Everytime I see this I think Ash has such beautiful brown eyes! I wish they weren't partially obscured by her hair/Shepard's shadow (Kaidan does not have this problem when he farwells Femshep).

Hey guys.  I jotted down the short beginnings of a post ME3 fic I'm going to continue.  Chapter 1 is up here if you feel so inclined.  Unsurprisingly it's Ash/Shepard themed.  Also there are EC spoilers so...   You have been warned.

;)

damn.... thats good.. thats really good!!:o

can't wait for the next chapter!

As I read this, I actually listened to this song www.youtube.com/watch... and it made your fic even more beautiful.

Just a few thoughts now that I've finished the EC.

Pretty good patch job, but still a patch job. The endings were presented better, although I still don't like the concepts behind them. But, I enjoyed it and mostly got what I wanted out of it.

Well, my main issue is still the Starchild. I figured out three ways how to replace Starchild without hurting the rest of the endings.
One idea was to replace it with a Station VI that has nothing to do with the Reapers. It's part of the Crucible/Citadel connection and has only one job: explain the three options.
Or put TIM at Starchild's position. He's already on board, he's an established character and he's one of two that most likely KNOW all three (or four) options. Shepard simply gets the explanation what option does what from TIM and stops him before he picks "Control".
Or: No choices at all. One button. And Renegade grants you CONTROL, a Neutral allignment Synthesis and Paragon Destruction while higher levels of EMS give you a better result, more lives saved and such.

Chose Destroy, naturally. It's what Shepard and crew started out to do since day one, and I followed through. After millions of years of slaughter, it had to be done. That, and I asked myself "What would Ash want me to do?" Frak the Reapers, that's what. The control ending was creepy as hell, and I don't know if she'd even recognize the entity formely known as Shepard. All the humanity was gone, sounded like just another AI. And synthesis? Who am I to play god, altering all life as we know it? Those two endings just didn't feel right to me.

As I said: Destruction is Shepard's path, Control is TIM's way and Saren stands for Synthesis. Also Anderson and Hackett support Destruction over any other way. They know, as long as the Reapers are around, there is a way they might return to their old cycle solution.

Also Destruction is the only ending where the galaxy is truly free and can create its own destiny. With Control and Synthesis, this is not really possible, even if Shepard!AI / EDI say so.

And is it just me, or did it seem like the Destruction ending got the short end of the stick? Sure, the post-war galaxy seemed to be doing ok. Rebuilding, alliances, progress and all that. But the other two endings make it seem like things were going to be sooooo much better now that the Reapers are our friends, now that hybrid beings will come together and hold hands in some utopian lovefest. Certainly seems like those were the favored endings.

Well, depends on what you like more. I rather have a realistic future than an utopian "lovefest". Besides that, Control and Synthesis have built in a high risk of turning into "crapsack worlds" one day. Destruction does have that risk too, but on a lesser extend.

Still: high-EMS Destruction Ending feels like total victory to me. Technology is still around, the Relays can be repaired, the Reapers are gone. No "dark age" awaits.
Low-EMS Destruction on the other hand is pretty much "dark age" - and a doomed galaxy.

Control and Synthesis don't have such downer endings or punish you for low EMS since they're not available then. And as soon as they're available, the damage done can be repaired much easier thanks to the Reapers. Of course they feel less dark than the Destruction Ending since in the later one the galaxy's species have to rebuild everything on their own and 'though there's no dark age, they still will have to go through a time of struggles.

Also, before I forget. I had kinda head-canoned a way around EDI and the Geth getting killed. I figured now that they were evolved into true individuals, now that they "had souls", they might have been differentiated from the Reapers. Maybe the pretty red explosion wouldn't affect them. Now, not only does the Starbrat specifically point out that they'll be killed too, but EDI's name is up on the memorial wall. Hard to head-canon around that.

But! Had a nice scene with Ash during the final charge, and her hesitation to put Shep's name on the wall, so it's hard to be too grumpy right now :P

Geth & EDI are a bit tricky, but somewhere in this thread I posted an idea how to get them back. And no, it's not the soul thing for them. It has to do with the fact EDI/Geth are programs with mobile / stationary platforms while Reapers are vessels for ascended souls they harvested.
The Reapers are in that field much closer to organics than synthetics in my eyes.

In the midst of the charred battlefield, surrounded by corpses and the stench of burning flesh - time stopped as two lovers looks into each other's eyes. Sounds of the chaos around them faded to white noise, eventually nothingness. Their joined gaze spoke louder than words, a silent promise therein before they part. No matter the distance seperating them, that until the end of days, each's heart would only ever belong to the other.

Apologises for my absences. Been writing all week.
Trying to get Duet Effect 3 up by the time I go to bed. Got about 1k words, trying to go for 1.5-2k.

EDI's dead. In my head canon, she get's replaced with a new AI, ALFRED, a sort of "twin brother." Turns out the SR-2 only functions at full capacity if it has one, so the Council grants an exception, on the condition that the SR-2 be reserved as a ship for human Spectres.

I feel bad for EDI and the geth, but it's just one of those things. It's more important for me to be rid of the lousy Reapers forever. And for Shepard and Ash to be togehter.

(NOTE: I have no clue what ALFRED stands for. Just thought it'd be a cool name for a male AI)

All the endings suck in some way. That's the point of 'bittersweet'... though, I Don't think I'll be choosing Synthesis for my Bro!Shep... Ash just looks too goddamn unnatural.

Destroy for main Bro!Shep, though he'll forever fell guilty for it afterwards (alternate Bro!Shep picks control.)
Fem!Shep picks Synthesis... don't ask me why, don't ask me what she's thinking because quite frankly, I haven't developed her enough for that.

With everything that has happened to me in the last few weeks, I'm glad I can escape here. To escape the pressure of everyday life and becoming a father, I walked into a kids store the other day and saw the prices... My god, the price to raise a kid is shocking.but above all, I want to thank everyone who gives me a good laugh and something good to read. :)

Mind if I ask you if the new endings have some impact on your story then? You know ... the Shepard siblings.

Yeah, they will. I'm planning to have four seperate versions of the endings. Obviously one for each, and their own epilogue...
Already have a pretty cute/funny one for Destroy. And I don't mind sharing.

Shepley and Shenko decide to have a get-together about a decade or so after the Reaper war and everything's mostly rebuilt - at this point the seperate partners are married and are now a family in both the legal and emotional sense. They decide for sh!ts and giggles to get drunk and watch the 'hollywood' version of their adventures.

They last about twenty minutes:

M!Shepard was sick to his stomach with the inaccuracies at five to the point of literally table-flipping. The producers kept portraying him as a sleezy womanizer that flirts with anything that moves, something that he found deeply offensive and completely the opposite of his personality.
F!Shep's involvement was completely cut out from the movie. She's deeply angered by this.
Kaidan was reduced to a whiny wreak. The only thing he thought the producer got right were the migraines.
Ashley was reduced to a highly racist bigot that literally bible-bashed. She was as pissed as the rest of them.

They are all deeply offended and decide to write a drunken angry letter to the producers, then watch Star Trek instead.

Well, that fits to him - me like, Aurora :)

Gimme a try (John & Jane for m!Shep and f!Shep - I won't use yours) ^^

John: That's nonsense. That movie is total nonsense ...
Jane: Kinda ... I think it's funny.
John: That "John Shepard" isn't me. Period. I'm no stupid womanizer ...
Ashley: Oh, wouldn't say that ... you had your ways those days ...
Jane: Indeed, he had. And the movie is quite accurate - you was like that at high school ... and at college too.
Kaidan: Really? Mind to tell us a story?
John: No.
Jane: In the last class John had 20 girlfriends. Nearly every two weeks a new one. I think I get the names together ... well ... we had two Cindys, a Bridget, a Lara and two Lauras. Also I'm sure you had an Ashley, a Wendy and if I remember correctly you got Heather too. Wait ... not Heather. Her sister ... uhh ... Zoe. Yeah. And a lot more. In one year.
Ashley: Well, seems someone had an impressive score then *amused*
Kaidan: And that's only one year.
John: Not fair, sis ...
Ashley: Bet my Skipper joined the army just to avoid all those girls.
Jane: He did.
John: Sis!
Ashley: So no "I wanted to do something for the Alliance" but "I'm a coward and rather get shot than get haunted by my exes?"
Kaidan: Smart move, eh ...
Jane: The best is: John even tried to get in the pants of his drill instructor. You know, that pretty latina. You never told me if you were successful ...
John: No.
Ashley: C'mon, you can tell us. I'm not jealous or something.
John: Okay. I was successful. Well, what was her name again ... think it was Frances Martinez. Yeah ... Staff Lieutenant Martinez.
Ashley: ... Frances Martinez? My cousin?! You did my cousin too?!
Kaidan: I didn't see that coming.
Jane: Wow.
Ashley: I was wrong. I -am- jealous now. You did my beautiful cousin too?!

Dun dun dun duuuuuuuuuuuuuunnnnn!

Yeah. My Shepards in Duet Effect, neither of them placed a really high emphasis on relationships growing up. Spent most of their time trying to survive. They've done the deed before, but M!shep's first commited relationship ended badly (She cheated on him.). Fem!Shep broke hers off with a shotgun round to the guy's face because the guy was a Shadowbroker agent trying to recruit her.

I still like the idea your John Shepard did a cousin of Ashley too - which also was his drill instructor. You know - small universe ;)

Ouch for fem!Shep's BF. A slug right into the face? Minced meat anyone?

Well, it happens if I pull a joke or two.

Let's think of that m!Shepard as some kind of "Captain Bizarro" to "Captain Hero" - okay, maybe a bad idea since Captain Hero is twisted already. I have a twisted Shepard in my mind that's more pervy and ruthless than my normal Shepard.

Maybe I should introduce him to you one day?

Not needed.  It was heavily implied.  I personally feel that they could never do it to the satisfaction of everyone so that sort of thing is best left to the imagination and fan fic.  As great as they are, if Bioware actually did make a reunion scene people would complain that it wasn't exactly how they pictured it.

I thought the EC ending was perfect.

Ashley is my favourite character since the beginning of the Mass Effect Universe! I tried the romance with Tali, Liara and Garrus, just to satisfy my curiosity, but I prefer to be in love with Ashley, because she is so damn beautiful. That woman got heart and soul and that's what I love about her! Ashley forever!!!

In a way you're right 'though I don't think the EC was "perfect". However, the reunion was more than hinted. What do we get?

- Shepard's breath scene
- Ashley's scene when she doesn't put Shepard's name on the wall, believing he's still alive
- the Normandy take-off

Well, that's pretty much what a lot of guys here demanded from BW. Or more precisely: BW set some things right that made a reunion unlikely in first place: the crashlanded, heavily damaged Normandy and the total destruction of the Mass Relays and much speculations if FTL and other advanced technology was still available.
Now we see tech is still there, FTL travel is possible, the Normandy isn't damaged in the high EMS ending, the Relays can be repaired.

From "doomed to dark age" to "time of struggles with a bright future", so to speak. And Shepley reunion is possible for us.

Shepard's story, however, is done. I doubt he can fully recover.

Even if Shepard could physically recover, there's no way in hell he would be allowed back on active duty because he's been through an emotional hell over the past 6 years. If anything, that's gonna catch up with him and slap him in the face all at once... maybe even ending with a breakdown or two.

He's plagued by survivor's guilt, and probably has the mentality that he should have died in the last battle, even with an LI to come back to.

I think mass effect won't be the same anymore without Shepard, or Ashley and the other major characters.

I see the endings as this since my logic took the better of me for two seconds. You either sacrifice EDI for Shepard, or Shepard for EDI. Because they can't live in the same ending, one of them is dead in each ending. It's sad to admit but it's true.

I also don't think they should do a prologue story of Shepard because it wouldn't make sense and it would suck. (that's my opinion of that option).

True, ME has become so engrained as 'Shepard's Story' that it feels wrong to not have Shepard or his companions in it, or as major characters.

I hope they might be able to pull a revive in the future, but I doubt it'll happen.
