Thread's in slow-mode huh? And still there's plenty to catch up too.:P

Suggestion from ex-military: why not use mails to home and from home? Not sure for future, but here diaries are not welcomed. Excerpts from unit "logbook" (combat and duty notes) are more appropriate. Could be also some "background" files, sort of personal dossier on Ash, written by her previous commanders. Mr. Brainheart is good artist, so I guess we can mimic screen with texts and someones hands typing/filling that dossier.
Just 2 coppers.

These are good suggestions Rudy, it'd certainly add some necessary variation. I like the idea of a dossier on Ash, maybe that could be used as 'the external view' of Ash, what others think of her, how she's doing, etc..

As far as big decisions go, we might have to avoid them, or we have to describe the various outcomes and Ash reaction to them, but I don't think that this is the most important content gap to fill. but if we do do convo's between Shepard and Ash we could do it with dialogue tree's, just like in-game. Only it'd be tricky that turn that into a clear easy to read format.

It's clear that it'll have to be an interpretation of Ash by some of her fans, it's not canon and it doesn't have to be. We'll probably have to make some comprimises at some point, but I wouldn't be to concerned with that..

Ashley's story should be central though. Hell, we could even tell about what'll happen to her if Shepard decided she wasn't coming aboard the Normandy. It depends on whether we want to tell one interpretation of how things play out (Shepley), or if we offer alternative options. I think we need to decide on a framework before we decide on that though, it's hard to see if that's a viable idea until we do that.

^ Ashley's story should be central in ME1/2 and ME3 if you romanced her. Period.

I know that's some hard work and needs more money - but seriously ... if you love a woman, she becomes your new center of your life. That's another thing missing in ME3. Somehow it feels as if Garrus, Liara and Vega are your Shepard's life ... O.o

@ Rudy: why no Diaries? I like my series :D

I dunno if this could be helpful...but if you refuse her request to join the Normandy she later takes on "role of commanding officer overseeing several specialized quick-response teams performing covert infantry operations."

I would assume that even Anderson or Hacket wouldn't have the pull to put her into such a position....at least not without her having some prior experience in covert operations.

Given the nature of her Spectre Status, her appearance on Virmire and boost in ranks, is it likely that Ashley has been accepted into Alliance Special forces? For the most part Spectres seem to be selected from specialized individuals (recruits come from the STG, Asari commandoes for the most part)

Does the S designation refer to "Scout Snipers", given her prior expeirence as a platoon guide and her specialization with assault rifles and sniper rifles?

Yeah, it doesn't seem like she's exactly qualified for that job, does it? [smilie]http://social.bioware.com/images/forum/emoticons/wondering.png[/smilie] S stands for something different I believe, can't quite recall waht though.

@Data; That pic makes me a bit sad for my Femshep, two games of waiting for Ash, still no luck. ( I guess she was a little try-hard but still. [smilie]http://social.bioware.com/images/forum/emoticons/lol.png[/smilie][smilie]http://social.bioware.com/images/forum/emoticons/crying.png[/smilie])

But that gap can be filled by dialogues that don't even necessarily have to be Shepley centered..Because it's that lack of content that breaks both the relationship feeling and the friendship.

^ true.

Javik: You're here again, Williams?
Ashley: Yes. I'm here to learn more about your people.
Javik: They're gone. Defeated by the Reapers fifty thousand of your years ago.
Ashley: I mean how were they - before the Reapers arrived?
Javik: I was born long after the first wave hit our Empire. I have no memories of the time before the Reapers. And according to your Commander, it feels like thousand years since he met you on Eden Prime. I'm sure he can answer the question as good as I can: war destroys your memories and your sense for time.
Ashley: Yeah, maybe you're right. Liara told me your Empire spanned the entire galaxy, your influence on today is still so powerful-
Javik: That Asari has no idea. She's a scientist, a theorist, someone who's studying dead cultures and trying to find out how we lived. And she's wrong. In every single point.
Ashley: Did you tell her?
Javik: I did. Right after the Fall of Thessia. Her entire species had our heritage at their disposal. And they wasted it. If my people had known, not the Asari but the Humans had been graced with our knowledge.
Ashley: I'm sure they had their reasons, Javik. No need to be angry.
Javik: I'm not angry at my people, Williams. I'm worried that my people's decision might lead to another victory of the Reapers.
Ashley: Javik ...
Javik: Go, Williams. I need to prepare another meditation.
Ashley: You can talk to me, whenever you need a friend.
Javik: The Commander asked already. It's a custom of your civilization - and I keep that in mind. Now ... go.

----

I still have that fan project in my mind where some Ash fans write Ashley's story from ME1 -> ME3 ... but not yet. I don't feel ready enough for such project.

Dossier and "journal of unit activity" (damn it, anyone served in your western army, how you call it?) allow you to "distance" yourself from description, thus removing "fanly attitude", yet add that "background" usually lacking. Also it helps to fill timeline. Speaking of which.

First, let's draw a bit.

Since you good at that, I suggest you to be responsible for that. Posted Image

_____-1_________0________________1__________________2__________

And so on. This is our timeline, Primitive, I knowPosted Image, but let's fill it with what we know. Point zero - is obvious, that's our reference point, Ash birthday. On the right will be events from her life - school, sisters birth, her school and career path. On the left - events before Ash was born, for example how her parents met.
So far we only need to place tick marks on evens "below zero" - just to mark their existence. Same, btw will go on the right part of the line.
For the first stage, this line has no scale - we just place events, nothing more.
On second stage, we choose yearly scale, i.e. each tick mark for each year of her life.
Third, and so far final stage - monthly scale. Since they didn't provide us with space flight time-events scale (i.e. flight from Eden prime to Citadel - 12 hours, time on Citadel - 4 days, flight to Artemis Tau and search for Liara - three weeks, etc), more precise scale is irrelevant, but I think we will be able to narrow certain events to month.

Posted Image

For the beginning we place only events we know, those will be "concrete", immovable tick marks, "happens always", regardless of our (i.e. player) choices - no matter what happened in our "head kanone", those events should be taken from game. Then we find gaps between those events and decide how to fill them, for example Ash life after conscription, her time in boot camp (three months, for example), first unit, second training, etc, filling her career path and way up on ranks. This will require either full listing of her dialogues from games, if this is possible, or nerdy replays and print-screening (since ME1-2 available in Steam it's not that problematic).

After we basically fill the gaps, then we can begin sketching (relax Mr. Brainheart, no drawing this timePosted Image), for example Ash arrival at 212 (btw, what's that - 2nd Section, 1st Platoon, 2nd Company, or 2nd Platoon, 1st Company, 2nd Batallion?), impression she made at her CO and fellow soldiers, impression she had from them (I guess our CptData can take that and cover it in form of mails home or hidden diary (preferably given in form of hand-written-alike font). Don't forget about censorship - certain parts of her mails should be censored, but there is could be a "first person view" from Censor eyes, who actually editing her mails, if we really want that, I guess we can by Garrymod or whatever and experiment with it, if it's possible to extract ME1 models (yes, ME1). Or Mr. Brainheart probably will be able to draw something like that. Posted Image

I'm not sure for Bundeswehr regulations, but those regs I saw were opposite to diary in any form. "Security reasons". Since Ash is Aries and thus - could be stubborn (Aries anyone?) and somewhat rebellous so theoretically she could hide her personal "pen and paper" pocket-size notebook. Not sure for scanning equipment and checkouts, probably it will be targeted only on electronic notes, not paper ones.
but somehow I think her early days diary (a.k.a. before Shepard's death) actually shouldn't exist - I guess she is "lawful neutral" character, so if there are orders, you'd better shut up and follow them.

Might be heading to a museum later today. Which raises the question... Do you think Ash is a museum person? If so, which museums do you think she'd like to visit?

Museums eh? Well I personally could see Shepard being the bigger fan and dragging Ash to some while she wants to go to the art galleries or the theatre.

But i was at the Imperial war museum in London a while ago and it was brilliant, maybe she'd like it due to it being all military stuff.

Watching Ashley be in paradise is difficult while my guy is stuck in rubble. Hoping this EC will fix that but trying not to get my hopes too high just in case.

Is it paradise? Maybe they are stuck on a planet that looks good but has no food supplies or is inhabited by a deadly creature or alien race and so maybe it's hell for them? I'm sure it's hell for Ash anyway cause she is seperated from Shepard.

I like CptData's version of it in his diary entries that it isn't a hostile or thriving planet and they are having to survive on the supplies from the Normandy and so if they don't get help soon they could be in real trouble.
While in the meantime Shepard is trying to recover from the battle against the Reapers and then realises he has one final mission, to find and save his crew and LI

I like my version, of no one is in paradise and Anderson died instead of Shepard activating the crucible. And the mass relays not blowing up, but that's just me :)

I'm sure that's the concept they were going for, which is one reason I hate the endings so much. They're so out of synch with the style we see everywhere else in the Mass Effect trilogy.

Being stranded on an alien world, cut off from modern technology, is hardly paradise. At any other point in the trilogy, the narrative would have reflected that.

In any event, I can't accept the endings simply because of the logic problems. As compelling as CptData's entries are, I have trouble working them into my head canon simply because I can't figure out how Ash and the rest of the squad ended up on the Normandy, or why Joker would run. Ash and Javik were both with me during the final push to the conduit. I can't see either of them, nor the rest of the squad, deciding to bug out while fighting is still going on.

It's why my head canon ending involves Ash being on Earth, and finding Shepard in the rubble. It makes more sense.

As much as I dislike the completely over the top lighting...it does make for some nice screenshots.

On the shuttle, before the mission

Ash: Shepard... Are you wearing sun glasses?
Shepard: You bet.
Ash: Why...?
Shepard: You'll see.

Yeah, my dialouge is saved on my laptop, which I'm not using right now. Probably I'll go over it one last time then post after I get back from my visit to the American Art Museum. (Going to finally take a complete look at their Art of Video Games exhibit).

Well here goes...

Excerpt from Commander Shepard's diary from "Finding Normandy -  A story of hope, despair and love"

We’re five minutes out from the Charon Relay. In the months that followed after the Crucible firing, the orbit of earth has been filled with wreckage and broken bodies of Reapers and organics. We’ve finally destroyed the Reapers and yet…I feel empty.
Hackett warned me about the futility of my quest. The Council cautioned me against “reckless endangerment”. But I have made my decision.

48 hours ago, I commandeered one of the lifeless cruisers of the Geth fleet. 48 hours ago I put out a call for volunteers. The response to say was…staggering. Turians, quarians, salarians, humans and even krogans
heeded my call. Urdnot Wrex sent me his finest commandoes as an escort. The Rachni queen sent a hundred of her “children” to crew the vessel. The quarians sent some of their brilliant engineers. Salarian STG members showed up on my loading deck and even a few members of the Turian Blackwatch volunteered. The survivors of Team Delta showed up in, what passes for, my armoury.

Even the Justicar Samara showed up at my quarters, simply stating that she had sworn an oath. Even the loss of her arm, didn’t seem to faze her.

And yet I don’t believe they joined me to find the Normandy. They joined to find hope. To find proof that the galaxy has been made better by their actions. To see that civilization have risen from the shackles of the Reapers. To find that hope still burns. They want to see that the spires of Thessia still reach for the stars, the towers of Palaven still stand strong and that wild heart of Tuchanka still beats.

I cannot promise them these things, but I will swear this. I will find the Normandy. I will find you Ash. Even if it takes thousand lifetimes, I will find you.I will search a thousand stars, peer into a thousand planets and plumb the depths of the void. I will find you.
And I will bring you home.

Noooo. Conrad died activating the Crucible. Anderson needs to return to Kahlee.
