Gah... I'm listening to the ME3 soundtrack, and "I was Lost Without You" just came on.

DWH, Faunts M4 Pt 2, stuck with me ever since I first ever played Mass Effect, and since then when it plays I always think of Shepard and Ashley

I'm actually having another "bleh" day today as far as Mass Effect is concerned. I simply do NOT understand why people think there needs to be a mandatory depressing ending to something in order for it to be compelling.

Might as well close my role in this by posting my favorite:

*note - below is supposed to be bitter and sarcastic*
Because the story has always been about 'sacrifice', not earning a marginably happy personal ending for Shepard and love interest - god forbid that he actually gets it. I mean, he freaking died once. My thinks once is enough. And he wanted to come back for his LI for god's sake, if nothing else at least let Shepard peacefully die in their arms.

Stargate SG-1 should have ended with the entire team being killed. Including Jack O'Neill, even though had been in a desk job for years by that point.
Who cares if it wouldn't have felt like Stargate? Wouldn't it have been so REALISTIC and EDGY and COMPELLING?
Bah. Need more Ash

The crew standing there in varying degrees of injury after the final battle with the Reapers, witnessing the final execution of TIM. Maybe Shepard has a moment alone with him beforehand to answer the question whether or not he's the 'real' Shepard and they have a verbal joust. Shepard doesn't get any closer to an answer and decides that Ash's comment back at the Cerberus HQ 'I don't care what anyone says, you're you!' is enough for him and leaves him to his fate. Then afterwards, you get to roam around a bit, talking to crewmates and friends. Maybe announce retirement. Then finally before you leave after the execution, the LI - Ash here - comes with you and starts talking about the future, how uncertain it is and everything. Then Shepard brushes the concern off, stating that they may not know what'll happen, but it'll be fun to find out.

No - Stargate ended in a similar fashion to how I wanted ME3 to end.

I would have loved to have that ending for Mass Effect. It would have just fit better. I mean... look at the triumphant endings we get in ME1 and ME2 (especially if you pull off the suicide mission with everyone surviving). Then look at ME3. Which one of those three endings does not fit with the others?
(My Stargate comment was sarcastic, btw)

Especially since its only one ending with three different colour. Lord help the colour-blind.
Yeah. I wanted a triumphant return to Ash.
We don't need multiple colors when we have SPECULATIONS!!! especially when they are from everyone!
We mere mortals cannot comprehend Biowares "artistic vision" and "artistic integrity" that's why we are left with speculations and SPAAAAAAAAAAACE MAAAAAAAAAGIC!!!!!

I wish there was more Ashley in ME3
Yeah.
ME3 was still a good game in general, but no matter what Bioware says, it still has a "rushed" feeling to it.
Ashley is one area where that really shows. It's like, "we'll, we wrote excellent parts for her on Mars and the Citadel, now let's move on to other characters so we can get this done in time."
Another aspect of this - The Mars, krogan, and quarian/geth missions were the best in the game, while the others, while still good, felt like they were cut short. That makes me wonder if the former missions were worked out first, then time grew short and they had to rush through putting together the other missions.

That's exactly what I was thinking, sums up what I felt Mass Effect was about though...until the end of course
