Well I haven't played ME3 that often actually Example, I've played the other 2 games more but haven't yet finished those trilogies by playing the 3rd. Each one I play different so in a way each one is a different trilogy to me except romancing Ash, that I have to do. But I find ME3 too emotionally draining at the moment. But when I get Shepard to live this time I'll be happy and a small part of my grievences will be appeased. If EC doesn't give me the reunion I want I'll make it up.

Example I tried doing the same with my friends that you did with your family but they were stronger willed than I wished and they all went their own way, mostly Liara sadly so they all tell me how great she is and I am the only one defending Ashley lol

ME3 is emotionally draining. Every time Mordin or Anderson dies... the feels, man.

Ha, keep in my mind, these guys are hardcore cod & fifa players. I had to bribe them to play ME3. Surprisingly my Fam grew fond of Ash rather quickly on Mars when she said, "Can you see why I'm worried about you?" Then when she got battered by Eva they seemed to really develop an attachment to her. Ash kept them interested, and he always wanted to visit her in the hospital. I was watching them play it one day when the internet was off, it was raining and we were bored. This wasn't all that long ago.

After we played for a few hours, Ash was sidelined and I asked how do you like Liara, and his exact words, "Dunno. She's just always there."

So he didn't really have an opinion on her. Liara's date scene came up first and my bro wanted to be with Ashley. But he didn't think he could get her, so he was stuck on the decision for a while. Asking me all these questions. He said, “I don’t know. That doll's a hundred and nine.” Then went with Ash. It was funny watching him play it lol

Tali died in his game. He felt really bad after that, and didn't want to play anymore. He probably would have quit, if Ash hadn't have been drunk after that.

Watching his face when Ashley and Shepard's sex scene happened was priceless, I was lmao. It was basically, "Ah yeah." then the kiss fades to black and he sees Ash on the bed naked, and it turned into, "AHHHHHH YEAH!"

Afterwards, I asked him why he wasn't taking Ash to Cronos. He said, "I don't want her to die."

I said just take her.

"Naw, she's sleeping." lol

EDIT: My cousin on the other hand wanted to be with Ashley because she was "hot" and showed up first. >_>

Bioware's plan worked.

Cool story, bro.

Ashley: Blunt answer or a more sophisticated one?
Shepard: Just spit it out, Ash. Why are you here?
Ashley: For a nice special training with my CO. That's all.
Shepard: Guess that was the blunt one.
Ashley: No. The blunt answer is to grab you, push you against the wall and ...
Shepard: Mind if you come in again and pick the blunt answer then?
Ashley: Nope.

Ugh.
Worst dialogue ever - I'm out of ideas for now.

Hahaha, sounds quite familiar there Example. I didn't want to risk Ashley dying either.
My friend watched me play ME2 once, cause originally he lent me his copy before I bought it second hand, and he spent most of his time laughing at me! I was still pining after Ashley from ME1 so when I cheated with Tali he kept telling me how mad Ashley would be and she'd never fogive me. He scared me for a while but I kept arguing I could argue my way out of it. He laughed at me even more after I met Ashley on Horizon and I was gutted after it.

We all basically talk the same rubbish, you and me, and can understand it since you're from N.I. =P

Guess my Bro's like you then. Hah, it got to the point where he said he wasn't playing anymore if Ash died. Keep in mind this was a default save, and he had lost a lot of people he came into contact with, so he thought it was almost too easy for his squadmates to die.

Ever since he completed it, he hasn't played it since. He doesn't even understand ME lore and he hates the ending. I think he was expecting to see his team again, and it was disappointing that he didn't. He's really stuck into that fifa ultimate team now, so I can't see him going back to it for awhile, if ever.

Ugh Fifa, it and Battlefield 3 are what my brother is into atm. He loves the multiplayer stuff (he got gold I didn't). I keep telling him to play ME but any time he does he says it's boring and he doesn't like it then he gives up. That annoys me and I tell him to keep playing cause it's awesome and Ashley is fantastic but he just doesn't listen! My other brother played and liked all the games but he didn't even romance anyone throughout! What an idiot!!! I'm the only one I know who has played ME who likes Ashley...the only one!!!

I think Ashley suffers because her original writer wasn't there to continue. He left after ME2. Ashley's original writer also wrote Thane which probably explains how Thane's arc wasn't well received by his fan base. Shame.

Yeah, I hear you. That's exactly what my bro said too, when he's never even played it once, but he kept on claiming it was “sh*t” anyway. He's more of Cod & Fifa player, than a BF3 one. But yeah, definitely a multiplayer gamer, who has a party filled with clan buddies and whatnot. I don't think he understood my fascination with it, until I made him play it though.

I couldn't get him to play ME2 at all. He hated it. Said it was boring.

At least now, he no longer says ME3 is “crap” like he used to, though.

It wasn't that difficult to get my bro to romance Ash. He wanted to on his own ever since Mars. At first, he joked and said he was doing gay sex in ME3, and wanted to know when he would meet his boyfriend lol. Then it turned out, that he absolutely hated Cortez because he came off an annoying whiner to him. "Looking for pity mate, ain’t getting it.” Cortez died in that save as expected.

I don't know how I'll get him to play it again. He'd rather be mouthing off to someone over the headset.

Agreed. I can't pin-point what it is that feels off about ME3 Ashley, but she feels incomplete, that's all I know.

When does Cortez die? But I can't even persuade my brother with the romance scenes, he just doesn't care, the fool!

Xeranx, yea that seems to be the big reason behind it. Such a pity cause he wrote both Ashley and Thane so well. Thane was one of my fav characters from ME2. Am I right in saying that was Drew Karpyshyn? He was a great writer

@Rudy - I laughed at the Hasek reference. I heard he wants to come back over to North America and play again too...

I know I'm late to the discussion but my Shepard felt discriminated against. There was no ZZ Top beard option to choose from.

You: Look sex in a video game!
Your Brother: Don't care. Got porn.

Like that? lol

Cortez can die if you ignore him basically. My brother hated him, and did exactly that. He had a habit of talking out loud to the characters when he's playing. Rare.

Just After Javik awakens and walks off.

Ashley: What... the hell did he just do?
Shepard: I think he read my mind.
Ashley: Just by you touching his shoulder?
Shepard: Apparently so.
Ashley: *scoffs* What are we - something out of a bad Sci-fi novel?
Shepard: You live on a spaceship, are sleeping with a biotic and are trying to save the galaxy from evil machine overlords.
Ashley: .... So? Next you'll be telling me that the crucible craps dark matter.
Shepard: To be fair, we actually don't know what it does. Hell, it could manipulate dark matter for all we know.
Ashley: *facepalm* Point missed.

Haha... Arbitrary skeptism.... God I need a sleep. Night guys.

You mean I'm the only one who has "Sharp Dressed Man" playing in his head when wearing the dress blue uniform?

Well I always have Shepard in his dress uniform. I like the formality of it and when he dances in it at Purgatory it looks very funny! I usually make him walk very slowly with a bad ass tune in my head...that probably explains why my games last so long lol

Actually, Drew wrote Liara.  Chris L'Etoile wrote both Thane and Ashley.

I thought Thane was interesting, but the dialogue phrase for Thane's romance ("I want you") path stopped me from going forward.  Seems I dodged a bullet there.

Oh ok, I appreciated his books. Might also explain why I liked Liara in ME1 but afterwards just thought something changed in her and she didn't feel the same.

Well I was Mshep and wasn't romancing Thane so I'm not sure what he's like as a LI, he was a great friend though. I try to stay loyal to Ashley but in one of my run throughs Shepard felt lonely and depressed after Horizon and needed someones shoulder to cry on...turned out to be Tali.

Shepard's walk looks strange. Like his legs is broken, in ME3. :)

I actually preferred the way that Sylvia Feketekuty wrote Liara in LotSB & ME3 ... not having the original writer isn't a bad thing if the next writer gets the character. There wasn't anything that I saw in ME3 that didn't sound like Ash but her content was lacking. I was really hoping to see her move around the ship and have more dialogue with Shepard (romanced or not). But given all the characters/stories that they were trying to tie up its not surprising that the game missed alot of marks.

In Mass Effect 2/3 it seemed like most of the female squaddies were sexed up in some way - Miranda, Jack, Samara/Morinth, Liara's boob-job, Ashley, the Sexbot and whilst she's not a squaddie there's that thing in Zaaed's old room (don't know what an embedded reporter did to merit a double bed, I seriously hope Wrex and the Primarch got better accommodation than her when they were onboard).

Oh and FemShep, though Bioware failed in a big way with that horrid hooker dress

So why do all the men have bodies sculpted like Brad Pitt? I find that rather sexist.

Because BW is too lazy to design separate body models for made characters? Anyway, it's not the same as the female characters in-game. Most of the male characters are covered up outside of romance scenes and don't wear ridiculous clothing
They NOT there to appeal to women, they look that way to appeal to male gamers who want to look that way

Men fitting the stereotype of having rock hard bodies isn't the same as female characters being sexy? We got shirtless Kaidan in the hospital(they buffed him up I see), James is walking around with a skintight shirt highlightin all them muscles and is also seen shirtless, Thane's open jacket is the equivalent of Samara, Jacob's suit is as tight as Miranda's, Grunt and Zaeed both have cut-off sleeves(gotta show off dem biceps).

I'm just saying, why do you only attack the females? As if male squaddies aren't sexed up in some way also.
And I think women would disagree with you about it not appealing to them.

Kaidan only got buffed up because they buffed up MShep. Apart from that scene in the hospital he was covered up in my game.
I must not have gotten the scene where Thane had a pair of ******.
It took me ages to realise that Jacob's suit was as tight as Miranda's, must have been the lack of BW having his arse take up most of the screen.
Vega? I noticed there was some sort of primate grunting "Eh" at me when I went down there - he wasn't designed to appeal to women, he was designed to appeal to the GOW brigade. He's pretty unappealing to look at with his oversized neck.

I can't believe you're bringing up Grunt as being sexed up.

Yeah, some of the male squaddies are sexed up, but they're nowhere near as sexed up as the women.

When we get this in-game I'll get back to you

Miranda got the worst treatment in that field. She got reduced to her ass - period.

Isn't her optional armour in ME2 (DLC one) changes that?

Yes, but you have to PAY for it. Her loyalty outfit is apparently tighter than her default outfit but I've heard people say it de-emphasises her arse and the toe doesn't show up in it

Rudy Lis wrote...

BadExamp1e wrote...

Hmph. In ME3 Ashley's breasts looked so ridiculous in her blue armor... Too big. She's shows up on Horizon pretty much flat chested in comparison, then WAM! Bioware pump her up for ME3.

Liara got same treatment, IIRC. Not sure for femShep.

FemShep got a boob job as well, there's a picture showing her from the side over the course of the three games, she's definately been increasing over the three games

BadExamp1e wrote...

But if BW suddenly decided to give FemShep some of their classic "sex appeal" then I assume things would catch fire around these parts. Many women would probably feel that there isn't a need for it - and there isn't. There isn't any reason I can see, that would explain them pumping up Ash's chest for ME3 other than to please the men.

They did give FemShep some of their classic "sex appeal". MShep gets that awesome leather jacket yet FemShep gets the horrid hooker dress
