Well here goes...

Excerpt from Commander Shepard's diary from "Finding Normandy -  A story of hope, despair and love"

We’re five minutes out from the Charon Relay. In the months that followed after the Crucible firing, the orbit of earth has been filled with wreckage and broken bodies of Reapers and organics. We’ve finally destroyed the Reapers and yet…I feel empty.
Hackett warned me about the futility of my quest. The Council cautioned me against “reckless endangerment”. But I have made my decision.

48 hours ago, I commandeered one of the lifeless cruisers of the Geth fleet. 48 hours ago I put out a call for volunteers. The response to say was…staggering. Turians, quarians, salarians, humans and even krogans
heeded my call. Urdnot Wrex sent me his finest commandoes as an escort. The Rachni queen sent a hundred of her “children” to crew the vessel. The quarians sent some of their brilliant engineers. Salarian STG members showed up on my loading deck and even a few members of the Turian Blackwatch volunteered. The survivors of Team Delta showed up in, what passes for, my armoury.

Even the Justicar Samara showed up at my quarters, simply stating that she had sworn an oath. Even the loss of her arm, didn’t seem to faze her.

And yet I don’t believe they joined me to find the Normandy. They joined to find hope. To find proof that the galaxy has been made better by their actions. To see that civilization have risen from the shackles of the Reapers. To find that hope still burns. They want to see that the spires of Thessia still reach for the stars, the towers of Palaven still stand strong and that wild heart of Tuchanka still beats.

I cannot promise them these things, but I will swear this. I will find the Normandy. I will find you Ash. Even if it takes thousand lifetimes, I will find you.I will search a thousand stars, peer into a thousand planets and plumb the depths of the void. I will find you.
And I will bring you home.

That, Sir, looks like a promising trailer for a fanfiction. Keep it going

The project seems like a great idea but there's so many different headcanon's out there that it could be quite difficult to narrow it down to one. Just by reading other posters on here, I can tell mine is vastly different in certain areas.

That's a good point. To a small degree it can be limited by keeping Shepard's identity at the default settings, which would be earthborn, sole survivor and soldier. However anything beyond that could be problematic, especially relationship dynamics and backgrounds.

Working within the confines of what we do know and then bridging the gaps with the most logical choice might work. KISS might be handy here.

Most of that stuff, I keep ambiguous in my dialogues because you don't know who's reading it and what they've determined for their Shepard. It's different with Ash. We would have to write -experiment - and peer review. Take suggestions and other opinions into consideration before anything final is decided.

These are good suggestions Rudy, it'd certainly add some necessary variation. I like the idea of a dossier on Ash, maybe that could be used as 'the external view' of Ash, what others think of her, how she's doing, etc..

I love the dossier and logbook ideas as well. The mail to and from home, I really like as well. Reminds me of the pre-release ME1 email from Ash.

As far as big decisions go, we might have to avoid them, or we have to describe the various outcomes and Ash reaction to them, but I don't think that this is the most important content gap to fill. but if we do do convo's between Shepard and Ash we could do it with dialogue tree's, just like in-game. Only it'd be tricky that turn that into a clear easy to read format.

It's clear that it'll have to be an interpretation of Ash by some of her fans, it's not canon and it doesn't have to be. We'll probably have to make some comprimises at some point, but I wouldn't be to concerned with that..

Ashley's story should be central though. Hell, we could even tell about what'll happen to her if Shepard decided she wasn't coming aboard the Normandy. It depends on whether we want to tell one interpretation of how things play out (Shepley), or if we offer alternative options. I think we need to decide on a framework before we decide on that though, it's hard to see if that's a viable idea until we do that.

We might be able to vote here on what Shepard decided to do and vote again on Ash's reaction to it. If the majority wins hands-down we go with whatever option they chose. If it's close or someone on the losing side is adamant about their POV, we take a harder look at the reasoning on both sides, find a middle ground, or maybe make concessions. Trade a reaction for a reaction.

I'm not saying to disregard Shepard completely. However I think it being centralized on Ashley and her character itself would provide more insight and make up for the content we didn't get (ex. her opinions on the mission). That's something I think could be easily done, it'd just require more creative thought.

I've got a good basis for my own headcanon, and I don't necessarily want to have it shred to pieces either. I think by focusing it on Ashley more, we could still have room to enable all of our own headcanons.

Indeed, that's the view I hold as well. Some reference to Shepard might be necessary - but best to avoid backgrounds, major decisions, those things.

I think the list of things we could agree on, for purposes of the project would include:

1. Ash and Shepard were in a romance in ME1

2. Shepard came into ME3 interested in reparing their relationship (This would make sense if Sheply is part of the story)

3. Shepard reassured Ash on Mars with the paragon convo options, visited Ash in the hospital all three times, brought her the "best option" poetry book, and generally used the paragon conversation options (consistent with wanting to rebuild the relationship - also gives us some leeway for journal entries or convos with others describing the hospital visits)

I would also add one more point, though this one can be debated

4. Shepard stayed loyal to Ash in ME2. Again, I feel this would be consistent with the Sheply focus, and would add some leeway to what Ash can discuss in her journals and with others ("Garrus says he walked in on Shepard staring at my picture before the suicide mission," or "Shepard visited today, said he never moved on...")

All of these would violate the "don't tramp on personal canon" objective somewhat, but I feel they'd be consistent with the tone we're trying to strike with the project. Number 4 might be a little more difficult to justify, since I suppose that some want to view their Shepard as "coming home" after straying, but I feel adding the loyalty angle makes the story more romantic.

Thoughts?

(These points were originally in an edit of my last post, but since there has been a response, I decided a new post was justified)

Yes, I think this would be a good basis for their relationship. Things will get tricky if we have to explain a hiccup in their dynamic because Shepard was with Miranda in ME2 or dated Tali, and then we'd have to consider her friendship with the ex-LI if they're on the Normandy.

I think everyone here likes straight up Shepley best.

Well, it still sounds like an awesome project ... I wonder: who are the best people writing such stuff? And even if we do it, what "headcanon" will make it? A specific one or condensed stuff by all writers put into one "super canon"?

Just asking. I like that idea. Ashley deserves it. =)

I believe I have an hypothesis for the S1 designation:

- According to the codex entry the N training places an emphasis on leadership skills in hostile environments.

- It would appear that  "even qualifying for N1 elevates an officer to a position of respect"

- As far as we know, Ashley is an enlisted individual (so is Shepard for that matter), but until ME3 has yet to complete Officer training. Yet she has enough experience to partake in "covert oerations" and be Anderson's point-man for investigating the collector attacks. At this point its not hard to believe that Ashley has taken and passed some level of special forces training?

- Is it possible that the N designation if for special forces officers, while the S designation is for special forces enlistees?

Timeline for Ashley's career
- Serves as Gunnery Chief in the 2nd Frontier Division.
- After the destruction of first Normandy, passes special forces training and receives S1 designation
- Gets promoted after receiving S1 designation
- Has yet to go into N training due to Reaper invasion.

I think this will be a team effort. Anyone who wants to write should come forward. I think we come up with a head cannon by voting on most everything that needs it.

We could assign who writes what or if two people want to work on the same thing, they can collaborate and someone else can do a voice pass.

Anderson, I think it was, refers to her as Operations Chief Williams in ME2 when Shep talks to him on the Citadel so I think you're right on track.

This. In fact we cvan do that now: Who wants in on this Ashley-content-project ? So we can get an idea of how many people want to work on this. That might be handy for determining a realistic size for the project. (I'm in btw ;))

We'll have to devide the content at some point and have a Topic for each where we can post Writings and critique, or something like that.

I fullly support this project and I hope/know it will be great but I just don't feel I could do it any justice, so many of you guys have a natural ability to create fantastic stuff and I just feel like if I helped I'd let the side down. I'd be happy to offer advice over ideas or pieces of writing but as much as I love the sound of this l just don't feel I'm up for the task.

Noooo. Conrad died activating the Crucible. Anderson needs to return to Kahlee.

I'ts from one of my fanfics, if someone had to sacrafice themselfs, it would make since for anderson IMO. Shepards already died once.

So....what do you think? It concerns Ashley's survival on jungle planet and takes place during a nocturnal attack by the planet's local predators.

Pain. So much pain. It hammered on her skull, scraped at her skin and tore at her will. She felt its claws rake across her face, heard her shrieks of pain and agony rip through the cold night air. She heard the sounds of men and beasts clash together in the darkness of the jungle, the howls of the wounded, the moans of the dying and silence of the dead gripping the cold, night air.

Ashley opened her eyes and regarded her attacker in the eyes. Copper blue orbs started back at her, deeply recessed inside an armoured skull. Fangs that were bolted to an open maw flashed in the inky darkness. Hot saliva dripped off canine daggers and onto her face. The smell of dead flesh and rotting meat assaulted her senses and a deep, bass growl reverberated in her head. Powerful forelimbs grasped and clawed at her face and its hind legs held up a powerful lean body.

With a howl, she conjured up the strength to boldly shove her attacker to the side. Quickly she lurched to her feet, her fingers plucking at her holster. Damn! Her fingers grasped at empty air and in that instant she realized her pathetic position. Barely more than 6 feet in front of her lay her pistol, having been knocked out of her grasp due to the creature’s surprise attack. Barely three feet to her side, lay the creature.

Almost instantly her attacker recovered. Cold, predatory eyes regarded her, as she grasped her midsection her stomach sporting bloody gashes.  Its canine ears heard her gasps of breath and moans of pain as she swayed. Its hind legs settled back and with a predatory snarl it crouched in the blades of glass that dotted the field.

For a moment predator and prey held their peace, held back by the gods of death and blood. Like two boxers in a ring, human and animal circled each other, searching for weaknesses in both flesh and spirit.

A second later both human and creature lunged at each other. Ashley dove for the pistol, her powerful legs propelling her through the air and next to the pistol. With decades of training she expertly lifted her pistol as the creature’s maw filled her vision. With a primal howl she pulled back on the trigger as the night air was filled with a thunderous roar.

Okay, the dialouge I promised is here.

I borrowed the name for Shepard and Ash's daughter. Hope that's okay.

Date Night on the Citadel

Posted Image

Ashley: Bad news… Mom and Sarah are both sick. Some kind of food poisoning. Looks like neither of them can watch the kids tonight.

Shepard: What? But we already have the tickets. And they’re only good for tonight.

Ashley:
Maybe we can find someone else. What about the kids’ Uncle Garrus and Aunt Tali?

Shepard: Both on their way to Rannoch. Left yesterday morning. What about James?

Ashley: No… He was around, but he’s on assignment now. On the Normandy. Which also rules out Joker and EDI.

Shepard: Right. Okay. What about Adams and Chakwas?

Ashley: They’re still on their honeymoon. You know that. *sighs* What about, you know… our friend, the Shadow Broker.

Shepard: I doubt she’s on the Citadel. No one can get in touch with her these days, anyway. Last time I tried, it took two weeks to get a message back.

Ashley: Figures. Okay… I can’t believe I’m suggesting this… but what about Miranda? She’s actually not so bad if she has Oriana with her.

Shepard:
Well, I doubt we could get both of them at the same time. And they’re both away this week, anyway. Wouldn’t say much about it, but I got the impression they’re on Noveria.

Ashley:
Probably for the best. Remember the “advice” Miranda gave Hannah about dealing with boys the last time she visited? That Hurst boy might never be the same. Still… We’re running low on options.

Shepard:
Well… Wrex sent Grunt to the station to do some business on behalf of the krogan clans. I think he’s still here, and I’m sure he’d be willing to help.

Ashley:
Shepard… No. The last time the kids were around Grunt, Hannah ran around punching people for a week!

Shepard:
All right. Auntie Jack is still on the sta…

Ashley:
NO.

Shepard:
Ash, be reasonable here. We have these tickets, and they’re only good for tonight! And I reserved a honeymoon suite at the Presidium Hilton! We never have a night to ourselves anymore! There has to be some way we can make this work!

Ashley:
Sorry, but it looks like it’s just not in the cards. Not unless you can think of someone else.

Shepard:
I’ve got it! Hear me out on this! I saw Aria on the station this morning. She’s here on business. I’m sure she’s good with kids… raised a daughter. I’ve heard. And we could call her Auntie Aria.

Ash:
…..

Shepard:
What? She’s responsible. She runs a business empire! A… kind of business empire.

Ash:
… Really, Skipper? This is a suggestion you’re sticking with?

Shepard:
We’re… We’re, uh, staying in tonight, aren’t we?

Ash:
I’ll order some food. Why don’t you look into a movie?

Yeah, see... This is what being stranded on a planet in the ME universe would be like. If you were even lucky enough to end up stranded on a habitable world.

They just did not think through that ending in regard to what the ME universe is like.

What you wrote, on the other hand, is very good. Poor Ash, though. Think I'll stick with my own head canon ending.
