Might have used his position to help funnel resources to TIM and turn Cerberus into what it eventually became. Establishing a role for Gen Williams in TIM's rise to power would make for an interesting series of conversations with Ash when she finds out.

For Kaidan, they should have also illuminated Cerberus' role in the destruction of those eezo transports over human worlds. I think it's implied (or outright stated somewhere) that TIM had a hand in that to help create human biotics, isn't it?

Maybe but I doubt he would've been able to do much. After being brought back to Earth in irons and demoted I don't think he'd have much power over anything. And he quit after a year. Worked contruction in the colonies the rest of his life - working construction along the frontier he tried his best to make way for in uniform. Doesn't sound like he was trying to make use of his new position IMO. It just sounds like he wanted to fight for the frontier in a tangible way. Young Jack Harper sounds like the man with resolve to work in the shadows.

I posted this in the ME1 boards the other day, but they don't get a lot of traffic. I don't think its very relevant to the General ME3 section, so I thought I'd post it here as well as the Kaidan thread.

So I bought the PC version of Mass Effect the other day so that I have something to fart around with on my laptop while I'm away from home. Out of curiosity I started to dig through the game files and found some interesting sound bits in the nor20_virmire_done.isb file. Apparently, at one point they were considering making it possible to save both Kaidan and Ashley on Virmire. Here are the transcripts of the sound files.

Ash: "Thanks Commander. Things got pretty hot down there. You saved my life."
Kaidan: "Both our lives. I don't know how you did it Commander. The Alliance'll come up with a whole new medal for what you pulled off here."
Ash: "If they don't court marshall you. You endangered the entire mission. Why didn't you just leave one of us behind?"
Shepard: "No one gets left behind. Not while I'm in charge."
Kaidan: "We might have tried Commander, but I don't think either one of us could have pulled this off."
Kaidan: "Anyone else. I'd say they got lucky."
Ash: "Kaidan's right. Nobody else could make a stunt like that work. But anyone else in charge and someone gets left behind...or the mission fails."

And here is a video slide show containing the audio files:

I thought it was kinda cool, but I'm glad they did it the way they did.

Well if i ever have enough money, or alcohol, and end up buying them I will make all sort of poses with them and show you

Janus, that sounds cool, I always thought it was surely possible to save both but as you say I like that what they did with that part of the game.

I hate that they made one of them dying mandatory. I hate taht if you do everything right in the Me trilogy the only squadmate you lose is Kaidan or Ashley. They should have kept the option to save both of them because in ME3 if either of them are unromanced on he Normandy they ould get together like Garrus and Tali do and that'd be awesome.

I think that might have worked, but there should have been a price - like maybe the STG team bites the dust or something.

I wish there were a way to continue all the way to ME3 with Ash and Kaidan, but it wouldn't seem right, somehow, to be able to do it without a price.

Makes me wonder how they would have handled Horizon in ME2 and ME3 in general if both could be alive. Which one would go to Horizon, and which one would you encounter elsewhere? Which one would you meet on Earth and Mars in ME3? Which one would become a Spectre?
