People are selecting Allers I'd guess in part due to anger over the site her voice actor is affiliated with (wrote some insulting stuff about fans upset by the endings) and in part because we got Allers instead of Emily Wong.

Well personally that means nothing to me cause I hadn't heard anything about her voice actor and I'd completely forgotten who Emily Wong even is.

To me I just think she's pointless and I can't understand some of the people I hear trying to defend her but I suppose each to their own.

It would have been cool to see her interviewing others, or in Ashley's case trying to interview her, and hearing some dialogue between them but you don't get that so why bother with her?

Top Ash, thought this was quite funny:

I wonder how an interview would go down between Allers and Ashley?

If I hadn't to go to bed, I would write one, survivor, but it's late ...
Goodnight everyone ... let's see what the new day brings.

@ Danny: that Ashley looks cute. And fluffy. ^^

I can't imagine Ashley willingly accepting an interview. She's a soldier. She doesn't have to agree to one. So the only way I see it happening is if a reporter pushed a camera in her face without consent.

However, if Allers brings up her Grandfather Ashley will see red.

Fluffy? Now that's not an adjective I've heard about Ashley before lol

I would like to hear some Allers/Ashley dialogue too. I just don't think Ashley would interview well and by that I mean I think she'd hate being interviewed and give simple short answers.

This just floors me. A bit of fun. Love to know what you guys vote. :P

it sickens me how female characters are treated by this fan base. I would never leave a civilian reporter ebhind on a military mission. Ashley and Kaidan are prepared to take thoe risks, Allers is not.

What are you talking about???

People don't hate Allers because she's female, they hate her because she's an absolutely awful character. Bioware tried to make her this sexy reporter or something but ended up making her so (f)ugly to the point where she draws comparisions to Jersey Shore. Her voice actor did a terrible job as well.

I don't know where you get the notion that female characters are treated negatively by the fan base. If anything, they're treated more positively than male characters. If you mean how Bioware treats female characters, I'm right on board with you (EDI, sexifying Ashley, the camera angles for Miranda...) But the fans? I don't understand that at all sorry. Hell, the most popular threads in this sub-forum are ones for female characters.

If you talk to Allers after the coup she dose mention that she and Ashley had a chat or interview about her past

Allers mentions talking to Ashley, so maybe she did interview her. I'd want an interview with the second human Spectre, Council bodyguard during the Coup attempt, SR1 crew member, and General Williams granddaughter. Ratings indeed.

Allers says something about death following Ash around. I can't remember exactly, but Ash does seem to have a mysterious black cloud hanging over her head.

I wish we could've watched an edition of The BattleSpace. From a screen on the Citadel or from Shepard's Omni-Tool had the Omni-Tool been been used similarly to Fallout's Pip-Boy. Being able to listen to in-game news and access the Extranet or Alliance records for information from the Omni-Tool would've been great.

Holy hell?

Well, since the coup in a big way is about Shepard & Ashley, I'm thinking just a chat... and probably about her past with Shepard... leaving out most of the details if you romanced her, though. :P

I can't picture Ash wanting to give an interview and having millions watch it straight after the coup...

Death seems to follow the whole crew around, not just Ash.

Garrus hasn't exactly had a peaceful time dancing in the meadows either.

Yeah. Ashley isn't a death magnet. It's Shepard. Wherever he goes, things have a tendency to explode, people die, getting killed either by Shepard, his squad or, if civilians, by the guys Shepard and his squad intend to take out.

It's not Ashley. It's Shepard.

I guess Ash is more mature and calm than she was let's say in ME1 when that Terra Firma guy meets them at the citadel and talsk about Shanxi.
If Allers was to approach Ash then and ask questions about gen. Williams then we wouldn't meet Allers in ME3 or at least not in this shape

If you're in Journalism like I am, she's a great character. She's an incredibly professional reporter, doesn't have blind side queston like Al-jilani, and she has loyal viewers from all races in the galaxy. She knows what she's reporting about and how to get more information without being mean about it. bioware didheir job by making her a competent reporter, but no no one sees that and THEY decide to just see her as a sexed up reporter modeled after a famous person instead of the great journalist she is that is literally volunteering to help you out when you need to get support. Her voice actor, a reporter, played a reporter so it's actually great since you have to be even keel to do the news which is the vast majority of Diana's lines.

The Fans come in when you see video after  video of Shepard, sometimes male, punching a woman who's doing her job of being a tabloid journalist and it's jsutified for this combat trained hulk of a man to assualt her when she's done nothing. . eople talk about venting Allers ino space just because her voice actor and fac emodel are someone they don't like. That's MURDER. Bioware's crime is trying to make her pretty and getting a charcter with IRL star power since most of us know who Jessica Chobot is. The fans promote violence and murder against women whichsi just as bad as the sick part of he fan base that lieks to read, write, and draw Ashley getting raped by Aliens for being "a racist". That's incredibly mysogynistic and it sickens me to no end.Posted Image

Allers doees get some sort of conversation with Ashley after the coup and I pln on expanding on it in Guns and Poems to see how Ashley would handle being on camera after such a big event.Posted Image

Yeah, but Ashley's a solider, and she's got one hell of a reputation and record.

Most people don't know what Garrus did on Omega.

Well, given the fact what reporters did to their own profession, we rather skip the topic and move on to something less frustrating. *g*
(Yeah, only politicians and bankers are less loved than reporters ... at least here in Germany. Not sure about rest of world).

Goodnight everyone. This time, it's final.

@ MBE: Eden Prime is nothing.
Earth.
Okay, technically Ash was on that planet too, but Shepard was around, so it's a bit unclear.

So you basically admit it has nothing to do with her being female... you just contradicted yourself.

People don't like Allers because what her role was in the game could have easily been done by a character that was already in the ME universe; Emily Wong. For all the traits you listed for Allers at the beginning of your post, applied to Wong too. But no, Bioware/EA/IGN...whoever decided it'd be great to throw a "sexed up" Chobot in our faces instead and killing off Wong on twitter.

As for what you said about Ashley, I've never seen any of that and quite frankly I'm not interested in doing so either. Hint: Stupid people exist in society.

EDIT: Nevermind, I'm not going to get in a debate with you, can see there wouldn't be any convincing you otherwise either. I'm done doing that today. Was talking with somebody earlier today about the health care law so I'm all "argued" out for today.

@Data; Doesn't matter, you know Ashley will still blame herself for those people's deaths. Eden Prime, Horizon, Virmire, the Citadel, Earth ect.

*Is still here ...*

Makes sense. The introduction of Allers in ME3 was not the best move since BW already had an established reporter character.

There was only one reason why BW added Chobot as Allers in the game: extra points from IGN, some fanservice and that's it. Technically, there was no need to introduce a new character.

If Allers had her own unique story and more impact on Shepard, including a -real- romance OR romancing Vega or some other dude on board, things would have made much more sense.

Basically fans despise Allers of what she represents, not what she is:

- A second rate character, added in simple to gain brownie points with IGN
- The use of a "reviewer" in a video game, reeks of unprofessional behavior
- Given the rushed schedule for ME3, Allers represents a waste of talent and time that could have been used on more established or interesting characters.
- Her clothing is almost blatantly eye -candy and her character doesn't have any real redeeming features that add wrinkles to her facade.

I think Allers was referencing the loss of the 212 and perhaps Kaidan on Virmire. Maybe Shepard's death, maybe even her father's death. It's not clear. There has been a lot death, a lot of loss in Ash's life recently. You could even count Thomas, her brother-in-law, as his death had a big impact on her and her sister Sara, their relationship.

Death closes all... Ash has almost died quite a few times in the series, also. Had a few close calls.

No doubt she's been rather unlucky. I mean, she has a few highlight reel worthy accomplishments and memories, but there's been a lot of tough sledding in the life and times of Ashley Williams. Eden Prime, Virmire, Horizon, Mars, the Coup Attempt. That's just what we know about. I remember in ME1 she says bad things happen to her but she just doesn't tell anyone about it and if you stayed with her long enough she might tell you about some of them. Short end of the stick, indeed.
