It makes me think Ash still has issues with the aliens Shepard as on the Normandy.  She did seem to care about Liara after Thessia.

It is possible that only Liara will be one and only alien on board (plus "envoys"). It is possible to play Female, who couldn't have any romance with Ash. She still be there.
Maybe they failed some import flag, I don't know. I think Kai Leng is their avatar now: one and only thing he could succeed was failure.

Tali drunk was funny.  Ash drunk was hot mess.

Ashley's drink was about as meaningful as ending. Why she drunk, what reason, why not to talk with anyone, especially Shepard, especially if he visiting her after every damn mission?
Sorry, I can't see any deep pholosophical meaning. Only sloppy work.

ladyvader wrote...

Why take the time to have Kaidan move around the ship and everyone else, but not Ash?  Seems odd to me is all.  Even Adams and Chakwas move around.

IIRC:
- Tali moves twice, after Thessia and after Horizon.
- Garrus moves thrice to lounge, once to galley.
- James moves to galley twice, once to lounge.
- Kaidan moves to engine room once, to crew cabin once, to lounge once.
- EDI moves once back to AI core, IIRC.
- Javik... don't remember, once to gallows?
- Liara moves once, to lounge.

Don't know if it has been said before but it kinda irked me that Anderson constantly referred to Ashley as Lieutenant Commander, even though it should just be commander.

Not that it is a particularly big problem for me, it just bothered me a little when i played that segment.

I voiced it after demo - IMHO "commander" reserved for Shepard alone. Though IIRC right in Vancouver Anderson calls her just "commander" once, before husks.

As i said i don't see it as a problem, it just doesn't with Anderson a man who has been in the military his whole life and would know how to address officers. Still it doesn't ruin Ashley in the game for me.

P.s. Shepard is referred to as commander because s/he is a commander. Wait that's kind of self explanatory<_<

Ash and Shepard are actually the same rank.  Both are Lt. Commanders.  You never hear anyone call Shepard LC like Shepard calls Ash.

I always thought Shepard was a full commander following ME1 but never had that confirmed either on codex or ME wiki but would make sense if they refer to the two of them differenty (ash and shep I mean)

My cousin is in the royal navy and he told me on the ship he serves on the CO is a Commander and the XO is a Lt Commander and they refer to them by their full title when asking a question but that might just be in the British royal navy.

That's probably because then there would be two officers referred to as commander on the ship and it would be confusing to distinguish between them during an operation.

Shepard is promoted to full commander in 3, atleast that's what stands in the character creation.

p.s. there's something wrong with your ff.net link. I think?

Anderson is written by them. And they could make mistakes.

Till ME3 he was one and only person with that rank. And generally it is possible that one and only thing that came from IRL is referring to any chief as chief and any commander as commander. Generally it depends on morale and relations in unit, plus degree of "officiozo" inside.

ladyvader wrote...

Shepard is protagonist of series. He's been called that rank for long time, even when technically he wasn't one. We call our commanding officer as "commander", regardless of his rank, for example. And it is allowed to use even in official referals. Not uber-official, like some big cheese visit or some memorial/ceremonial thing.
Not sure if it fits ME.

There is no full commander in ME, it's not Halo. And I do not remember Shep's being promoted.

Strange, I've met some tommies, RN included, none of them pointed that out - everything was like here, only, well, with British ranks and word. Image IPB
Maybe it's just your cousin's commanders pushing hard.

Nope. Lieutenant-Commander is very long to write and pronounce. When **** hits the fan, the shorter command, the better> you give orders faster, clearer, without overloading it with useless info.

Achaewa wrote...

There is no full commander, there are LtCdr and Staff Commander. And nothing ever stated he was promoted.

Yes, he does deserves better ending.
I think TIM is most worthlessly wasted character in game development ever. Having such scheming, such shady, such [add_your_description_here] character and turn him into some cartoon villain? Come on!
Given his character he could be turned into person who manipulated Shepard and most of Council races into doing what he needed, having his hands practically clean and remaining unnoticed. He is Illusive man, for the duck sake, not "Obvious man".
And yes, after playing Witcher I really expected two story curves - one similar to existing one, second is "pro-cerberus" one.
I'm not sure for exact term, to be honest I don't know how it is looks in English, but in layman's terms it will be something "your choice is right, regardless of what you've chosen". For example, should player choose turn himself to Alliance then TIM and Cerberus are moved to more "evil" party (not like now). Should you choose Cerberus path, and it turns out that TIM was right, there is no other way to beat Reapers other than using his plan (not to control nonsense, no, that just example).
And please, spare me of moral colouring, I'm tired of that crap. Witcher does it better.
Dixi.

Yeah you're right he is way too underused in the game, he was set up to be this big chessmaster magnificent bastard, but all of his schemes fall flat and he poses no threat to you throughout the game. I would've liked him having a more brutal death, something akin to the Kai Leng interruption.

I had the same feeling with Ashley, she didnt have that many moments with the crew and she was away for over half of the game. And no matter what i try i haven't been able to get a drink with her and wake up hammered next to Aria.:crying:

I don't. I really wanted to see him as you christened him "big chessmaster magnificent bastard" who shows you only what you have to see. Till the last moment I hoped that all videos on Cerberus base were "staged" and there will be Normandy hack, EDI hack, or something like that. Not because I wanted to fight EDI or lose Normandy, just because "you saw only what you I need you to saw".
And Kai Leng, by the way, brought no emotions. Zero. Null. Maybe a little bit annoyance, like that gnat buzzing over your ear when you trying to sleep. But nothing more.

I'm teetotaller, so drinking is not appealing to me, even in games.
Hm. Maybe I should yell about that loud enough and demand "no drinking" option in future games? There are scenes where you cannot refuse to drink.

Regardless, I hate what they've done to characters. Not sure about speculations, but bad writing is everywhere.

Too bad there are no mass relays, I'd send you stack. Last time I check there were 34 left.

My guess - lack of time, lack of passion and lack of care. They had to finish game, no matter what the cost, so they cut every possible bit and piece they could.

Of course, maybe Ash still suffers from all she's been through and "need some time alone" (drinking may hints on that). If this is how they pulled "she is under pressure card" instead of friendly talk with crew - well, "see reverse".

It makes me think Ash still has issues with the aliens Shepard as on the Normandy.  She did seem to care about Liara after Thessia.

Actually after Thessia if you go talk to Ash she'll ask Shepard how Liara is doing and says that she will talk with her about it.

Also Tali was drunk, Ash was hungover.

Tali and Garrus talked about that too, but generally lend this privelege to Shep. Should she really wanted to talk she'd stand up and went there.

If my experience of observing drunk people in my normal life as well as back in LE told me that before hangover she was drunk. Image IPB

I just wanted a fight with him.:crying:

As for Kai Leng, he only has what? Ten lines of dialogue, a complete waste of a great voice actor.

Adding on to that:
-Garrus once to the bridge (trading jokes with Joker)
-Javik once to the AI core (argument with ship EDI)
-Tali once to the main battery (Team Dextro romance)
