Ash. Hmm. Hard to say, really, because I left her on Virmire, so relatively speaking it's metagaming overlay - I know something Shepard don't and even what I know based on YT videos and something I've been told by buddies (plus some personal ME3 experience).
Okay, let's assume she was on verge of suicide after you died, even if it's not mentioned anywhere, even by her (strange, by my opinion). Regardless, her all behavior makes so little sense till almost very end (that farewell in London), so... Damn, it's very difficult to discuss anything here, since by my opinion Ash was nearly murdered in ME2 (based on what I said above) and ME3 was coup de grace to finish her ME1 personality off.
I'm afraid I'm not kidding, since should I evaluate ME3 Ash I'd say she makes -273K sense. Even knowing game was released half-baked.
Yeah, I know, romance scene, London, but it doesn't makes sense to me.

Liara... Can't say she makes more sense than ME3 Ash, maybe -136.5K, not sure, but still not much. Liara start to lose her grasp (not sure on what - reality or commons sense) in ME2 for me, lose even more in LotSB and totally lost in ME3. "Very good info broker" gives us... what? Unknown thing from Mars? Maybe it's Reapers omnipleasure device they couldn't built on their own or ice-cream machine. But no - everybody seems to be building it. Reapers knows everything, yet somehow managed to let potentially dangerous thing to slip? While they destroyed "apparently "harmless" nuclear silos on Earth? May I disbelieve it?
But I digress. I'm still not sure how serious her feelings are. Still can't get rid of thought you still her favorite pet. Sort of. Of course, some of comes from assumption she is still "teenager" by asari standards (so you basically child molester if you "romance" her, more than that - you persistent criminal if you was "faithful" to her), thus junior (or youth or how else you call it?) maximalism and somewhat irate behavior.

tl;dr - I wouldn't rate "heavyweightness of loss" for those characters, really. If their feelings were sincere, then it doesn't matter, grief will be equal, because this time it will be final.

If you left her on Virmire why are you on here saying her relationship doesn't matter or make sense with Shepard? Most people on here are gonna have Ash as their LI and so will probably be understandably sorry for Ashley to lose Shepard for a second time but if you left on Virmire then obviously your relationship with her isn't gonna be as strong and she won't then see Shepard die twice.
If you save her though and she was your LI, then clearly the man she loves dying twice is gonna have a serious impact.
Plus I'm not talking about the characters throughout the game I'm just talking on how much Shepards second death is gonna effect those who have had to suffer through them.

Yes you can it's called discussion, we might not know for sure but we can make educated guesses such as Cortez probably isn't going to be as sad about Shepards death as a woman who has loved him since ME1 and saw him die at the start of ME2 just to have him come back and end up dying again!

Again, no one knows degree of fellings.
Also, IIRC escape pods do not have windows and, given ME2 reports, it's highly unlikely someone from Alliance actually saw Shepard after he ejected Joker's pod.
I do not argue with possible existence of Ashley's feelings towards Shepard's loss. Speaking of which - technically, shouldn't Liara report that to Alliance, without his body he should be MIA, not KIA. Not sure for Alliance's regs on that. Just 2 coppers to my notepad.
And speaking of display of feelings - from my ME3 experience I have strong impression it's Shepard who loves Ash, outside of couple of scenes Ash is pretty... Ah, let's end it like this, you won't argue with fact "Ash is pretty".

I always recieved the impression that Shepard approached 'love' for Ash very close to half-way, three-quarters way through ME1. It's why he's sounds so broken to the point of tears (listen, his voice nearly breaks) at the end of the Horizon scene. ME3, he's still loves with her and is very emotionally vulnerable when visiting her in the hospital for the first time. From a usually stoic individual, this is a huge deal. And when they talk, he's actually geniunely smiling and looks forward to her, even buying her favourite poetry and actively encouraging her to talk.

And the confession - the 'When I first met you on Eden Prime' version - I honestly got the impression that Shepard has loved or at the very least admired her since they rescued her from the Geth. And he's wanted to say that for three years.

And lest we forget the line on Mars
Shepard: *looking at Ashley.* There's so much on the line, I just think about what I'd lose if I failed...

Yeah? Jack, Kelly, Miranda? Not sure for Samara, but second row suggests "there is something too".

Jack- finally found someone dependable in Shepard, so she could be a "mess" (not even sure teaching biotic students would fill the void).

Kelly- never recovered from being kidnapped by the Collectors. Shep rescued her and to then have Shep taken away? I wouldn't be surprised if that only worsened her PTSD.

Miranda- the things that seem to matter most to her are her work (advancement of the human race, but unlike TIM, not at the expense of everyone else) and family (Oriana & romanced Shep). With the relays gone, unless she couldn't find a safe place for Oriana (since shortly after Sanctuary, the Reapers are in control of all the known systems she might not have been able to) and brought her to Earth as well, she's seperated from Ori long-term. So she has no family left and unless she can start a new STG-type organization, no work to throw herself into either. Quite possibly "a mess" as well.

Samara- no official relationship due to the Justicar Code. Though from what I've heard, if you're sufficiently paragon, could have a "very light" relationship. I'm assuming she is about 800-900 years old. Once Shep is gone, assuming there's still a Justicar Order left (unless one surviving Justicar is sufficient to restart the Order), she can resume carrying out the Code for approximately a century or two, then join Shep in the afterlife.

These are just my thoughts on four of them.
