Shepard: Having a few sentimental thoughts, Ash?
Ashley: Yeah. You could call it that. I grew up here... it's hard to see my old home like this. I mean, I know that this is nothing compare to Earth, but -
Shepard: But - this place is important to you. I daresay it's almost as important to you as Earth is.
Ashley: It is. Remember I told you back on the Citadel.
Shepard: About waving to the ships flying overhead? I'm not ashamed to admit when I was growing up. When I first met my dad. He'd always take me to the obs deck. About five or six, I used to wave down at the planets, thinking everyone below could see me and I was thoroughly convinced that they were waving back.
Ashley: *laughing sadly* I'd be lying if I said I could imagine that. I can't imagine you as a kid.
Shepard: You should talk to my mother, she's got stacks and stacks of photos back when I was a kid. Hell, after this damned war. I'll break 'em out myself.
Ashley: Embarassing ones?
Shepard: Embarassing, cute, photos of my first hockey finals back when I was thirteen.
Ashley: Oh yeah? Who won?
Shepard: We did, by accident. Foot got in the way of a stick when someone was about to do a slapshot while I was trying to tackle him, then the end-game buzzer went. Ended up with a limp for about a month. Was still black for about two afterwards. Timing was good but, the injury sucked. Fridge Brilliance at it's finest I guess.
Ashley: I suppose it is. What nickname did you get? 'Sir Limp'? 'Hop-a-long'?
Shepard: I can't remember off the top of my head. It was nineteen years ago... and that feels horrible when I say it like that. Makes me feel very old. Don't like it.
Ashley: We're not young soliders anymore Shepard.
Shepard: Please, don't remind me. This war has aged me a few dozen years.
Ashley: It's aged all of us, and wisened up a few more.
Shepard: You're right.
Ashley: *sigh, Looking over the landscape* I wanna come back here, after the war. Help rebuild it. Amateratsu may have been a small colony, but it was my home for the longest time. And there's a lot of memories here. My father's here too. The cemetary is a smoking crater, but I'll get a new headstone. Make sure it lasts this time.
Shepard: Sounds great, Ash.
Ashley: What about you? What are you going to do after this war?
Shepard: Retire, definately. Find that special someone I can settle down with. Write a few memoirs and live off the royalties from the vids. Maybe visit Garrus or Vega on occasion and drink the two bastards under the table. I don't care what anyone say, I can take him.
Ashley: Got any ideas for 'That special someone', skipper?
Shepard: One in particular has leapt to mind. Gorgeous, headstrong woman much like yourself. Easy on the eyes and not shy at all about what she wants. She can drill anything in between the eyes with her Widow, and isn't ashamed to show off a sensitive side every now and then.
Ashley: Now then, I wonder who that could be.
Shepard: I wonder.
