I hate Ash with a passion. She's a xenophobe that's just mad her grandpa surrendered to aliens and is letting her feelings get in the way of basic logic. It's so juvenile to expect all aliens to be out to get humanity, I don't care how easy on the eyes she is. She's a...bad person.

No, she doesn't let her feelings get in the way. Was it a problem? No. Well then. The girl was just voicing her concern. She only brings up doubts about these 'aliens' because they're complete strangers on an advanced, classified ship. Ash agrees to work with them with no trouble at all and says, "It's not a problem." And it wasn't.

Weren't you listening? She's also not mad at Aliens for what happened to her Grandfather. She's mad at the public and the Alliance for their reaction, when her grandfather did the right thing. Pay attention and catch up.

And she's not a bad person. The complete opposite more like.

Those holding grudges aren't typically vocal about their grudges and the actual reasons behind them. You honestly think she didn't have any anti-alien bias? Don't even get me started about her behavior in 2 and 3 with your Cerberus affiliations.

Everyone looks out for their own species first. That's the way it goes.

Weren't you listening there, too? Cerberus is pro-human. Ashley calls them extremists. She won't work for a terrorist group that's out for just humanity and steps on everyone else to achieve that.

Well, I said it before in ME2: too many new guys, too many redundant guys. Results are known: out of the bunch, only Mordin and Legion had something like a role. Miranda's story doesn't add anything to the game, Thane has one good moment, most characters of ME2 got sidelined to a single secondary mission you easily can ignore without harming the story.

Perhaps alienating the rest of the character fandoms isn't the best idea.  I'm an Ash fan but I'm just as much (more?) of a Miri fan.  It's possible to like something without actively putting down something else.

Well, I said BW sidelined most of the ME2 characters. And technically, Miranda is one of the characters that was very defining of ME2, therefore should have gotten a bigger role in ME3. Instead, she got a minor role, reducing her character a lot.

Hey, I'm a Miri fan on my own.

I won't call names here of "redundant guys" in ME2 / ME3 since it IS hurting people. I'm just stating a lot of guys were redundant in a way things could have done without them, story- and gameplay-wise. Miranda, however, is not among the "redundant guys", for example.

^That's true Example she does refuse to join that humanity only, extremist group. But don't let the truth get in the way of false accusations and slander.

I would also ask how many alien species loved humanity and would act any different if it was vice versa?

Does Ashley not also say Tali (an alien I believe) is like a sister to her? And that's coming from someone who is very very close with her family and has sisters already. But again you might as well just brush over the facts as long as it makes Ashley look bad

BSN LOGIC: Doesn't work for Cerberus?

Is racist.

Ah, yeah. But you all forget Ashley isn't allowed to grow and move passed that like other characters throughout the series. So let's all get back to ignoring Tali's full blown racism in 1 & 2. Posted Image

You know, Ashley's dog/bear metaphor gets validated in ME2 and ME3. Human colonies get abducted and the coucnil refuses to get involed since it's ONLY humanity, a council race. earth gets a massiv reapr invasion and the council only cares that they need to protect their homes instead of getting the Reapers at earth so the majority of their forces cna be gone before they can leave Earth to hit the other planets. Earth is the last world visited of the council homeworlds to get reinforcements even though it was the first world hit. Also It's been made canon that Tali took some of the Normandy SR-1's stealth tech and brought it back to the migrant fleet since the ship you meet the admirals on has that same tech. Ashley was right the entire time.

Don't listen to them Data, we all know how awesome she is.

I'd love to see the heat I'd get if I dared say anything bad about one of the other characters in one of the other character threads on here.

Heh. I did something like that before. But I only said, "Why would your Shepard's risk Tali's health for sex?"

As usual, the guy just started flaming Ashley, claiming she was a racist lmao. When people call Ashley a racist in the Tali thread it just makes me laugh even more. BSN is never going to change. Posted Image

At least we get an idea of what Kaidan was doing: Teaching/tutoring biotics for military high-risk operations.
We haven't a f*cking clue what happened to Ash in the last few years.

Blah. I had wondered what Ash had been doing. I figured that maybe the information was probably available via romanced conversations. (I only have FemSheps. I love Ash's snarks.)

She definitely does say that. ;)

Also there was some extra dialogue (via Galactic News console on the Citadel) about Ashley (if she died) in Mass Effect 2. Don't know if you heard this before:

Gunnery Chief Ashley Williams, who died fighting Saren on Virmire, was posthumously awarded the Salarian Silver Dagger and the Turian Nova Cluster.  Williams served proudly with non-human crew members and was once heard to say, "Human or alien, we're all just animals." She is the first Alliance soldier to recieve either award.

Look on the bright side. At least you can disprove arguments about her being racist. The biggest complaint about Kaidan is that he's "whiny." Harder to argue about that since it's way more subjective. =p

Poor Ashley and Kaidan, both great characters and yet they both recieve far too much criticism and complaints from other players.

I think the reason for that is people get the wrong impression about Ash. If they don't romance her and don't pay attention to her dialog they can take her for a racist and a xenophobe. But Ash is just looking out for humanity and the alliance she doesn't hate aliens and she wouldn't sacrifice their lives just to reach some goals like TIM would.

Yep. But they're humans - what do you expect? Basically, Tali and Garrus represent their culture and race, so they've got that going for them as well.

Calling Ashley a racist is just wrong though. It's such a strong and offensive title which shouldn't be used unless it's a fact, and it isn't. And makes the person look like an ignorant and abusive idiot.

I never understood why people call Kaidan a whiner either. He's reluctant to talk. I think it's just the haters' way of saying they don't like him.

Shepard: I want more ass.
Ashley: Say that again.
Shepard: I want more Ash.
Ashley: That's more like it ... now rub my ass, your girl needs some relaxation after a long, hard day in the battlefield.
Shepard: Only if you give me a massage ... *smirks*
Ashley: Depends on how you do your current assignment, soldier!

I wonder is the fact that Ashley is a human plays a part in people claiming she's racist? I mean no one says anything about Tali or the other alien races being racist against humanity yet as soon as a human says they don't fully trust aliens walking round a special human ship that human is suddenly racist and a bigot. I wonder do people see the aliens as alien and so they are different to us and so can't be racist, like how some people feel only white people can be racist or only men can be sexist.

It seems that way.

If it was ex-Cerberus on the Normandy SR1 Ashley would have the same concerns, no doubt. Her having mild concerns about the aliens onboard, reading through classified information and gadgets is similar to the STG not letting Shepard and crew poke around their base and research.

It's not racism. You're just not part of the organization.

I wonder if Hackett and Shepard turn out to be friends of some sort. Anderson and Shepard were indeed friends, nearly family - and Hackett seems to have some sort of connection to him too. Does that connection also include Ashley? Despite being formal and such, Hackett feels not that detached from the troops he commands compared to most Generals I know. Maybe it has to do with the fact Hackett worked his way from frontline duty as soldier to an Admiral ...

I'd say that Shepard and Hackett's relationship is a working one. I heard some theory floating around is that Hacket is Earthborn/Spacer Shepard's Dad, but I highly doubt that's the case.

Personally, I like the idea. In fact, I've adopted it for my new canon FShep's backstory (she was born "Azzandra Hackett," but took her mother's name- who kept her maiden name when she married Hackett- when she enlisted in the Alliance Marines to prevent accusations of nepotism). I can understand why some people wouldn't like it (after all Shepard and Hackett can wind up looking dramatically different from each other), but that's why it's called "headcanon" and not specified as lore by BW.
