New plotholes? Are you kidding me?
Are you seriously going to complain about something so minimal? That's a thing that happens in EVERY game, it's called plot armor. It would make no sense for the Normandy to be wiped out right there because you would be complaining about that.

If EMS is low enough (and I mean really low), it would be pretty dramatic for the Normandy to get destroyed by Harby right there and then. And, the only way for Shepard to survive the explosion is to go through the beam with Anderson. It would have been gut wrenching experience.

@Examp1e: Sure, but if I were Harby, I would have blown the Normandy out of the sky, since I know how Shepard would have been affected by that. Psychological warfare at its finest.

And we really shouldn't fight over something like that. We have Ash. We have Skipper. We want to reunite them. So be it!
Besides that - lemme a way to think about EDI for my fanfic, hm? You'll like or hate it. Or it won't ever get finished *g*

Ash knows her Skipper is still alive.
I cried during that entire scene. It was so touching and beautiful.

You said that EDI could spare herself by shutting herself down? Then what about the reapers that are “inactive” and “protected” (because there are a few buried away places) as well? A few which would still be more than enough to harvest the battered population, I’m sure. Not to mention the threat you're instantly bringing back into the galaxy by creating more synthetics again. Except this time, there will be no overlords to stop them from wiping us humans out.
It doesn't make sense to me, if you've already made the choice to sacrifice the Geth.
But hey, if you’re writing a story, you can head canon whatever you want, just don’t expect other people to believe it, too. I can't wrap my head around it, personally. My Shepard will suck it up and accept it. He's lost a lot during the war, the Geth will just be added to that total.

Seriously think her new writer made a mistake by not using that line casually at least once.

Right, and you know what ? As LC she is now in command of the normandy. Next stop: Earth / Citadel. Searching Shepard.

Which is a bad time for her to ONLY use her old, fond nickname for Shepard...
Besides, I wasn't allowed to talk her down. I'm not sure I got it.
It would have been nice for her to say it just once, casual and happy, like old times.

It would be a really strange universe, where Shepard was reconstructed from "meat and tubes", and AI just can't be.
Back to destroy - it wasn't obvious for Shep that he will destroy all geth, starkid didn't say that directly, so for me it was a great risk. The choice priority wasn't even staying alive, because the Catalyst warned Shep about danger. The priority was ending it once for all. And since the day one, it was destroying them. Catalyst was supposed to be nothing more than a weapon, not a control device.
And in my opinion, Ashley would do the same. The plan was simple - destroy them, or they'll destroy us.

Sometimes it can get violent 'though.
A theory. No need to follow it - but give it a try.You said that EDI could spare herself by shutting herself down? Then what about the reapers that are “inactive” and “protected” (because there are a few buried away places) as well? A few which would still be more than enough to harvest the battered population, I’m sure. Not to mention the threat you're instantly bringing back into the galaxy by creating more synthetics again. Except this time, there will be no overlords to stop them from wiping us humans out.
What's the BIG difference between a Reaper and a Geth, besides the different level of advancement? Or what do Geth and EDI have in common Reapers don't have with those two?
Three guesses.
Or I'll give you the answer:
The Geth are programs.
EDI is a program or several programs
They're no physical entity, however, they possess vessels to move and interact with their environment. The Normandy is EDI's "cluster" where she resides, quite similar to the Geth-Clusters where the Geth reside if not uploaded on a mobile platform. They're not bound to a certain body (technically, EDI is, the Geth aren't, but that's another story).
However, the Reapers feel as if they're no longer programs that can move from one body to another. They're not even real AI's - they're based on the essences of the species they harvest and condense into ONE particular Reaper. The "AI" (or ascended organic intelligence) of a Reaper is more a legion of AIs bound to a certain body and they can't turn themselves off like EDI or Geth could do to preserve damage.
That also explains why no Reaper truly dies as long as there's energy left to keep parts of its body active. The AIs reside in that body, they can't switch themselves off or they might die (well, maybe that's what the Crucible does) since there's no way to switch them "on" again. Think of the Reapers as carriers of souls. The souls need that carrier to exist. They can't leave it. They're bound to its existence. And now it ceases to exists. The souls residing in the damaged parts may die, but others in intact parts may still live - well, until they get the signal to die.
Got my concept? The synthetics we're know are programs. The Reapers are closer to organics than synthetics and the duality between their "souls" and the "vessels" doesn't exist. They're one unity.
So they can't turn themselves off to survive the kill switch. EDI and Geth can.
Big difference here.
That's an entirely different point. It doesn't make sense to me, if you've already made the choice to sacrifice the Geth.
Well, I usually have some ideas to get stuff working. But hey, if you’re writing a story, you can head canon whatever you want, just don’t expect other people to believe it, too. I can't wrap my head around it, personally. My Shepard will suck it up and accept it. He's lost a lot during the war, the Geth will just be added to that total.

Why would I cheat on Ash, when she's the best?
Nah man, she just turned on Udina without me having to convince her. I didn't have to "talk her down"
She just gave Shepard this look, then turned on Udina. "Step away from the console."

I've always had to do the one paragon convo choice right away. The "you know me" one.
And yeah, I think she calls him skipper right there.

Maybe. I usually take the the renegade option during the coup. Ashley seems to jump in line when you renegade her more. Some renegade options are a no-go though. Renegade royally sucks in ME3.
Still, it would have been nice for her to say Skipper just ONCE like old times in a pleasant setting. Not in that situation that we get, and can ONLY get.

Sorry, still doesn't fly with me.
Also, Shepard is partly synthetic and can apparently survive the change. The Geth aren’t, and they can’t.
If Shepard, and even all technology are affected - face it buddy, so are the Geth and EDI. They destruct.

Why didnt the Locust kill Marcus Fenix? Plothole!!
Why didn't Shepard make nachos? Plothole!!
