Just swinging by to voice some support for everyone's favorite Alliance marine, since I don't think I've done that since ME3 came out. Hope all's well, fellow Ash-fans. Hold the line!

Edit: DWH! Hi!! Image IPB How's life??

Holy crap, Batlass!

I'm okay. Still in the D.C. area. Did another Hill internship the last half of 2011, then since January I've mostly been doing temp work so I don't go broke. Things are looking up a little, though - I managed to set up a really good job as a temporary Legislative Correspondent for a U.S. Senator. Basically filling in for a staff member who's out on maternity leave starting next week and lasting until mid-October. Really looking forward to it, since it's a chance to hold an actual staff position as opposed to an internship.

How about yourself? Are you still in law school? I can't remember how much time you had left.

Loyal romance - After the Citadel date, we get a bonus scene where Ashley is staring out the window, Shepard hugs her from behind and they have a brief chat about some subject or another where Shepard in his usual blunt/corny fashion asks her to move up to his cabin. She playfully remarks about needing some 'convincing' which Shepard happily ablidges. Maybe even have that 'what was the otherside like' conversation that got cut from development as pillow talk afterwards.

Afterwards, she's moved up to the loft and is working at the second smaller desk next to Shepard's lounge chair. There, we'll have some ambient dialogue going on and maybe Ashley'll wonder around the cabin. Either lying down on the lounge or sitting comfortably on the bed. Shepard'll have the option of joining her for brief conversations/makeout/lovemaking.

In the pre-earth romance scene, Shepard'll wonder into his cabin looking the most rundown he has all game and goes immediately to work, ignoring Ash's presense in the room. She approaches him, gives the standard peptalk similar to what we have now. Saying yes - Shepard and Ash make love, saying no - Ashley accepts but pulls you to the bed and encourages you to rest.

At least that's how it'd work if I was doing it.

I like this dynamic for a loyal romance.

Another factor we have to consider is a Shepard who stays loyal in ME2, but for some reason fools around with Allers, or even Chambers, in ME3, since you can do that with either of them.

There should at least be subtle differences in how Shepard acts towards her. I understand (though I'm not sure) if you do that currently, Shepard just says "Ash" instead of telling her that he loves her.

I honestly don't think I could bring myself to fool around with either of those two, though. With Allers, it just seems odd, given that Shepard stayed loyal when presented with potential partners who were, frankly, more compelling than Allers in ME2. And even if I could get Chambers to show up (I can't, since I never have dinner with her) sleeping with her then moving on seems like one of the most piggish things Shepard can do, given that she has PTSD and Shepard has to profess interest in a future together to get her in bed.

I have to say, that I really like this idea.  (Perhaps this is blasphemy, but I'd like to see a similar alteration to the faithful Liara romance as well).  From what I've seen, there's something similar in the Kaidan romance, and I think it works really well.  If you've been loyal to someone for so long, and you know them so well, saying no to sex should not cause them to run out of the cabin like you just shot their puppy.  Love/caring=/=[just] sex.

I'm glad you're still in DC and holding on to the dream!  I have faith in you!!  Congrats on the temp job.  Now all you have to do is cultivate that woman's maternal instincts to the point where she does not want to come back to work after October.  Not that I'm suggesting you adopt any sort of villianous behavior.  That would be less than heroic.  :innocent:

I graduated law school in May and now I'm ostensibly studying for the bar.  No job lined up as of yet, but I keep telling myself that having a job doesn't matter if I don't become an actual lawyer, lol.

Have you heard from any of the old folks?  Do they still hang around?  (I've bumped into a couple on ME3 multiplayer, but that's pretty much it).  I'm going to try to make a little more of an effort to be around in the future.  I think I've finally recovered from the endings, so I can be enthusiastic about ME again, lol.

Ash's puppy face is unbearable. Its like you just kicked a litter of puppies and then sucker punched her in the gut. Feels bad man.

There should have been a snuggle session like in ME2 after the suicide mission at least. Though, my Shepard don't spoon..

Except that for that to work, everyone would have had to be alive and on the ship at the end of ME3.  <_<

Wow, apparently I'm addicted to smilies these days.  Sorry, everyone.  It'll probably calm down soon.

The OT is really inactive these days. Unfortunately, there are still lingering bad feelings, so quite a few of the people who hang around there still don't post in the regular Ash thread.

The endings really gutted me, so much that I stopped my involvement with CDN and nearly gave up on ME entirely. I came back to the BSN, the Ash thread in particular, to help develop a head canon ending that would let me leave the franchise behind.

From what I've read about the Extended Cut, the endings now seem acceptable, though I still don't think they're all that spectacular. I'm at least willing to buy story DLC now, though I doubt I'll want to bother with Bioware games in the future. Their writers are full of themselves and they have a poor relationship with their fans.

Yeah, and have her moving to the loft as the reward for Loyalty to her. Along with Kaidan. And mew ME3 games, but only if you buy them the gift from the hospital shop and met other requirements too.

@Batlass I'm saying it could have been a reward for a loyal Shepard. Call her up for some snuggles when everyone wants to come up, at that one point of the game or something.

I don't want my Ashley pregnant if Shepard isn't around in person. I was almost expecting BW would have your LI discovering they are pregnant in the EC, I didn't want it to happen but thought it might, assuming of course you aren't a femshep or gay

I'm glad they didn't do that. It'd be just. So. Stupid.

Ash is smart enough to use birth control, and I'd have to assume that a 2186 era starship with a fully stocked medical bay and a crew with both men and women would provide access to it.

I'm just hoping that Liara isn't the one who's carrying Edwin Shepard's baby. Image IPB

Shepard: Wait... isn't this "mind gift" similar to the way that asari reproduce?
Liara: Um. No. Not at all. It's just an innocent meld.
Shepard: If this is such common practice, why haven't I heard of it before?
Liara: I... Uh... I'm sure you have. You probably just forgot. Because you had more important things on your mind.
Shepard: I don't know. Maybe I should talk to Ash about this.
Liara: NO! I mean... No need. I'm sure she'd be... I mean, she IS okay with it. I asked her myself.
Shepard: Well... all right. If you say Ash is okay with this.
Liara: Oh, she is. Really, she is!

@DWH: Too bad about the bad feelings. BUT, I still have you! *hugs fervently* I know what you mean about the endings though. Although in my case after sitting in stunned, disbelieving silence for quite a while, I immediately went over to my laptop and banged out a series of very short, very terrible fanfic snippets that started out trying to make sense of the ending and then just turned into fluffy pieces I want to use in a future 'Katydid' fanfic. Hooray for headcanon!

@BP93: Ah, that makes a lot more sense. And it's a good idea. To make it different from the ME2 'cuddles' and to accommodate non-cuddle-loving Shepards, maybe it could be the two of them sitting on the couch reading/doing paperwork and just leaning on each other?

@The concept of posthumous babies: I vote a resounding 'no.' That definitely would have made the EC terrible. The way things are, people can headcanon poor family planning or assume that Shep and Ash were responsible adults. And that is for the best.

Edit: @DWH: Aw, poor Liara.  I've actually become a pretty big fan of hers.  Granted, there is room to interpret her as a crazy, creepy stalker, but I really think she's just a good, nice (if awkward) friend of Shepard.

Well if Shepard will ever have a child you know it'll be with Liara, no matter who your actual LI is

Ash: Oh. My. God. Shepard, you do realize you're on the shipwide intercom, right?
Shepard:.... CRAP.
Garrus: Why don't you ever invite me up to spoon?
Javik: In my cycle, we kept our private lives private.

I agree with the sentiment that a showing the LI being pregnant in the EC would have been stupid. But, that is what head canon is for and I am not opposed to the idea of Ash becoming pregnant during her night with Shepard.

It seems like half the fanbase is terrified of Liara having their Shepard's kid lol

I'm afraid that if she WISHED to, she could - that is could be achieved. Especially two centuries later when Ashley's dead and can't do nothing about it lmao. She'll be turning in her grave.

I had a headcanon ending that involved disregarding everything after Anderson's death. In my last ME3 playthrough (which was only my second) I even stopped playing as soon as I got to Star Brat.

From what I understand of the EC, the Star Brat is now acceptable enough for me to ditch my established head canon. I feel bad about EDI and the geth being killed off, though. Especially after all the work I put in to resovling the geth/quarian situation so that both sides could survive.

My only real issue with Liara, to be honest, is the unequal time she gets in ME3.

I acutally kind of like the idea of her having a lingering thing for Shepard. I think it works, so it's part of my head canon.

In my head canon, during her final gift, Shepard actually lets her experience the feelings he has for Ash, in the hope that it will finally allow her to accept who he's in love with and move on.

Eh. Me either. It's a nice thought if your Shepard died, and left "that" behind for Ash.

Although, I do pity her as well, if that's the case. But in a way, I can see pregnancy motivating her to carry on without Shepard.

Well it could be a nice thing but it could also remind Ashley every day about the man she's lost twice! Plus that kid is never gonna know his dad which is a very sad situation. If they had included a pregnant LI I would have turned it off immediately.

I only want a pregnant Ash if Shepard is there to fuss and fret over her, so much so that Ash eventually has to say 'Skipper! Relax, I'm fine'. Then they kiss and Shepard says 'I just want to make sure you're both ok' before kissing her belly....ah the sap....

Yea, I know.

I'm sure it would break her heart as well, knowing that the baby would never know his/her father. And I'm sure there's one person Ash would want the kid to meet more than any other - and that can't happen. Ever. Which would be god damn depressing for her. Of course Ash would more than likely wear that brave face of hers for the kid's sake.  But... THE INWARD FEELS.

For those of us who like it, sap is a good thing.
