There's something I'd like to see... more dialouge encouraging Ash to leave the damn lounge so she can spend time with Shepard and the rest of the squad, like the good old days.

It would be really interesting to see someone other than Shepard encouraging her to get out more. Like, say, Garrus, who does say he's happy to have her back on the squad.

I wrote this in response, I know it is quite short and sort of jumps straight into the issue but it fits for me but don't know if you'll feel the same way:

Ashley is sitting in the observation deck staring out into space when the door opens and Garrus walks in

Ashley: Shepard, back again to check up on me
Garrus: Not this time
Ashley turns round quickly and smiles
Ashley: Garrus, I’m sorry it’s usually only Shepard who comes by
Garrus: I know and it seems like you never come out of here Williams
Ashley: I like the peace and staring out into space
Garrus: Come on Williams, on the old Normandy you were always cleaning those guns but at least you were out and about, you just seem to lock yourself away in here so no one can talk to you
Ashley: I have a lot of things going on in my life Garrus; I need lots of time to think
Garrus: You know what you humans say ‘a problem shared is a problem halved’ now tell me the real problem
Ashley: Fine…look, most of this crew, including yourself, were with Shepard when he took on the collectors, I met him on Horizon and didn’t come with him after and I just feel like you all have this history, these great inside stories with each other while I’m an outsider.
Garrus: Williams you had a job to do, everyone knows and accepts that, everyone also knows how big a part you played in stopping Saren and saving the Citadel they are all fascinated by you and the stories about you.
Ashley: I know I was a part of the old crew but now I feel like I’ve missed so much and it feels like starting a new school or something, I’m the new girl
Garrus: Cortez, Vega and Traynor are newer additions than you are but they don’t hide themselves away
Ashley: Garrus…
Garrus: Look Williams, you were and are a vital part of this crew. We’ve all been through so much together, at this time when we are forced to watch old friends being killed in the attempts to stop the Reapers I find it really helps to have people to talk to and you won’t find a better group of people than on this ship
Ashley: I don’t know Garrus I still feel like I don’t fully belong
Garrus: Well Williams you are a funny, smart, fascinating person, even for a human, and I know that everyone on the crew would love to see and hear more of you. If you ever need to talk we are ALL here for you.
Ashley: Thanks Garrus, I’ll try and make a bit more of an effort
Garrus smiled: Not too much though, the last thing we all need to is to get lost in time listening to the first two human Spectres waffling on all day
Ashley laughed: I’ll try and make sure we still have some time to kill a few Reapers
Garrus continued smiling: Sounds great Williams

He worked for a terrorist organization. In the end it worked out, but I actually lost some respect for Shepard myself over that. He was also being detained for, you know - destroying an entire star system. Those two combined had to look awfully bad for someone who wasn't with Shepard at the time.

As for Ash not visiting Shepard... I can understand that as well. Sometimes we want to do things, but we're not sure what to say or how to go about it. Again, given why Shepard had been relieved of command, I'm sure Ash had a lot of doubts about him, and was just afraid of the pain that visiting him would dredge up. It makes sense to me.

It also makes Ash Ash. I don't want Ash to be someone who blindly follows Shepard. Neither does Edwin Shepard. Edwin Shepard fell in love with a woman who was willing to question him. He understands that he has to work to regain her trust. Hell, in a way, he wants to have to work for it. Anything worth having you have to work for.

No you're not the only one, but I have a feeling we're in the minority. I thought it was perfectly in character. Her background dictates she'd question. I loved it. I thought she was the only one who made sense in ME2. She's the only person who seems genuinely surprised to see Shepard alive and is the only one to make any keen observation on Cerberus' motives and pick up on their manipulation of Shepard. She challenges him in a way no other character does. Tali and Garrus have a few doubts, but they push it aside so easily or cover it with this attitude of Cerbeurs isn't going to get the better of us when they alread have. TIM has you playing his game. He's pulling your strings. He's the information giver. His truth is the truth. Case closed. Ash refuses to buy into that.

Shepard comes off as incredibly naive on Horizon and the things after look suspect to the outsider. And I agree, I can understand Ash not knowing how to approach a vist in lock down. She'd have a thousand questions but I don't think she wants to rehash Horizon.

And I don't like how Shepard is so easily offened on Mars at the mention of his Cerberus stint. "How can you compare me to that thing?"  Really? You don't know what Cerberus did. You didn't even ask anyone for specifics. And if you're renegade your eyes glow red. That remark just sounds incredibly thin skinned.

I'll throw my Ash/Garrus dialogues in as well.

Ash and Garrus 1 - Lighthearted conversation.

Ash and Garrus 2 - Serious discussion.

I already said, that Shepard/Ashley relationships is the most interesting in game. One problem, it's not enough.

Well, I didn't talk to her today. I did before.
So. I had a beautiful afternoon with my fiancee and any of the issues were gone. I hope it stays that way ;)
Wonder if Ash is proud of me - I didn't allow anything bad happen. Good boy.

Back to Ash.

Same here. That was probably the best part of her role in ME3, they took their time to resolve things and when Ashley finally says "Screw them, you're you." (paraphrasing what she says in the cerberus base.) it's actually meaningful and powerful. Ashley is indeed not one to sit in a corner and be quiet about it, if she's not convinced she's going to keep bugging you about it until she has a satisfactory answer. Shepard can't give one.

I think it's good she questions Shepard, it keeps him/her on his or her toes. With no-one around to question you it's easy to become to careless. On the other hand it's also frutrating for Shepard since he obviously doesn't have the answer, and therefore can't say anything right to Ash. It's a subtler or maybe complexer sort of drama then most of the drama we get in ME3, I'm a fan of that. I was constantly wondering whether she trusted Shepard more than she was showing, but that she didn't know how to let him know. It was afterall really Cerberus she was blaming and deeply distrustful of.

Yeah, she keeps Shepard honest about things. This sort of drama can be more interesting than plot driven drama and I wish they'd gone more in depth with the root of Ash's distrust and embrace the back-and-forth - the snap, crackle, and pop of their dynamic post Cerberus.

I believe in her heart of hearts she did trust him. She did believe him when he says his intent was pure and altruistic. However, there's just too much that doesn't quite fit from her perspective - from a distance - from her educated guess - and she can't remain doubt free.

I can't bring myself to a full femshep playthrough, I don't know what it is but...yea. It's harder to get into it I guess.

Maybe it's because I'm too manly.

I guess going more in depth might've been to much for the people who aren't looking for the psychological drama, in the sense that it'd become off-putting. They've struck a nice balance, giving something that's thought provoking, if you want it to be. Although granted it can feel like a bit of tease.

I concur, it's interesting, because it seems like she struggles to bring that across to Shepard on Mars at least. I imagine she really wanted to tell him "I believe you, I  do trust you", but rationally she couldn't bring herself to it. I wonder actually is Ashley more a person of rational or more a person of emotion. She can react quite emotionally, but also often has a rationale behind her reaction. Maybe she bases her rationale off of her emotions? Not sure.

Well ... I was like this ...

Shepard: James ...
Vega: Hey Loco. Everything alright? My fists feel ready for another dance.
Shepard: Sure, bring it on.
Vega: Well ... *gets in fighting position* ... your turn, Loco.
Shepard: *offensive style* With age comes wisdom ... *right punch, missing* ... thought you learned that lesson last time.
Vega: *dodges* I did ... *advancing towards Shepard*
Shepard: So? You missed the point, Lieutenant ... *dodges a punch*
Vega: Which point? *lowering fists for a second*
Shepard: *doesn't place a hit* ... how to read people ...
Vega: What? *defensive position*
Shepard: You and Ashley ... drinking session. *full doublefist attack*
Vega: *shrugs off attack* Oh that. It was nothing. Pep talk - you know?
Shepard: Getting Ashley drunk? That was hardly a pep talk *right fist scores a hit*
Vega: Jealous, Loco? *deflecting another fist* ... it was nothing.
Shepard: *defensive style* ... fine. Next time let me do the pep talk to her.
Vega: *advances* ... what if I want her?
Shepard: Regulations ... *places another hit*
Vega: *shrugs off hit* ... she's a Spectre. Regulations don't matter anymore. *places hit on Shepard, knocking him down*
Shepard: *glares at Vega* ... you better keep your hands off her ... *still lies on floor*
Vega: *smirks* ... you lost this round, Loco. *reaches hand*
Shepard: You should know me better, James ... *shoves Vega's feet so he falls on the ground* ... I never play by the rules. *gets up*
Vega: *hits ground* ... neither I do.
Shepard: *dodges Vega's strike against the feet* ... yeah. But I know the game. Dance's over.
Vega: Sure?
Shepard: Absolutely. Get up, James.
Vega: Fine. You beat me - again. So you care for the LC, right?
Shepard: I used to. We ... had something before I died. I want that something back.
Vega: You're a lucky man, Loco. She wants the same. She didn't give me the pep talk. Was me.
Shepard: Yeah?
Vega: Yeah. Ashley just needed to talk to someone. About her confused feelings, all that stuff. And I was the only one with a bottle of Tequila. Booze from good ol' Earth. Well ... that's the story.
Shepard: It's okay, James.
Vega: One more thing, Shepard: don't leave her again. She can't take another time without you. And ... next time she needs someone to talk, be there.
Shepard: I'll keep that in mind. Thanks for the dance.
Vega: Always.

That was awesome! Thanks for sharing it! I feel like you really captured how they'd both talk, and how they'd interact with each other.

Wish I could write dialouge that well. It's strange, I wrote so many of those CDN articles at the Cerberus Daily News fan site, and felt I was pretty good at those. Dialouge, though... I just suck at dialouge.

You know what I like best about that dialouge, though? The irony of "calibrations" telling someone else to be more social. It's actually something that hit me earlier today.

Ash: I don't know, Garrus. Shepard was in here the other day, and he complained that on the mission against the Collectors, you were always too busy calibrating the Normandy's guns to talk to him...

@Data: Really enjoyed your Shepard/Vega dialouge, as well. Yeah, I kinda wanted to go after him and ask him what the hell he was doing getting Ashley drunk.
