Besides Ashley; Traynor, Miranda, and Garrus are my favorites.

It's hard for me to pick favorites, since I like them all.

I really  like Mordin and Thane (though I hardly ever use him in my squad in ME2). So ME3 was depressing in more ways than one.

I honestly liked that Thane was at Heurta Memorial, and said he'd keep an eye on Ash. That made me feel good. It's odd that Edwin Shepard, the paragon that he is, would become so attached to an assassin. But he really loved all those talks he had with Thane, and began to feel like he was a good friend. He liked the idea of Thane and Ash keeping each other company, and was happy that any time he went to Heurta to see Ash, he could also see Thane.

Kind of a similar situation with Mordin. Edwin Shepard has always abhorred the genophage, and was aghast when he found out about Mordin's work with it. But he thought about it, and decided he respected Mordin for being honest about it. Then he talked to him, brought him along on missions, and realized how awesome he was, and just started to develop a great friendship with him.

Seeing both of them die was hard. In my head canon, he even talks with Ash about it at some point, and tells her, "I wish you could have met Mordin."

EDIT: Top of the page Ash

Ash is beautiful!

I still wonder why the hospital has so many gifts to waste money on, If you in reality can only get Ashley the one gift.

Out of curiousity what happens if you buy Ashley anything else then Tennyson? Does it make much of an impact?

Nope, you give her nothing. The book is like the only thing she will take.

it's one of the things that made mass effect such a great game. the story of the characters and their relationship with you; how you've come to help them/change them and how they've helped/changed you. hearing their stories about their families, what it was like in their childhood, things that they regret in the past. the way bioware built the characters and turned them into people, instead of just a supporting cast to kill enemies, is the reason why it is hard for anyone to pick a favourite. and choosing then becomes a much more personal thing.

it's a grand achievement in my book if a videogame can become so close and personal to you. for all the short-comings that mass effect 3 had, there was still some good in it. the resounding effort that bioware would usually put into mass effect was still reflected in some convos in me3. but at times it ran flat. like meeting with jack again. i did not romance her in my me2 play through, but that reunion seemed so shallow for two people who were part of the crew that took down the collectors, while learning about each other and exhibiting their differences.

miranda's scene had good touches of dialogue, but i think it was spoilt by her decision to not join the normandy. after her father was dead, she decided to go all vigilante. it killed the mood for me. it seemed like she trusted me so much to come to me for help, but didnt really want to return the favour. it left a negative emotion on where miranda and my shepard stood. it's not like we were just on a normal mission. we were out to save the galaxy. and she knows her worth better than anyone. why not join???? the only reason i can recall her reluctance would be he alliance officials knowing her history with cerberus. but they already accepted ex-cerberus scientists as well...so really?

my main example would be ashley in this case. so much ashley and shepard has gone through, and so much they went through in this game, yet still their dialogues seemed small in number and far apart. misplaced/poorly timed as well. what happened to the great dialogues from me1? where did those writers go? ashley and shepard had so much to talk about/fight over/ reminesce and spend time with each other. i fully am aware of the situation that they are in. the entire galaxy was facing extinction. but wouldnt that just push human emotions even more (this is one of the ideas i had in mind when i wrote my 3779-word dialogue) i dont want a soap opera. no. i wanted something real. more real than we got. things tend to seem too honky-dory, yea-whatever at times on the normandy. the scene with garrus flying to the top of the citadel was absolutely perfect and is a proper example of how the reaper threat affected him.

i will always stand by my initial opinion. Bioware did not closely explore how a galactic threat would affect human behaviour/relationships/bonds(including love interests)/interactions among a crew aboard a space vessel, carrying out the most important missions that would make or break the continued existence of an entire galaxy; my evidence for this, well, i don't have evidence really, but what would prove me wrong is entirely missing from the game at times.

"...I felt as though i was given a ship and commanded to do everything. The mission to stop the collectors i remember so clearly; every squadmate that i spoke to; all their own harsh memories; the mad prophet on omega; the salarian looking for the family data. but if i think about the mission to stop the reapers, i just did it. it seems so vague, now. It all seems like a rush. When did i ever stop to inhale the air of life that i was fighting for....by the time i got everything done, i wondered if i ever told joker good morning once. or if i ever told Traynor, what i'd have done, if i was a woman. this i thought, when i didnt have the chance to tell them those things anymore..." (original monologue)

- Shepard speaks. Coming soon...perhaps.

Nice picture. Which reminds me: I don't think I used Ash's alternate appearances, just the blue armor. I'll have to remember to use the others in future playthroughs.

I always had Ash using her armor, and I kept my armor the stand onyx and red. Seemed like a good colour contrast... in other cases I'd blue and yellow trim. Again, like Ashley's.

I just wish there was a variation of her armor that looked like her old phoenix colours.

If they did an appereance pack, she needs her old armor, or something simular

They already made one with From Ashes. That was a phantom-like armor. Very flattering, just not her style.

I know, after all I have ash wearing one in the pic I posted and wasn't a fan of her other armor she got. Just saying if they do another dlc, it be nice to have her old armor back.

Unfortunately, it's unavoidable. It's a family situation, and I hold my family in very high regard. Where do you think Ash gets it from? Image IPB

(for those who don't get it, my family name is 'Williams'.)

Ashley: G'morning, Skipper ...
Shepard: *snickers* better late than never.
Ashley: Thanks for waking me up. *scowls*
Shepard: I couldn't - you looked so cute while sleeping. And the party yesterday ...
Ashley: Yeah, yeah, Mister Innocent ... the "party". We left 10pm. No, you had to do your private exercises with your XO, remember? *skill scowling*
Shepard: Always keep yourself fit. Coffee for my favorite girl on the Normandy?
Ashley: *snickers* okay, you win. Impossible to be mad at you ...
Shepard: Have it - hot, tough with less than a spoon of sugar. Like you, basically. Watch it, it may hit your face *grins*
Ashley: Thanks.*sips* ... hmmm ... tasty. What's on the list today?
Shepard: Not much. The Salarians and the Turians quit their little war ... and the Batarians are peaceful. So ... nope. Nothing.
Ashley: It's a shame the Alliance of all species in the galaxy lasted only as long as the Reaper War did. Back to the old stupid issues. Everyone against everyone.
Shepard: And they call us whenever they need a diplomatic firefighter. That "other half of the job".
Ashley: I miss the times when I was just a soldier. No politics, no diplomats. Knowing who's your enemy is much easier than knowing NOT who's your friend.
Shepard: You say it, Ash.
Ashley: *sigh* ... now that I think about it, those parties feel wrong. We defeated the Reapers - and ran right into the next war. I wonder what's needed to quit fighting ...
Shepard: Good question.
Traynor: *intercom* Incoming message, priority one!
Shepard: Pass it on my datapad, Samantha ...
Ashley: What does it say?
Shepard: *reads* ... seems we have a job, Ash. They need the firefighters again. Balak assembled a huge fleet and is attacking our temporary HQ on Terra Nova.
Ashley: Again?
Shepard: Again. Hackett called us. This time no diplomats needed. He want to get rid of Balak once and for all.

The writer who did Ash in ME1 actually left Bioware sometime between ME2 and ME3.

If she doesn't seem totally right in ME3, it might partially be because an entirely new person was responsible for writing her. Personally, I don't think they did a terrible job - I imagine it must be tough, taking over someone else's character. The romance in particular was very well written. But, yeah... there needed to be more interaction and more discussion about their shared past and their lingering issues.

Hmm. For some reason, Ash is having a hard time concentrating on her work today.

Well, DWH, we're fans and we do a great job in "taking over someone else's character"- Sure - the idea of Ashley we have is no longer the same her original writer had - wish I could ask L'etoile (spelling?) what he thinks about our interpretation of Ashley's character.

Hmmm, I like that picture. Ash definitely has some sexy hips ^^

That's true. Kind of. I just think that maybe writing for an actual game is a little more difficult than writing fan fiction.

There's a lot of good stuff here, yes, but even here I see varying interpretations of Ash - sometimes wildly varying. Getting a character down can be hard. Getting their voice and personality just right can be hard.

Actually it's easier since you don't have to fully write down a story but just story elements and key scenes.

Example:

Let's say I want a scene between Ashley and Shepard on board of the Citadel in an unknown room. I need to describe the room and every single movement in that room needed for the full scene. That scene easily can span several pages in my book - while not much is happening than a single conversation.

Writing for a game is easier. The setting is given and shown - you don't need to describe it. All you need to do is to write dialogues and emotions for that scene. Since ME is about choices, you might need write down parallel branches of those dialogues - besides that, it's less work.
It's more or less like writing a script - does a script writer has to know every single detail of a scene? He gives a short description (if at all) for the setting, that's it.

Our dialogues are pretty close to what the dialogue writers did in the series ... ;)
