That's pretty much why I'm joining though I have a somewhat decent job.

College is totally ridiculous here in the US. Unless you have a full ride, you're paying out the ass for student loans. I wasn't all that interested in College anyway, but it just made my decision easier. Only problem is the stupid ass President is cutting military jobs. Not like this country needs them or anything...

Are you in the US?

If so, good luck. It's such crap nowadays, makes me wish I was born a few years earlier. Back when they ordered the troop surge in 2006 it was easy as hell to get in. But now that the military is getting cut, MEPS pretty much has a stick up there ass and are turning away people for even the smallest reasons. Please vote in November... lol :?

Or we could just do what Shepard and Ash did. Flirt like hell, act professional, and wait until the tour is over, then bang. Except that didn't exactly happened like that for them, but I figured it would have if... you know... the whole suicide mission theme thing wasn't there. Posted Image

We could start an Ashley Williams military support branch and meet up lol

Well army was always something I was interested in from a boy running round pretending to be a soldier. My Dad is a Chaplain in the Army Cadets now, used to be army so I've always been fascinated

If thats off topic again then I apologise and here is my repentance:

About the whole "Pathfinder" designation/role, whatever it is. It makes me think of the pathfinders in the U.S army during WW2. They was regular Army>Rangers>Airborn Rangers>Pathfinders. They would deploy in the opposite order. Pathfinders drop in small numbers behind enemy lines, sneak to the actual drop point, and set a beacon. Then the paratroopers would drop in greater numbers, like shock troops. Ya, a bunch would get shot before they landed, but that's why they threw so many at the enemy. Aftey they secured a beachead, the regular army would move in. Now just imagine all that with ME tech.

My point being, that would make Ash pretty damn elite. First on the ground! And ya, I can see some friendly rivalry between Pathfinders and N7 commandos. Different roles though, and I don't see any reason they couldn't work together.

PS: this is all based off an interest in military history that has long since died down. I could be misremembering a bunch :P

No, you're right. The Canadian Forces have Pathfinders, but it is really hard to get into, just like the special forces. Its pretty elite, but it is one of my goals to do the course in the future (if I get the jump/airborne course at all that is).

I can also defiantly seeing the S1 designation involving the Alliance equivalent to Pathfinders...say S1 to S5 is basic orbital shock troopers, for traditional "airborne" assaults and recon (such as Survivor has mentioned), and S5-S7 is the Pathfinders. Ash could have set her eyes on becoming a Pathfinder, but only got past S1 before ME3.

Initially I was kinda going for the pathfinders thing with the S1 designation. Focused more on the shocktrooper aspect though (you're welcome to your own interpretation).

Yeah the Pathfinder designation with the Canadian Forces is one the most difficult to achieve though. Earning it grabs the attention of the reece companies and CSOR.

I imagined the N program representing the amalgamation of all of Earth's special forces and paratrooper traditions. I'd imagine the CF Pathfinders making their influence within the program.

Other than that eveyrone ok with my attempted S1 designation explanation?

I've been out of school for a year and I'm already more qualified than most. Got a certificate 3, 4 and a Diploma.

Just wish it was in creative writing.... I'm not the worst at it, but I'm by no means the best either.

Survivor: Oh sure, I can see Ash as a shocktrooper or "paratrooper" analogue. Works for me :D

Definitely would make sense with her career path, as in working her way up to a more elite role through hard work and experience. As opposed to, say, Shepard, who went right after the top spot by enrolling in the N7 program.

Dude, tell me about it. I got turned down because way back a doctor misdiagnosed me with something, she admitted it, got another doctor to verify that, and they still turned me down. My grades are phenomenal, my PT scores near perfect (though to be fair, the Army PT test is a joke), and I get DQ'ed over a condition that I don't even have. **** that.

That 's why I want to do it. I am rather ambitious...maybe a bit too ambitious.

Ya, the N7 program would utalize the techniques, tactics, etc., of all the great special forces, but the Alliance would also have different, but similar trades to work with for different operations, such as today.
The shocktrooper and pathfinder elements of the S1 branch can both be implemented if we are going to use your explanation in Project Phoenix. I am ok with it.

Yikes. Did you get a waiver from your recruiters to go back again? I've heard people having to go back 3 or 4 times until they had so much paperwork as evidence that they were perfectly fine that MEPS couldn't turn them away.

I would humbly like to submit my codex style entry for the Shockpod. If it helps please imagine Neil Ross reading it

Orbital Deployment Pod (Shockpod)
The brainchild of Admiral Gerrel Cutter, the Orbital Deployment Pod, nicknamed the “Shockpod” by its users, represent humanity’s unique contribution to intergalactic warfare. When faced with the fact that many worlds would have ground based anti-ship a, the Systems Alliance commissioned a three year study into increasing the effectiveness of its fleet. The Shockpod was the result of that study.

Initially derided as insane and a waste of resources, the Shockpod represents a massive leap in the integration of “alien” technology and humanity ingenuity. Built around a sizeable element zero core, the pod is capable of being launched via any Alliance warship’s escape pod delivery mechanism or missile launcher. With the onboard eezo core providing power to its shields, the pod is able to withstand atmospheric re-entry at speeds unimaginable before.

Seconds before impact, the eezo core reverses charge to reduce the mass of the pod and its occupant, while the onboard thrusters provide lift, in order to prevent the pod being smashed on impact. With enough supplies to support a trooper for extended combat, the Shockpod allows deployment of coordinated companies within minutes, a feat not yet matched by the rest of the civilized galaxy.

While derided by its critics whom note that the eezo core of the pod alone is worth the price of a gunship, supporters have noted that almost every operation involving the Shockpod has been success. The brutal battles of Torfan and the Theshaca Raids saw the deployment of the Shockpod and its troopers to a resounding success.
