It also reminds me of Dragon Age Origins. *semi-spoilers* My Warden didn't want to die, so he did the ritual with Morrigan so he could survive the final battle. Thing is, the only reason he wanted to live was to be with Leliana, a women my Warden fell in love with during their travels together. Like Ash, Leliana gave my Warden his motivation to fight...though he had other personal reasons as well.

I agree with you two (Krukow and Badpie) and thought the same way. Ash gives Shepard a reason to fight, a reason to live and a reason survive.

How do you think Ashley would feel about that? And if Shepard had the option to tell her before he did it, what would she say? No? Yes? Maybe? Can I watch?

Yes. And I think things were different for my Shep in ME3. It became personal for him. For the first time ever, this was a personal fight. It had been about everyone else, about duty, but ME3 made it personal. For my Shepard it was the grand scale of things that he couldn't handle. He had to put a face on winning the war. That face was Ash. So on Mars when he almost lost her he nearly broke down. You saw how for the first time ever Liara actually had to FORCE him to be present, to think about the mission. And then, for me the end of the EC when he makes her leave is literally his last effort. If he believes that she's safe, even for a little longer he wins. And he doesn't have to worry about her. Her being safe was the most important thing.
The Council Standoff is interesting, because Edwin Shepard never would have been able to bring himself to shoot Ash.
It's to the point where he now has a major weakness where she's concerned. After the standoff, he lies to Garrus, basically says something along the lines of "If we start shooting the people important to us, we might as well stop fighting." But that's just an excuse - he knows what he should have been able to do if Ash didn't stand down, but he also knows he'd never be able to do it. He'd sooner let her shoot him, or let the Council die.
After the war - if any of Shepard's enemies want to get to him, they'd probably target Ash. Losing her would just screw him up. Not that she'd be an easy target. And in the end, even if they could kill her, things for them would probably turn out the same way they did for the people who killed Thane's wife.

Shepard: 'I'm the same person I always was, Ash. And I want you with me, wherever this takes us.'
Ashley: *smiling* That's what I needed to hear.
Shepard: *smiling fondly back.* Good.
Just imagine how much potential there could have been if Ash wasn't bashed by Core and on the Normandy for at least the Palaven mission.

Technically that already happened in one. Remember all the times liara forced a mindmeld with Shepard?
I will admit, none of my Shepards found her particularly endearing after that. Not my colonist nor my Earthborns. My Spacer... he, uh, He wasn't happy about it, but understood the necessity... but still couldn't understand why he could just tell her what he saw.

My Renagon hates all Asari for various reasons, listed in Duet Effect. Liara forcing a mindmeld - why nessecary, doesn't improve her opinions.
My Paragade, he doesn't mind Liara as a friend, but wants her at a distance and REALLY adores the concept of privacy. Something she can't seem to grasp.

Because he doesn't understand them himself? Liara's supposed to be the expert, however it still takes hearing "OHHHHH GODDESS THE IMAGES ARE INTENSE." like three/ four times to get there.

I can't crush her hopes is my main issue. Even during the confrontation between her and the VS, I have to 'let her down gently'. I can't look at her and bluntly say 'Why the hell are you even here?' and rudely tell her to ****** off. I'm not that type of person on in real life, but I still would have liked the option at least as a renegade morality check.

I never had a problem with Liara until ME3, where she's all clingy. But I guess that's the writers fault and not the character herself. She was clearly designed to be the romance for a newcomer.

I have Gold subscription. It was a special, 2$=2 month. Could something like that work for you Danny.
My main problem with XBL right now. Where I am staying, I only got one ethernet cord and one phone jack in my room. So, I have to manually take the cord out of my laptop and plug it into my xbox. I can't do both at the same time.

I would follow the same course of action in DA:O...don't tell Leliana, so don't tell Ashley. Consequences would be unpleasent.
Now, would I go through with it.....possibly.

That's also another issue of mine. Shepard is a Special Forces officer, an N7. He has access to all kinds of military secrets. How the hell does he know that she's not poking around in them. It's also one of the reasons why my Renagon is so against her poking around her brain.
Especially the first time, Shepard knows nothing about her, she's the daughter of one of Sarens lieutenants, she claims she's 'not her mother' or in any way connected to her. How do I know she's telling the truth within five minutes of meeting her? I have no idea about this Asari or what she is like and neither does Shepard. And I'm not gonna place my trust in her within a few minutes of meeting her. And I think it's pathetic writing that Shepard automatically does.

Yeah, I agree BP. It's clear enough that Liara was set up to be pretty much perfect for the new player, considering everything, and comparing her build up to Ashley‘s. The player can ruin a chance at romance with Ashley with certain dialogue choices when she's not even present! Besides, Liara's lock-in happens way before Ash's.
You can't really blame Ashley for being jealous and suspecting something’s up with that. Every time Liara melds with Shepard all she hears is, “OH GODESS!” like the woman is experiencing pure ecstasy.

Sorry, but if I was ever with a woman who uttered those words during you know what, I'm out. See ya. All bets are off.
And to help take the awkwardness out of this post, I present you this... I posted this in PP but it seems hardly anyone goes there anymore so I'll repost here:
Ch.
12: Commander in Chief[/b]
(takes
place 3 years after the events of Ch. 11, in Toronto)
“Now I worked my ass off to get the Salarian Unionto even agree to this meeting. The Turians are going to be there too, so you tell Wrex, Mike that if he backs out now a grudge is going to be the least of his problems, alright? And if he won’t listen, try talking to Bakara. If
there’s anybody that he’ll listen to, it’s her.” Shepard ordered his chief of
staff, Mike Nolan.
“Yes, Mr. President. I’ll get on that right away.”
Mike had been an invaluable asset to Shepard. For
every obstacle Shepard encountered politically, Mike knew how to overcome it.
For every piece of trouble he encountered, Mike knew how to play it. For every
decision, Mike had an opinion.
Due to the galaxy wide recovery from the Reaper war,
politics had only just begun taking precedent again. Earth remained under
military control for the duration after the destruction of the Reapers. After
much thoughtful deliberation, sleepless nights, and backing of close friends
and supporters, Shepard decided to enter the game of politics. Unable to ever
fully recover from his injuries, he thought to himself that it would be an
alley in which he could still be of use, even if politics annoyed him more than
anything else. People were still wary of the leadership and of the amount of
trust they could put into them after the war, especially with the actions of
Udina still fresh in everyone’s mind. This factor made Shepard a popular
choice; a military man. Arguably the savior of the galaxy. No power ambitions
to get in the way. In public opinion, Earth had operated smoothly for the most
part while the military was in charge. This led to a sizeable victory in the
elections for Shepard, for he was one of the few people that voters could feel
comfortable in getting behind, unable to put their trust in any actual
politicians just yet.
The Systems Alliance underwent intense restructuring
politically. With the destruction of Arcturus Station, the scandal with Udina,
and the new location of the Citadel hovering above Earth, the Alliance had
little choice but to make reforms. Humanity no longer had a Councilor to
represent them, instead the President (ditching the Parliamentary style of
government) now acted as a liaison
between the Council and the Alliance thus making the President’s duties even
more vital than they ever were before.
Shepard had been in office for just over a year now and had settled into
the role quite nicely over the past few months.
“If the Krogan eventually want anything to do with
galactic politics, they need to be there.” Shepard remarked to Mike before the
two of them went their separate ways.
Standing at the end of the hallway was Ashley, with
her arms folded and smiling as Shepard approached her. Ashley gave him a small
kiss on the right cheek when he met her.
“Did you honestly expect Wrex to keep a cool head
about this?” she asked.
“Heh…I don’t know. Lately he’s been so cooperative
though.” replied Shepard, shrugging his shoulders.
“You know what they say, cooler heads always
prevail.” Ashley quipped.
“I could much less give a damn who prevails, just as
long as the people who said they’d show up actually show up…” retorted Shepard,
trying not to chuckle as he said it.
This summit between the Humans, Turians, Krogan, and
Salarians was designed to begin initial negotiations about finding an extra
home for the emerging Krogan. Some remaining mass relays to the Terminus
Systems have yet to be repaired, thus it was the idea that if those relays were
to be fixed, the Krogan could find a planet to settle for themselves.
Rebuilding a single relay though was a process that required time and a vast
amount of resources. Initially the Turians were skeptical about this idea,
letting the Krogan essentially run rampant in the Terminus Systems didn’t seem
like a plausible idea. The Salarians however, stood more firmly. They wanted
none of it but eventually agreed to be present at the summit after weeks of
beckoning from Shepard and the Turian leaders. Urdnot Wrex balked when he heard
the Salarians would be there, still unable to get over the fact that the
Salarians tried to sabotage the genophage cure.
“So how are you feeling today? Any better?” asked
Ashley as they continued on down the hallway before entering a quiet room at
the far end.
“No different.” Shepard answered as he set down a
datapad on the table and began to take off his jacket. “They can bring me back
from the dead but they can’t fix a stiff back and a bum shoulder?”
Ashley smiled and approached him, offering to help
with the task of taking off his suit jacket.
“Thanks.” he noted.
“You know there’s virtually nothing they can do
about it. You’re not as robotic as you used to be, Shepard. Believe it or not,
you’re actually somewhat human again…” Ashley teased as she began to unfasten
the back brace Shepard wore.
“Never imagined the day that I would be longing for
more cybernetics.”
“Anymore of those and I’d question if you were the
real you again…” Ashley continued to tease.
“Please don’t. I’m already questioned enough by
others as it is.” replied Shepard.
Ashley finished loosening the brace and proceeded to
massage his back with her hands.
“Aww, that feels good. Right there…You would think
that since this whole meeting revolves around the…AHH…Krogan that Wrex
would…just suck it up and be…there.”
Shepard could barely talk straight as Ashley ran her
hands along his back. She finished up by delivering a playful smack to his
behind before walking over to the desk.
“Sit. Standing for long periods of time doesn’t
help, you know.”
“Yes, ma’am.” answered Shepard as he took a
seat.
“I’m surprised he’s not more angry with you,
considering you never told him either.” Ashley said.
“Yeah, well I didn’t end up going through with it
either. Think that got me some points at least.” responded Shepard, rubbing his
right shoulder.
------------

Exactly! Thats what my main Shepard did. Went after Ashley and STG team in order to save em all.
Left Kaidan with the bomb, because its more prudent to run away from bombs and that I'd know he'd hold it. Also as a fellow officer, I took his advice vs the Gunny's (cold I know).Honoured his sacrifice by killing a whole lot of Geth
For the record, I still fought Saren twice, at the Citadel.
