom and at least they got what they were yearning for. Liara's romance also displays what I wanted for Ashley, so it's a perfect example BW is still able to create decent romances.
However, the inconsistency of quality of the romance arcs is irritating as I said earlier. Out of the original three romances, Ashley feels the worst treated. Kaidan got a bit more stuff to do with, but that's mostly caused by the fact he's available to both sexes now. Plus: he got at least a shadow of a friendship path while Ash got nothing in that field.

The "best friends" of Shepard in ME3 seem to be Garrus and Vega. That's okay to me, but also feels a bit railroaded - why can't I RP my Shepard in a way Ashley is his best friend (and lover)?
Can do this only with HEAVY headcanoning since it's not in the game.

Its not just kind of way, the game gives you so many alone moments with Liara I don't mind too much because I consider her a friend but moments like the time capsule felt romantic; but then again I really like that scene.
Idk how to really argue it because I dont like how the game tries to get to romance Liara but I enjoy the moments with her Liara.
I do wish I got to spend those moments with Ash though

The issue I had with ash's romance (and pretty much all of them, tali was ok) is that really you where gone for 6 months... if not more and the moments just never really lasted.

With Ash in the hospital you end up touching base back with the romance (then end up having shep ruin the mood) and then after the coup. never really allowed to get back into that romance feeling, even the "last night" Shep seemed more or less not in the mood. Until Ash pushed her way in (not saying it was a bad thing just kinda awkward) I mean back on ME1 The had the tention mounting for awhile and then when in the cabin, she confesses with poetry and even then had a small contest of (who was in control) so it was fun in its own way.

I just get the feeling you don't really everyfully fall in a romance.

Plus the fact you don't really get any "Dialoge" with ash after the coup arc. She gets the Kasumi treatment. Don't get me wrong when she is hungover I think its cute, but really?? the only time we get to "talk" to her is when she is hungover??

Dunno. Think it wasn't too difficult to avoid any other romance: technically, Cortez & Liara try to get in your pants before you get Ashley back. And for both you need to pull the "lets stay friends" line. Worked for me
Uhh, and don't do Diana.

Not sure if "lets do the bed thing" option for Traynor counts as "cheating" (renegade option after chess match).

Well, I know it's not Cortez and definitely not Diana as I never even talk to her. lol

So, it's gotta be Liara or Traynor. 

I'm at the point where you can talk to Liara about when she was a kid on the citadel and you can choose two options... one about being friends and one that shuts her up. (Can't remember the actual choices)

Wondering if picking the line that she seems to like is actually romancing her as a new romance in ME3 or something? 

OR it could be that I told traynor to take a shower, but then didn't join her (the romance I thought was joining her) before the chess match. 

OR it could be that the gibbed saves don't actually work even though ADL told me they did. lol

Comparing Liara to Ash isn't really fair. Liara has more dialogue because she is the narrator for the 1st 3 mission plus Eden Prime. For whatever reason the developer picked Liara+EDI to give techno babble and exposition, so of course their lines are longer and more often. Garrus is chosen to be the funny guy, so he ends up with the best lines in the game.Going by that, then you get: Liara>Garrus>VS>Tali.

If you compare the only the romance quest, ME1 crews are about even. Ash get's 3 hospital visits, memorial with her sister and a date. Plus one scene where she has hang over. Liara has 2 scenes on the presidium, 2 scenes on the ship. Liara's auto dialogues from what I remember is not much better than anyone else, in fact it's even worse than Ash's after you get her back on board. If you only count personal moments, it goes like Garrus>VS>Liara>Tali.

But then Again 1/3 of the game revolves heavily around the Quarian so Tali get plenty of attention for that.

I still think it's stupid that the game lets you shoot Ashley tho.
