I envy you I'm still really upset and sad. The ending was a complete betrayal of the series and us the fans.

I'm just in denial.  I'll keep playing ME1 and 2 and eagerly awaiting ME3's release sometime this summer!

FYI, Denial is awesome! A couple more sidequests and then I get to hookup with Ash on the way to Ilos!

I can't wait to see how this ends in ME3!!

What I really wanted to happen in the endings before the release/leaks were discovered was:

Shepard makes it to the final control console along with the squad (Ash and James in my case). He find himself in a mental facility - it was an illusion by the Reapers - with writings all over the wall. He's got a pencil in one hand and he's near a half-completed paragraph, and there are two people their, a Doctor and a Nurse representing the Reapers and TIM.

Both are encouraging you to put the pencil down and erase the words, but there's another whisper in Shepard's mind - the LI, Ashley in this case from the real world telling you to activate the crucible and end the Reapers. In the real world, he's compeltely phased out. Ash is contiuning her encouragement, and getting worried asking what's wrong.

At this point Shepard has two options:
He can submit to the two figures, in the real world, he'll pull out his gun and head-shot his two squadmates. (failure - no requirements)
  • And if the EMS is low enough, Shepard even begins to Spearhead the Reaper Forces, and his cybernetics begin to resemble TIM's.
  • If EMS is high enough, Shepard'll regain his will long enough to shot himself in the head after a big 'NOOOOO!' moment.
Or, he can try to contiune writing in the illusion, prompting both men to attack him.
  • Shepard either curbstomps them and finishes the text (high EMS) - which results in him securing his mental stability once more. Before Shepard seems to regain himself, Ashley presses her hand over his saying 'Please Shepard...' before he activates the console. (Happens no matter what)
  • or he wins (mid EMS) - finishes the writing. He's mentally fatigued in the real world, but stable enough to contiune.
  • He wins barely (low EMS) - Finishes the writing but the mental strain leaves his mind completely shattered. He's not beyond treatment, but he'll never make a full recovery.
In the Epilogue, it's on the Citadel, and depending on the EMS, he's either in the SpecTRe office, the Commons or the Hospital. We see a child racing towards him for a tackling hug (a girl hopefully) and the LI (Ash) following contently behind.

Aynway. Just thought I'd share that.

I dunno, I see the artsy, but where's the unavoidable sense of failure that bioware insisted on putting in the real ending?

It's a clever idea though (similar to Shadows and Symbols from DS9).  I do love the idea of our squad (esp the LI) helping Shepard overcome in the end. Would have totally fit with the theme of overcoming through unity and teamwork and such...

*sigh* No, I'm actually not. I've been past my acceptance stage for ME3 before the game was released. (Yeah, I read most if not all of the spoilers) Sure, I was mad then, but I'm at peace with the situation now. I'm not a fan of the endings (I don't hate them either), but I don't go around the forums raging about how they should be fixed. Hell, I haven't done it here in this thread. I express my concerns now and then, being civil about it. And at times here, I like poking fun at it.

Interesting.
I haven't read any of spoilers myself. Other than those posted on BSN before they introduced "no spoilers" rule. Well after many thing were spoiled, including smoked jerkey companion.

You see, I share same approach with Garrus: "I like to expect the worst. There is a small chance I'll be pleasantly surprised". It turns out I wasn't pleasantly surprised after all. I wasn't surprised in any way, because everything went as expected - if you sent your plane into dive, you have to pull up or bail out, otherwise you will crash.

So you can say I accepted ME3 failure long before release. I was displeased with direction ME2 took, even more displeased with direction DA2 went, but I bought DA2 regardless, and bought almost all DLCs (silk lingerie excluded) for ME2, as sign of "support and good will". Of course, I had my hopes with ME3, thinking that ME ship has enough buoyancy to stay afloat, regardless of actions taken by developers, thus preordered 3 copies of CE.

If you feel dramatic, I can use something like "Of course, 2012-03-06 showed me whole depth of my delusion", but that's not entirely correct. Like I said, I was expecting failure, but I didn't expect that kind of failure, that's true. They definitely managed to sink this great ship, killing everyone aboard. Maybe "murdering" or "massacring" are more appropriate. But I digress.

What I really didn't expect was fan rage, actually. Since I was in business trip, basically without internet (jerky 3G), I was somewhat cut-off from rest of the world and used my free time to experience all game combinations available to me. But I had no idea what was happening among fans. I really didn't predicted storm of that magnitute. That's comforting - because when I voiced my concerns to my "entourage", I was called "paranoid" and "spreader of negative" (WTF is that?Posted Image). Paranoid teetotaller who wan Chivas Regal 21 y.o. Figures.

To be honest, my current emotion is nice blend of apathy and sadness, probably same degree of sandess Kelly Chambers feels to quarians. My sadness is not concentrated on quarians though, but rather on game characters, be they first row, second or seventeenth. I take such poor writing and development of them as capital offense, especially after "promises" regarding "fewer crewmembers - better interactions". "Yeah, right, whatever".©™®

That's sad part. Seeing how they treat us (well, mostly you, I wasn't here during first weeks) is more irritating, rather than disgusting, like find fly in your field ration at the end of the day after exhaustive maneuvers. A bit disappointed, yes - she sits on your food and eat it. Without asking your permission first (military discipline plus wear and tear multiplied by sleep deprivation - your brain will do funny tricks, trust mePosted Image).

So one and only thing that comforts me somewhat, in regards of characters, I mean, is one good reason, justifying that meaningless Shepard's death (heard your enemy and follow his advice? Ahm... NOPE)  - his reunion with his beloved one.

[Here be some sad image of Ash and Shepard, but since I can't post them, use your imaginationPosted Image]

That was one of my inspirations. Took some inspiration from DS9, evangelion and a few other shows. I love mind-trippy  stufff, but ME3s ending just made my brain melt.

Yeah, I enjoy headtrippy too.  When it makes sense.  Not when it's forced and non-sensical...
Plus, like I said, your ending had options, and not forced failure, which would have been boss.

And Ashley, your ending had more Ashley Posted Image

I just wanted to clarify that I have played the original Mass Effect. And have experienced the complete Ashley romance even though I couldn't import it because I play on the PS3.

Bad days since ME became awesome for me on the PC :)
(I don't haz X-Box!)

I remember those days when Ashley was "one of the best developed and authentic characters in games history". She was so authentic and fulfilling - you easily could fall in love with her. That illusion was almost perfect.

And then came ME3.
And the illusion was destroyed ... :(

My love for Ash dates back to 2008 - which means more than twice the time than I'm together with RL love ^^
However, must say, I definitely want an Ashley for real. She symbolizes everything I admire in women - and that means a lot. Absolute dream type.

You don't have to, TNS ;)
It's all about taste.

Nah, seriously, to me Ashley symbolizes a fully emancipated, strong woman without running into the field of "man hate" some feminists have these days. She's pretty much a partner that's not just a lover but also a comrade and best friend. What do you need more than a multi-layered relationship?

I dunno. She says it, but did you witness anything more than I did?
Meh. Only Shepard can tell. And he won't, polite as he is (that screams for a dialogue later) B)

It does damage that illusion for sure. Ash feels only like Ash in the romance scenes, on Mars, in the Hospital and in the Udina coup. She doesn't feel like Ash for the entire second half of the game ...
