Does anyone love how bioware is churning out DLC for multiplayer, but doesn't seem to give a rat's ass about single? I want my Ash damn it!

Well Multiplayer DLC is easier to make than singleplayer. Multiplayer doesn't require a storyline, dialogue for multiple characters...etc.

We'll get a decent amount of singleplayer DLC I think. We won't see any of it until after the Extended Cut though, but who knows maybe they're already working on it since they brought back the voice actors.

In my head canon: There's about a year to a year and a half where Shepard is either in the hospital (with frequent visits from Ash), or where they're spending an extended vacation living together in the cabin on Intai'sei. No children then - that time is spent on getting to know each other even better and on Shepard's recovery.

Eventually they're called back up to deal with a "crisis," which leads to them spending a few more years (2-3, perhaps?) on the Normandy. After that, Shep has it with military life, and becomes more of a diplomat/Council advisor. I'd say Ash spends another year or two working on her career before joining him, then another year or two after that where it's just them, enjoying a more stable life.

So, for Edwin Shepard and Ash, it would take - about eight and a half years after the end of ME3 for their first kid?

It could easily be longer than that, as well. Remember - many medical advances by 2186. Safe child bearing age has likely been extended by quite a bit.

@DWH

Yeah, women in their late forties are able to have healthy children. Not sure of anything past that. But a person can look like a youthful 25 and easily be 50 according to the books. So, dunno. Ash'd probably wait til late 30s to have a child.

Unlike my Shepard's mother, who had him when she was 17... :P

So what you're saying is that there are a lot of...you know what's... in the future? :P

I know one of the characters (*coughs Kahlee Sanders cough*) was having a relationship with someone 20 years their junior.

And I'm surprised that no one's commenting on my Shepard's mother's age...  (Yes, there is a sizable gap between her and my Shepard's father.)

Yes, 2186 is a wonderful time to be alive. If you ignore the whole "Reaper invasion" and such. Posted Image

@Aurora: Is that Shepard Earth born?

Technically, they're a Spacer/EArthborn hybrid. Born on Earth, but was only there for a few months after birth before their father took custody and their mother was old enough to enroll in the Military. They was raised in space.

Their mother however is straight Earthborn.

That's how I envision all 3 backgrounds. Considering that Shepard was born in 2154...

Earthborn- entire "childhood" (until age 18 when Shep enlisted in the military) was spent on Earth.

Spacer- born on Earth, parents either enlisted in growing Alliance military shortly thereafter, or already were enlisted but got sent to a off-world base shortly afterward (though still possible for Shep to have been born on Luna or Mars).

Colonist- born on Earth, but parents became part of a wave of colonists who went to Mindoir while Shep was little.

Got a question for everyone who envisions their Shepard and Ash settling down. As much as I too may like the idea, where could they settle? After the war, every major world is devastated. All colony worlds are cut off. I'm sure anarchy will rule large swathes of the galaxy, while each species pulls back and consolidates it's power.

Methinks the Normandy might be the safest place for them to start a family :P
That kinda works for my headcanon, because neither of them is the kind to retire while there's still work to be done. Strong sense of duty and all that. That or they could wait until the galaxy settles down a bit, however long that may take. IIRC, Ascension states that women are capable of healthy childbirth into their sixties O.o

In my head canon, the Citadel was never destroyed. Since Shepard ends up as a diplomat/Council advisor (and eventually the human Councilor) Shepard and Ash live there.

They also keep the cabin on Intai'sei as a sort of vacation home they can go to when they want some alone time. Of course they spend about a year there just after ME3. Intai'sei was never touched by the Reapers. When Shepard died, Ash inherited the cabin (Shepard changed his will before Ilos, so those changes were in effect when he was spaced). She offered to give it back, but he told her to just keep it in her name - so technically, they stayed in "Ash's" cabin.

EDIT: If Shepard was born in 2154, that means he was 22 when the Skyllian Blitz happened, not 19.

That means my original head canon background, with him going to college and being ROTC, is perfectly reasonable. For some reason, I thought he was born in 2157... Posted Image

My headcanon, my Paragon Shepard gave it to his twin Renegade sister and the sister in turn let Ash use it.

I'm giving serious thought to volunteering for the super canon project.

Not sure my dialouge writing skills would be good enough to do actual dialouge. I'm pretty good at editing, though. When I was still involved with CDN, I edited a lot of the fan submitted articles.

I'm not sure I envision Daniel settling down. After he gets promoted to Fleet Admiral (all 4 of my Sheps get promoted to that rank- after saving the galaxy 3 times, they deserve it) and the retrofits to the Normandy SR-2.5 (as I call it) are finally completed, he remains a Spectre (so does Ash) and they continue more or less "business as usual." They do eventually have a family (but not for another 10+ years), but stay aboard the Normandy, kids and all (after all, they have their "extended family" there who can help out and the ship is big enough).

I just don't think Daniel and Ash would ever settle down and retire. I don't know if he has any clue as to what he'd do otherwise.

Agreed, Td. After all this time, the Normandy is Shepard's (and Ash's) home now. Like Han Solo and the Millenium Falcon,I can see him/them basically living out the rest of thier careers/lives on that ship. Especially with the mass relays out of the picture, I can see the Normandy becoming even more important. It's already the fastest ship in the Alliance (fastest anywhere?). It would be the obvious choice for any experimental new engine tech. Can you say "Intergalactic Pony Express" :P

ETA: About retirement.  I'd much rather see both human Spectres running around more or less on their own, keeping the peace, than retired!Shep running around the neighborhood like a hyperactive boyscout looking for good deeds to do!

Speaking of kids, here's an good question. If Shep and Ash have kids, would they use the 'Williams' name and carry on her legacy rather than Shepard's? Or would your Shep's ego not allow that?

Ash is just starting to drag her family name out of the mud so it would be a shame for it to not live on.

That's a tough one. Ash strikes me as a traditionalist, and might want to take Shepard's name. Or keep her name, but the kids take his. I'd say by now, she's cleaned up the family name, and has several sisters who could potentially carry on the name. Or go with Williams-Shepard.

On the other hand, how many of our Shepards would gladly give his kids the Williams name so they don't have to grow up with the stigma and expectations that go with being the children of the Saviour of the Galaxy? At least try to give them a chance at a relatively normal childhood.

My Shepard and Ash split up a decade or so after the Reaper war, Shepard just completely breaks and one kid goes with Shepard, one with Ash.

I think Ash keeps her own name when she marries Edwin Shepard.

To be honest, I don't even think they get married until after Shepard decides to switch careers to diplomacy only.

This is kinda how i see it, Ash seems like a woman who would keep her last name when she's married.

I imagine any kid would have trouble living up to Shepard's legacy.  Not that many would expect them to but it's kinda like being the son/daughter of a celebrity/political figure.

I imagine that for the kid's own safety, Shepard would probably deny being the child's parent if it was inquired about, only the people he really trusts would know the kid is his... and Ash of course. Seriously, if it wasn't Shepard's kid, Ash'd have a helluva lot of explaining to do.

I think Ash would take name Shepard. Because this is act of trusting and approval.

Or Shepard will take surname Williams. Damn, I even a little bit envy mine's not Frank...
