Does anyone see Ashley's Spectre status as legit? This something i've thought about ever since Udina's coup happened. The way i see it, the only reason he made her a Spectre was to protect him after he was in control.

I'm debating whether or not Ashley deserves to be a Spectre, just the circumstances that lead her to become one.

Yeah, Udina made her a Spectre only for his reasons. For protection and he needed someone from Shepard's team on his side.

The thing with Ash is that yea obviously Udina only made her a Spectre for his own reasons but I don't think that means she deserves it any less.
If it wasn't for Udina then no she wouldn't be a Spectre in ME3 but I think she might have gotten it after the war anyway. Plus if you think what she accomplished even when she wasn't with Shepard then I think she is a fine choice for a Spectre. Obviously I am biased and love Ash and accept easily that she is made a Spectre but I believe she would have earned it anyway.

It's not how she became a Spectre that matters, it's what she does as a Spectre.

Very profound DWH. In fairness though after Udina is there any real reference to her Spectre status and does she do anything with it? I can't remember anything

The news guy on the Citadel refers to her by name as the "second human Spectre." So, it seems she maintains the status.

Oh it's terribly cheesy and Shepard looks like an elf but it's the only one I could find ok!?!?!?! It's more the idea rather than the actual picture that I love!

I agree, it's just i'm sure Ash feels a little dirty being used like that.  Especially by Udina!

I don't think Ashley deserves to be a Lt. cmdr just yet. The promotion doesn't make any sense. Perhaps if BW took the time and effort to explain that, and other stuff when it came to Ash... but alas, they couldn't give two damns. We don't know what she did in the space of three years, so who knows what she's done. All her missions were highly classified if I remember right.

As for being a spectre, I think she deserves it and fits the bill. If humanity needs another human spectre (which they do) well, she's the next best thing the Alliance has got right after Shepard. So why not? She's never going to stray, unlike Shepard and others. However, I don't think it's something Ash actually wanted deep down, but she accepted because she thought she could make a difference with that power and those resources in such a crucial time.

Remember, it's not just Udina who makes the call. The other councilors must have seen her as worthy of her status too.

Even if Udina offered her the position, doesn't it take the whole council to approve it?

Plus, she did totally help save the council's life during the coup (keeping them from Cerberus, then joining Shep when he showed up (at least in my playthrough)).

Yea, this is something I'm looking to explore in a fic. If you reject her after the Citadel coup and make her a war asset, Shepard's dialogue is basically "You're a commander now, you should be making a difference with your own ship and squad now." Kaidan jumped from LC to Commander to Major over the ME trilogy while Ash went from NCO to CO so fast. It'd be interesting to see how she earns it, since you never see her with the 212 on Eden Prime while James Vega discusses his own leadership (or failing at it) when he's invited to N7.

Not to worry, Danny. I'm sure it was a good performance on Shepard's part. Why else would Ashley be smiling like that before walking into an almost certain suicide mission? There's only one reason for it...



She liked it.
Shepard however, looks like, "Meh. Was average."  Or could be the cause of a bad dream. Not sure.

The way the rankings were treated really bugs me. According to the ME Wiki, Shepard is a Lt Cmndr which makes Ash the same rank as of ME3. While Kaidan is a Major, out ranking them both. Both Ash and Kaiden jump several ranks in the span of six months from the end of ME2 to the start of ME3. Also, Shepard is constantly referred to as simply "Commander", even in the EC ending where his name plate is being put up, but there is no Commander rank in the codex. w...t...f

I know I'm just nit picking, but if you're going to cannonize something in a game and then don't follow it then it will bug the hell out of me.
