Out of simple curiosity does Ashley even talk to Liara after Thessia? I remember her mentioning talking to Liara, but never heard any of it afterwards.

I think it's time for another Diary Entry ... will write one as soon as I'm home. Maybe it's going to be a double feature or a long one - a lot of stuff is going to happen.

Do you think Javik and Ashley could get along?

No. I really don't. Javik would probably treat Ashley either with respect for her combat skills, or without respect because she's a woman. Hell, he constantly puts down Shepard until the very last charge.

I dunno. I'd think Javik would get along with Ashley.

Javik is a dark reflection of Ashley. In ME1 Ashley had mild xenophobic tendencies, but she had the ability to use reason and was willing to adjust to the new situation. Javik is the other extreme of Ashley, with xenophobic tendencies for just about everyone.

Both are suspicious of synthetics
Both are pragmatists

Yet there definitely would be some tension. They wouldn't hate each other or even been great buddies. But there would be a degree of respect between the two.

Went on Facebook and the New York Yankees posted an update where the captain of the team just broke some record. The title reads "Oh Captain, My Captain! Jeter makes history - again - in win over Orioles."

Guess who I thought of......

No, I think Javik is image of Shepard, if he looses. They have similar story.

Why not both?

To me, that would be the same as Javik's response to Shepard's paragon-ish final comment on the Citadel. "... whose ancestors lived in caves." IMHO, that's not a lot of respect there.

I don't think that Javik ever got past "I'm surrounded by primatives." Even at the end, I think he was amused if you didn't let him use the memory shard and had enough of this cycle if you let him use it.

I also think that Ashley couldn't care less what Javik thought and that she would be right.

Ashley: You pester me for spending all my time in one room, but here you as sulking in your quarters.
Shepard: I'm not sulking, I'm building my models.
Ashley: You're cooped up in your cabin, playing with your toys. We've been docked at the Citadel for a few hours, usually your one of the first off.
Shepard: I've been working.
Ashley: Gluing plastic together isn't 'work', Skipper.
Shepard: I was working, Ashley. You always seem to waltz in when I'm not.
Ashley: I have a knack for showing up when I'm needed. Had a good teacher.
Shepard: Heh. Let me guess, this was a former CO of yours who always had to play the hero. Even if he went out of his way to do it.
Ashley: Lucky guess.
Shepard: I'm good at playing guessing games.
Ashley: I'm sure. But I think I'd rather ask you out to dinner... or dragging you out by your heels if that's what it takes.
Shepard: Knowing you, Williams? You'd probably do it too.
Ashley: Yes. You've been stuck up here for hours, and I wanna make sure you actually eat something tonight. Even if I have to force it down myself.
Shepard: As romantic as that sounds, I think I'm fully capable of feeding myself. That being said, if you need an escort, I'd be happy to oblige.
Ashley: How kind of you, Good Ser.
Shepard: Anything for you, My lady.
Shepard + Ashley laugh
Ashley: We've totally been watching too Game of Thrones lately.
Shepard: ... We totally have.

That's true. Kind of. I just think that maybe writing for an actual game is a little more difficult than writing fan fiction.

There's a lot of good stuff here, yes, but even here I see varying interpretations of Ash - sometimes wildly varying. Getting a character down can be hard. Getting their voice and personality just right can be hard.

I don't like that her writer took the easy way out in writing her character. IMO s/he stayed away from anything too complex or original and focused on something that would be simple to get right - her feelings on her family - because they were trying so hard not to get her wrong.

But focusing on not getting her wrong doesn't mean they got her right.

And it was probably hard to integrate Ash's ME1 personality with her ME2 distrust and ME3 growth, but a professional writer should be able to do that.

Ashley and Javik dialouge is something I wish we had more of in the game.

Javik: I find this "Ashley" to be brash and insubordinate, Commander. Do you allow all of your underlings to address their superiors this way? In my cycle, we threw insubordinate soldiers out the airlock.

(Yeah, I know he really doesn't say that they threw that many things out the airlock, but I couldn't help myself)

EDIT:

Yeah, it's just that I don't think they got her wrong. What was there seemed right, at least to me. It just didn't seem complete.

Would have been nice to have a discussion on religion, espeicaily since, you know - Shepard died. I mean, there's an in depth conversation waiting to happen. Would have been nice to address Shepard's time with Cerberus - maybe even walk in on her having a discussion with Thane about it when you come to Heurta for the first time after talking to him about her. The tone of the discussion could even have been different depending on how much you tell Thane (there should have been a range of options when he asks you about her, from "she means nothing to me anymore," to "I love her, and would like to have her back"). Would have been nice to be able to talk to Ash about her time away from Shepard, and how she became an officer. Or about why she changed her hair. Or to have the option for a date where you stroll around the Presidium commons and, hell, talk about music, movies, life in the Alliance military, or, hell, even window shop and talk about the things you'd each like to buy. There would be an opportunity like we had in ME1, where conversing with Ash is as much of a chance to define who our Shepard is as it is to learn about Ash.

And, yes, she shouldn't be stuck in that damn obseveration room whenever she's on the Normandy. I wouldn't mind if she did that for a few missions, but, damn it, Shepard at least should have the option of talking to her about it. And Garrus and Tali should talk to her about it as well, because they both know her, and I think they'd be concerned about why she's suddenly a shut in.

Anyway, Ash is awesome, even if that isn't explored enough in ME3.

Found this. From Ash's original writer - Chris L'Etoile.

He wrote a lot of content for ME1, including the entire codex.

He wrote two blogs on the inception of the series. Link to Part 1 and Part 2.

I think we can clearly see where Ash gets her cynicism.

You give a C+ critique, but then you give an A+ answer at the end of your response. I think it's okay for us to be critical of her writing.

Not exploring anything improtant to the crux of the characters - things far more important than Sara and her dead husband - was wrong IMO. It was just the wrong was to do it because I think this was the last thing we saw coming from her storyline. Bottom-of-the-barrel, back burner, dead last.

Interesting - it doesn't seem he wrote the scene on Horizon.

A shame. Maybe it wouldn't have been so god-awful. Maybe there would have at least been some decent responses from Shepard, instead of everything seeming to be "herp, derp, Cerberus is swell now!"

I like this man.
He and I am are quite similar in thoughts. And I like the idea behind the Systems Alliance.

Which also adds another brutal truth to the endings: since Earth is devastated (and still split into at least 150 nations), wars about scarce resources will happen. Basically, an unified Earth is screwed already, but may recover one day - but a divided Earth won't EVER recover again.

Bam.

I wish I could chat with him and present our interpretation of Ashley :innocent:

If I may be permitted to continue this? Slightly renagade, I always was to Javik.

Javik: I find this 'Ashley' female to be brash and insubordinate, Commander. Do you allow all of your underlings to address their superiors this way? In my cycle, we would treat such disrepect with a fitting punishment.
Shepard: Define a 'fitting punishment'?
Javik: We would have them beaten by the commanding officer of the one they insulted. Made example of.
Shepard: I'm not going to bludgeon a crewmate, more over a woman. For the record, She's not my subordinate either.
Javik: Are you saying this Ashley-Female is your commander instead? Are you the one who takes orders?
Shepard: I don't strike women. As a rule men don't strike women. It's considered socially unacceptable in my culture.
Javik: You primatives hold females in such high regard. You should not. They are a means of producing more soliders to fight this war, nothing more.
Shepard: I think Ash would have strong feelings against that one. She's the best damned soldier I ever met. And if it were her and me in a fight, I would definately put my credits on her. *turns to leave*
Javik: I pray that your... feelings... do not endanger the crew or the mission in the future, Commander.
Shepard: *pauses before exist* For the record, Javik? This isn't your Empire, its my Alliance. This is my Ship and things are done my way. Got it?
Javik: Understood Commander.
Shepard: Don't forget it.

I really like this one.

I don't think Edwin Shepard was particularly renegade to Javik. But he didn't like him for a long time. Javik spent a lot of time going on solo missions to help collect war assets before Shepard finally learned enough about him to develop a grudging respect and kind of understand why Javik is the way he is.

In the end, Javik actually comes along with Shepard and Ash on the Earth missions, including the final push.

Sometime during ME2

Ash: That Cerberus uniform doesn't look right on you, skipper. Come back to me. Come back to me, and let me take it off.

Shepard: (wakes up with a start - looks at the empty space next to him on the bed)

Now that you mention those facts....it only increases the probability that Ashley would cut Javik down to size.
Why?
- Ashley throughout the series isn't frigthened to call someone out on their actions and characters
   - Sparing the Rachni queen in ME1 (whom promptly gets recaptured in ME3)
   - Letting aliens wander around a military prototype (Tali kinda leaks the stealth tech to the quarians in ME3)
   - Shepard trusting Cerberus (Guess which organization attacks the Alliance in ME3)
   - The Asari making Shepard do their dirty work (take her and Garrrus on the monastery mission in ME3)

It would seem that when Javik goes on about "in my cycle...", Ashley would snap and call him out on it. Maybe point out that for all their superiority the protheans still got their butts handed to them by the Reapers.

Maybe when Javik critiques Shepard, she'd point out that as of now Shepard has a personal kill count of two dreadnought class reapers (Sovereign in ME1 and the Reaper - Human Larva in ME2).

And lets not forget the Walker he killed on Rannoch. And the one he set up to fall on Tuchunka.

Shepard: Here you go, sweetie.
Baby!Hannah: *giggles and laughs, clutching the toy close*
Sarah: Ah, I thought it was you two pulling up!
Ashley: Hey Sar'.
Sarah: Hey Ashie, and it's nice to see you too, John.
Shepard: Pleasure as always, Sarah.
Sarah: Please, come in. I have the kettle on. But if you're looking for a playmate, I just put Tommy down for his afternoon nap.
Ashley: That's alright. Hannah's due for her nap shortly anyway. And we're not planning to stay long. We just wanted to pop in for a visit. John, do you want to...?
Shepard:  Sure, *takes baby Hannah off Ashley and holds her close*
Sarah: That's kind of you, do you still want a cup of coffee or something.
Shepard: Thanks, but no thanks. Do you?
Ashley: Actually, I think I'll pass on that one, too. Feeling nauseas and out of sorts to be perfectly frank.
Sarah: Oh, that's too bad. Are you alright?
Ashley: I'm great. We just came back from the Doctors and, well - *smiles with a slight shrug*
Sarah: Another one?
Ashley: Yeah. I'm about six weeks now.
Sarah: Can't you leave the poor woman alone, man?
Shepard: Leave a glorgious woman like your sister alone? Never.
Ashley: You really know how to charm a woman, Skipper.
Shepard: Love you too, dear.*Hannah starts to fuss
Sarah: Sounds like someone wants to sleep.
Ashley: Yes, she's been awake all day. Maybe Daddy should put her down for a nap.
Shepard: Yeah. I'm going to. Pleasure seeing you again, Sarah.
Sarah: You too, John. I'll drop Ash by this evening. That alright with you?
Shepard: Sounds good. Just... no planning over-the-top babyshowers, ok? I had to spend hours cleaning up after the last time.
Ashley: *Half-joking* But Skipper! You've completely ruined our evil schemes!
Shepard: Somehow, I think I can live with myself.
