While I agree with the point presented with the blogpost, I have to ask; what would be the point of showing this to more people?
To show Ashley wasn't throwing allegations without good reasons.
The Normandy SR1 was cutting edge technology developed by the Turians and the Alliance. Do you really want people on board who might steal some of its tech? Especially the stealth tech was "top secret" - I doubt the Turians know all about it, since no Turian stealth ship was shown in the game.
Ash would have said something similar if Shepard had accepted a Batarian as squadmember. Wait ... no. She would beat him up.
That Ashley, being right, makes Tali a bad person for acquiring the stealth tech, who is a far lesser threat than the likes of Cerberus, whom already has it?
Nope.
Tali is no bad person. Remember what's said about her society? They don't have real "private property". The Quarians are kinda "space socialists". That doesn't mean they don't have a concept for secrecy, however, maybe that's the reason why Tali took the intel.
I know I'm missing something here. Could someone please enlighten me.
i did.
If it's along the lines of Ash, not only being a more accepting individual of other species, but a better person than people think, then it's an idea I can get behind. I like Ash.
Well, Ashley is no racist / specist / xenophobe - she simply doesn't trust people she does not know. That's all.
In case of Wrex it makes sense. Krogans don't have a positive reputation. It's up to the player to help the Krogans, but at the beginning of ME1, Krogans weren't seen as victims but as people who got what they deserved.
Liara - well. Every woman would feel intimidated by a woman-like species that basically never really ages AND doesn't know the word "ugly". Plus it doesn't help Liara was the daughter of the second in command of Saren.
Garrus - he's the face of the species that made her grandfather to surrender on Shanxi - and tainted her family's name. That's the only and ONLY prejudice I can make out so far.
Tali - out of the bunch, she's the one Ashley does not mind. However, Ashley's generic picture, her entire view on the things about "dog and bear", "not trusting easily" etc turned out to be right in the end. That's one of the reasons why I love Ash - she keeps my a bit naive paragon Shepard attached to reality. Without her, he would do some stupid things like trusting the wrong guys. *cough* Cerberus *cough*
