Not exactly sure how etiquette goes on this thread so forgive me if I'm wrangling the conversation in a different direction.

I wanted to share my thoughts on the final moments with Ashley in ME3.

As a small preface, I only completed the game once, as I can't bring myself to go through it again right now.

Anyways, that last conversation. I don't remember much, but what I do hit me like a kick to the chest. Ashley's statement, "I don't want you to go...". is when it really sunk in for me; "This is it" (spoilers be damned).
The delivery of that line felt really authentic. I heard the trembling in her voice. Much to the credit of Ash's voice actress, Kimberly Brooks.

"God**** it", I thought. "There's not going to be any resolution to this. This IS the resolution."
- No "victory dance" ala "Independence Day".
- No retirement.
- No wedding.
- No kids.
- No future.

While that may be all fine & good for reality, as that **** happens every day, it sure as hell didn't seem fair for Ash specifically. She lost her love once. She was with him just moments before he died. Now she must relegate herself to the fact that "Death closes all..." AGAIN.

Pretty unnecessarily cruel, if you ask me.

See in my mind, Shepard's been writing a dissertation on Shanxi ever since the first game to propose to the Alliance brass exactly why General Williams deserves a posthumous Star of Terra for surrendering in order to save starving civilians, which in of itself is a honourable thing to do and something that should never have caused him and his family to be blacklisted.

Except, Shepard's first draft was on the Normandy when it exploded and they had nearly finished their second draft when they had to leave it behind after the Reapers hit Earth.

In-canon, while she clearly deserves it, does anyone else find it strange Shepard is surprised she's been promoted, but doesn't seem at all surprised she was shortlisted to become a Spectre?

Does anyone else think during Shepard's time in house arrest, Hackett and Anderson discussed Ashley's potential candidacy with them? I can imagine that after everything Shepard has pulled over the last 3 years, they might need them to play "Harkin" for a while in order to show that humanity can have Spectres who aren't so much trouble. Something I've been pondering in my latest playthrough.

Hey, guys. I'm posting for a writer of some alternate endings for ME3, and he's trying to work on some character resolution for good old Ashley, but neither I nor him ever had a lot of experience with the character of Ashley.

Could someone here post what you like about Ashley Williams, what moments were pivotal for you, and how you expected the Shepard-Ashley character relationship to end in ME3 (but persumably didn't since there was no post-ending character resoltion.)

Basically why Ashley is so important to you ::)

Thanks!

P.S. You can find his current endings in this thread, (new "Ashley" material not yet included of course)
social.bioware.com/forum/1/topic/355/index/10966771

EDIT: Edited to actually include the link to the endings ::P

Okay. Where to start? There are numerous things I love of Ashley's character. Hmm, let's answer your questions, shall I?

First of all: you may ask an additional writer that has experience with Ashley (or any other character you don't know good enough). We saw what's going to happen with a character if a writer did a half-assed job: either the character ended sidelined or murdered. In Ashley's case it seems as if the writer had an idea how to write down a romance but didn't know anything else about Ash.
To prevent this, it's a good idea to do some research - or invite additional writers for that portion.

Let's face it: Ashley has several interesting scenes. Most important to me are:

- Build up scenes of romance in ME1
- Ashley's emotional support scene in ME1 when the Normandy got grounded
- Ashley's romance climax scene in ME1
- don't beat me: the argument on Horizon
- Mars mission in ME3
- All (!) of the Hospital scenes
- Udina's plot
- Memorial
- The date
- The roomance climax scene in ME3

Basically most of the scenes that somehow showed development and much of Ashley's character. ME1 had the better build up series of scenes while ME3 concentrated more on a "love in war". The hospital scenes can be considered as build up scenes.
Also in ME1 you can find several "golden moments", especially in the first half before Virmire. Just try to play the missions with Kaidan and Ashley and you might realize why we like her that much: she has some really great friendship / comradeship moments here.

So it's a good idea to review the scenes on youtube or do a playthrough.

In the end I simply want Ashley finding Shepard in the rubble of London. She holds him until the paramedics arrive - fating out. Next scene should be several months later: not only the player learns how everything has changed but may also have an interactitve part in the epilogue: there Shepard might decide what kind of future he has in mind with his LI (Ashley in our case) - the "future talk", so to speak. Proposal? Maybe. Ash pregnant? No, not yet - that's headcanon only. Thinking about resigning, settling down? Maybe.

In short: some input for the fans what Ash & Shep might do after the war.

Personal impression
It has been stated before: Ashley feels real. In fact, she and Kaidan seems to be the most authentic characters in the game since they simply don't come with any overshadowing flaws or features.
Ashley is a grunt, an ordinary soldier, a bit tomboyish, distrustful and hostile towards those she can't stand or doesn't trust. However, she understands the concept of corporation and is willing to put her qualms aside. In the end, she learned to trust the aliens on board of the Normandy and lost her distrustful attitude; of course, never disappoint her, never betray her!
Shepard's business with Cerberus definitely the mutual trustfulness between both characters - and that's another authentic trait of Ashley: she's a soldier and when her ex-CO shows up in the colors of a terrorist organization, how can she trust him anymore?

That issue seems to be an overshadowing feature of Ashley in the first half of ME3 but vanishes after the Udina threat. Although I dislike the lack of content for Ash in that second half, her romance feels really good and well developed. She's a passionate person, fully confident of her sexuality and she takes what she wants. Straight forward, sexy, tempting in any possible way. And of course: she acts like an equal partner. That's an incredible tempting thought - Ash is fully emancipated without going down the "whiny route" of feminists.

In short: Ash is sexy in any possible way - she's challenging, she's attractive and knows exactly what she wants. And she can be a great friend too. Comrade, friend and lover? Try to destroy that kind of connection ... you can't.

If I muster up the gumption to give ME3 another run, and IF the EC doesn't cut it for me, once Ashley utters those words again, "I don't want you to go..." I'm turning off the game & *engage head canon* "I'm not going anywhere, Ash. I'm not letting you out of my sight. Whatever we do, we do it together." & some other ****.

Okay, reconsidering..

She's your down to earth buddy.
Who just also happens to be your girlfriend.

Closer?

At least for me that hits it pretty much...plus the hole romantic issue feels right. (but then again this is ONLY me! there is at least one Ashleymancer who lives in my timezone and he's sleeping right now (you better would be data, i 'm still studiying but you have to work :) ), who might have another impression. And then there's Aurorora an Badpie and so many other people, which made this thread alive.

My Point being you will not find one answer but many which might coincide with my impression/opinion/experience. :)

I think the only absolute consensus in this thread is that there is NOT enough ASh in ME3. ;)

Edit: could the next one who posts, post a top Ash for me please? Posting visible pictures in Forums is an enigma to me and every single picture of Ash I have on my HD, stems from this thread. :?

I was sleeping, yeah. And I wrote down my impression of Ash

This is off-topic! I appologize:
TNS whenever you're talking about pancakes: are we talking about the
same thing ? Because as an euopean I consider pancakes to be similiar to
crêpes (or pfannkuchen, palatschinken, whatever). Or do you mean the
american smaller but thicker version ?

Guess he's talking about the american version: thicker, smaller, in stacks and with maple syrup.

"Pfannkuchen"? You know in some regions of Germany "Pfannkuchen" are "Berliner" (jelly filled donuts) and such ... yes, Germans are weird. ^^

Not to bag on Ash (or Kaidan, for that matter), but I think Udina had a lot to do with her Spectre position, not necessarily her merit. I believe Garrus to be a more competent leader & soldier and he was refused entry to the Spectres. As was Admiral Anderson.

Not in a printed or written down form, but yeah, I have a really detailled headcanon for Ashley and Shepard for the series and beyond. Including the OBMR drive of the SSV Williams I mentioned a few pages earlier. :police:

I keep it realistic, buddy :police:

For example, my Ashley is a caffeine addict. She loves watching old SciFi series, writes (bad) poetry, enjoys reading old fashioned books and had bad experiences with guys before (couldn't keep 'em on the long run).

My headcanon Ash.
- Coffee drinker
- Guinneas drinker (Shepard's influence, was hesistant but turns out she really likes it)
- Lovable big sister/aunt
- Loves to tease about Shepard's tattoos (particularly his re-made celtic band with her intials on it)
- Likes rock-climbing and jogging.
- Very active sports kid.
- Reads Tennyson, but dislikes The Divine Comedy (Shepard's working on that)
- A closet Monty Python, Mel Brooks and old SciFi nerd.
- She also prays every one or two nights. Shepard isn't religious but he occasionally joins her.
