One of the first things people who don't like Ashley always say is about her being 'racist' but as you said if you just talk and get involved with the character it becomes pretty obvious she isn't. I also agree with yu that i don't think any other relationship is as well done as Shepard and Ashleys, it's brilliant even though a bit lacking in ME3 but thats not the characters fault

Yes, about her content. There is noting wrong but it's not enough. Well, I think there is nothing more to say about that, this question alredy was discussed too many times.
But I have to say, there is only on side of Ashley that I don't like. She hates politicians. I understand that politics is a durty thing but someone need to do this job. Honestly, I liked Udina, but he became a traitor, that was sad.

Oh I hated Udina immediatly, glad Anderson punched him and he got what was coming to him. It's a very human thing to not like politicians and so I imagine that dislike for them would continue on in the future. But she was willing to pull a gun on Shepard to save Udina at first and she is very loyal to the Alliance so maybe she doesn't hate politicians as much as you think

Yes, I think you right. But politicians in Mass Effect evrytime worked for interests of theyre people, including Udina.

I never saw any reason to hate Udina either, he was just doing his job after all. I understand you could hate him, but I find it a shame he was antagonized too, it wasn't really necessary or well-explained.

Hello everybody!
So I've been reading for this thread at least... one month, I think. Well, what to say about me, I just another fan of Mass Effect from first part and ect. and ect. I suppose you heard storys like that thousand times already.
Well, what I think about Ash? I see that she is the one of the difficultest character in Mass Effect story. When I first saw her on Eden Prime she didn't impress me. But when the story started to develop I admitted that she is pretty amusing. And then comes this dialoge where Ashley says that she don't trust aliens. After this I started to think that Ash is a racist. This was pretty unpleasant for me, but it didn't stop my wish to understand that character. After all what i read and saw i undertand that she isn't racist at all. In Mass Effect 3 happens evrething that she warned about. What about Shepard/Ashley... I think Williams is the best possible woman for our dear galactic hero.Image IPB (I'm a Sheploo fan) Liara, Tali and many others are good too, but the most beautiful and interesting story happens between this two spectres. How they reading Thenisson to each other, what happens on Mars, theyre jokes and emotional moments... That's what make Mass Effect story so heart touching, epic and very interesting.
And yes, I suppose I should thank you all in this thread for nice discussions and great dialogs. They giving me so much good emotions, and this was very helpful for me after I saw the ending... And about ending, I like the conception of endings, but I hate how the creators make that.

Well played Sir.

You pretty much described the many layers of Ashley's character. She doesn't look too impressive at the beginning and her character has some edges you need to take. But once you know more about her, she starts growing on you. Not just like a friend. More. Like someone you -really- can trust and respect - both is needed for a love.

Ash comes with so many qualities I love in ANY woman.

Don't get it, why ppl call her "b*tchy" - she's not. Ash just speaks her mind. Usually her opinions don't hit below the belt. Usually she's not blaming Shepard for emotional stuff. Ash is more like a really close friend that won't leave you until the bitter end, as long as you earned respect and trust. Well, that's why Ash was pretty much distrustful in ME2 and ME3, but once that issue got solved, she's the most passionate and trustworthy friend you can have.

Too bad, the game doesn't display too much of it. The romance scenes are just not enough. The romance climax scene and the goodbye scene are two of the most powerful scenes for Ashley in the entire series and show the -real- Ashley. The Ash we admire and love.

You're right, Data. Passion for the writing was there overall but for specific elements (read Ashley) it was non-existent. That is what separates the work posted here from the game; people care.

The story and dialogue here are way better than the game. I have a few ideas that i wanted to post but i dont think i can as good as some of you guys here like dahellraiderCptData and many others

Don't let it scare you away from posting though, from personal experience: you don't really know how capable you are until you've posted and without getting it out there it's hard to improve. Not saying you have to post it, but please don't hold off just because you're afraid it might not be on the same level as the stuff of others. [smilie]http://social.bioware.com/images/forum/emoticons/wink.png[/smilie]

Yes, Ash is difficult character and that makes her very interesting. So, let's keep our hopes for future DLC, where we will see something new. Image IPB

@Data; I guess they call het b*tchy because the nasty comments make a lot of impact on you. Like the one about Liara's sex life, especially if you like Liara, you'll remember this and then ofcourse it grows out of proportion because people have such fun with stereotyping...<_<

And talking about the content that lacked, I think there was plenty of romance content, just not enough normal conversations, not enough talk about where she's been for two years what she done. Not enough of what any Shepard that is friendly with her would ask.

Honestly, I don't think that Liara's dialogs in ME1 so interesting like Ash's. Liara usualy talks only about Shepard...

Why can't you have a scene similar to Garrus' shooting contest with Ash, we all know she would REALLY want to beat Shepard at it. And then ofc ..you would need a prize *end thought*

Exactly.

A short analysis:

Romance content: 8/10
---------------------------------------
Her romance is well done. Period. The scenes Ash got are well done and feel real. Shepard talking to Ash in the hospital is touching and the moments they share later are well done. The most powerful moments are the romantic climax scene and the farewell scene before the final battle. Ash cares deeply for Shepard and don't want to lose him again.

Actually, the reason why I didn't give a 10/10 is caused by two really big issues:
- the lack of interaction for large portions of the game BETWEEN those romantic scenes
- the lack of romantic comfort

Friendship content 3/10
---------------------------------------
Let's face it. The best mission with Ash is the Mars mission. Ash & Shep are comrades here, friends, but no full blown lovers (although there is at least one dialogue with a romantic undertone). Once you made it through and don't romance Ash (or even if you did), the content for a friendship with Ash is very limited.
Ash was a great "sister in arms" for a female Shepard in ME1 but lacks the same amount of friendship in ME3. There's no real reason for keeping her on board. For RP reasons she lacks content. And for combat reasons she comes with a quite obsolete class: Garrus is a capable sniper and Vega is a better tank.

So the big issues are:
- lack of any friendly interaction outside / instead of a romance
- lack of any interactions with the crew
- she almost got "Allers treatment" - you easily can ignore her without missing something

Other content 2/10
---------------------------------------
Well. 2/10 speaks a lot, right? In short: there's no content outside the romance arc and the few friendly lines. Ashley has a lot of good lines in the Mars Mission and -felt- like the Ash from ME1. However, she has little to no lines for most other missions. Big exception is the mission in the Cerberus HQ - at least there she got some dialogue too. Besides that, Ashley is too quite for being Ashley.

Voice Actor Kimberly Brooks 9/10
---------------------------------------
Hands down. She's the best. She's Ashley's voice. She makes Ash sounding sexy, tempting and draw me to her in a way I can only imagine for a -real- woman.
I think Kimberly did a far better job than several of the other VAs, including Mark Meer and Ali Hillis. Last one has a pretty voice but lacks emotions. Meer seems to miss fitting emotions sometimes. Kimberly always hits the right emotion at the right time. She's not overacting and created a wonderful illusion of Ashley - she nearly feels like a real person.

Lets put things together:

Romance (30%) 8/10
Friendship (30%) 3/10
Other (20%) 2/10
Voice Actor (20%) 9/10
======================================
Display of Ashley Williams in ME3: 5.5/10

With a bit more effort in "Friendship" and "Other", Ash could have been displayed far better in ME3.

What present I would give to Ash? Don't know, but I'd like to see how Shepard wold give her as a present high boots, because he remembers conversation with Ashley and Kaiden in first part. Image IPB
Or space cat, if Shepard  not allergic to cats.

@Data; That's a good analysis I'd say! From an objective view (for as far as that's possible) I agree except for maybe a marginal difference, from a purely subjective view I'd rate her 'performance' higher. Probably something like a 7 if I had to give it a number, all the content we got was good and sometimes great, but at the same time it wasn't enough and a lot of it was forgettable forgettable.

@Johnny; I think Ashley doesn't attach to objects too much and would rather like an eventful day filled with good memories, but I'm not really sure what exactly.

@CptData, I'd agree I think Kimberly Brooks does maybe the best job in the whole game at voice acting and the emotions used, especially in the hopsital, romance and farewell scenes. Her voice acting definately added a great deal to the experience. As you also say there is just some content missing and it is a pity cause the game and the character could have been even greater

Kimberly Brooks really made great work. I must say, that in all parts of Mass Effect was great actors. Voice of Anderson, Hakett, Udina, Garrus, Liara and many more just so great! But for me the best is Martin Sheen, I already knowed him as a good actor. My favorite movie with him is "Apocalypse Now", there was shown the real face of war. But there is one interesting fact in this movie. There was a scene where character of Martin Sheen dancing drunk in front of mirror. Producer wanted him to be realistic and he forced Martin to gets really drunk. (: That's what I call "real actor".
Back to Mass Effect. I wanted to say, that actors maked a real great job because they have talent and made theyre work with love and soul, they inspired life into characters. This is another reason why I'm a Mass Effect fan.
