Blowing banshees brains doesn't help much. Better perforate their bosom or belly.

I do just take the Ashely way of unloading everything I have into them but thought there must be a more thermal clip saving way.

Technically, they are vulnerable to Warp & Armor piercing ammo. Use that + Biotics - but don't bring Liara. I had her in the final mission - and I wasted most of my Medigels to keep her alive, while Ashley took one beating after another and still was fighting

Liara and Tali always go down but I never have to revive Ash or Garrus. Weird.

Even if I put them in cover they still go down. I remember doing the geth dreadnought on insanity & Tali was just terrible. lol

You're making me doubt myself now! 

If I'm remembering this right, there is no damage multiplier on any particular part of the body, so it is best to aim at the easiest target. 
I usually lob grenades at them once the barrier is down. I love grenades; little explosive bundles of love. 

Has anyone tried using Ash's inferno grenades? Are they any good? I've never actually used them!

Yeah, but bringing Ash, Vega or Garrus in one squad doesn't help much against Banshees if you're not a biotic. I had to learn that the hard way. Liara has a paper armor - she's dying really often. Ash feels like Ash in combat - no matter what you throw at her, she stays alive. In ME1 she saved my life more than once while everyone else (including Wrex!) got taken out earlier. So yeah, I think Ash is the perfect meat shield and/or distraction on the field. Garrus is good, but dies frequently for me - besides that, why in heaven do you need Garrus (Sniper), Ashley (Sniper) and an Infiltrator (Sniper) in one squad ^^

People were saying that the ones you bring with you end up dying and so don't leave the Normandy in the last scene, but I had brought Garrus and Ash with me and Ash came out of the Normandy, much to my relief cause she wasn't dead...but raised the question why she was there in the first place.

nope, doesn't matter unless you have low ems and you see them die at beam, they will come out of normandy.

I didn't think mine was very high cause I didn't play any mulitplayer and again I hear you can't get high enough EMS without multiplayer, but if Ash came out the Normandy with Joker and Vega I'm happy enough, as long as Vega doesn't make a move on my woman!!!

If your ems is low enough, you will see your two squadmates that charged with you at them beam dead on the ground. sadly i rushed my first play threw and saw Ashley lying dead, it was the saddest moment in gaming's for me.

I had the press the darth vader NOOOOOOO button so many times.

There was one posted yesterday somewhere on here where Ash bascially says see you in hell. Just terrible.
