I know, I read it. Thanks for the explaination!Posted Image I still don't really like Ashley all that much, but I do however want to get to know her character more and understand her. I will still never romance her since I like the idea of Shepard and Miranda being together, but I am open to hearing more about Ashley's life. The one good thing that I can say about Ash is that I loved it how she was their to comfort her sister at her sister's husband's funeral.

Well, you still can romance Ash in ME1 and move on in ME2 with Miranda. It's not cheating on Miranda that way

Okay, I'm biased - Ash is simply my favorite LI in the series, despite the fact BW dropped the ball for her character in ME3. To get in touch with her requires to play ME1 and romance her. A friendship path without sexy outcome is - as far as I know - quite difficult for man!Shep if not going after Liara too.

The funny part is: Ashley is a character you won't like after few brief dialogues. She's stubborn, speaks her mind, nearly has no redeeming features as long as you stay on the surface. In that way, Ashley is much like Miranda - Miri is cold towards anyone and to get her soft side, you need to work -really- hard.
In case of Ash it takes not that long, but you need to build up some trust before she's willing to allow you to learn more about her character. And then you learn that Ash is no religious zealot - she just believes in God. She's no racist but distrusts most people she don't know, alien and human alike. She's maybe even a nationalist, but that comes from her military background: every loyal soldier is more or less a nationalist. Even paragon Shepard. Especially guys from USA should understand patriotism - that's Ashley.

However, you need to go through her dialogues to learn all that stuff - plus some own stuff as well, you need to read between the lines.

By the way: the only reason why I still can't romance Miranda is the lack of romantic content in ME3. It's obvious she loves Shepard, but she has too little screentime.

By the way II: In case you do have a PS3, you really should get ME1 and maybe even the full series for PC. Even my old rig is still running ME3 smoothly, so you won't have to spend a small fortune to get one. ME1 itself should cost around $9 or something and ME2 isn't expensive either, 'though I recommend to buy the DLCs. ME3's prize should drop too soon.

As I said, I highly recommend to play ME1 and romance Ashley to get in touch with her. In a lot of points she's sharing features with Miranda. That's why Miri is the second character I'd romance - if I could ignore Ash in ME1 B)

I admit, this is the reason I am drawn to Ashley in ME1. There is something very attractive about a woman who speaks her mind and will voice her opinion to Shepard, let the military regulations be damned.

I disagree, part of the reason I like Ashley is becaue she's os blunt and upfront about her feelings, which allows her character development with a Paragon Shepard to shine through and overcome her distrust of aliens.

Even in ME2 I respected her for sticking to her guns and hating Cereberus for what they've done...

Maybe it's because I'm British, so I'm naturally attracted to women who argue with me and are capable of kicking my arse...

^ I'm German and I'm incredible attracted to women like Ashley.

In fact, Ash -IS- the very dreamtype for me: beautiful appearance and character. The "true equal", so to speak.

IMO Ashley is by far most interesting LI in ME (hating in 3, 2, 1, 0..)

Human characters had one advantage in ME 1, and that is they didn't have to be encyclopedia. Historical content was distributed through Anderson, Kaiden, Ashley, Pressly, Chakwas, while for example, Liara was your only Asari source. Not to mention Tali who, beyond being quarian encyclopedia, has very lacking content in ME 1.

This alowed human character to have more depth and it shows really good with Ashley. I don't think that anybody can beat Ash and Kaiden content from ME 1 when it comes to character exploration and depth. They had many sides and many issues. They were the only characters who felt 'real' IMO :/

Mass Effect 2 took an unfortunate turn when it comes to character conversations. I have all my playthrough recorded and i can tell you that talking with 6 people in ME 1 usually lasts ~30 minutes.
In Mass Effect 2, talking with 10 characters takes ~10-15 minutes tops. Make what you will out of it

True. I remember the very first time I reached the citadel. I could spend hours there before advancing to the other planets. It still is the best hub with the best ambience soundtrack.

2nd best is the Afterlife on Omega. The "firewall" entrance with pumping music before the doors open & you see asari dancers all over the place. Very cool! (I wanna go to outer space, dammit!)

ME3 hub/citadel. :?

*lol* But.. this is the ASHLEY thread. We're your people, sousek. There is no hate here :pinched:

Characters as encyclopedia/codex is an interesting point. I hadn't really thought of them that way, but they really do just stand around serving up background information to make the Mass Effect universe more "plausible."

I'm a huge Ash fan, but I enjoyed romancing Miranda in 2. She actually seemed like a real woman once she opened up to Shepard. However, in 3 she had so little interaction and was so focused on finding her sister that it felt like her feelings had changed. So I turned her down and she turned away and cried, felt like an a-hole after that. I understand that sometimes writers can't include everything to everyone's satisfaction, but at the same time if you're going to open the door for romance options for multiple characters and then offer little to no resolution or option for continuation other than "Yeah, I still want to be with you." is unsatisfying for everyone.

Even so, I prefer the lady with the boomstick than the one the gratuitous ass-shots.

scotiej - Ash and Miranda are -really- similar in that field. They don't throw themselves at Shepard right from the beginning. The game creates the illusion Shepard had to put some effort in them to gain their trust and finally their love. It's really easy to do so, that's why I say "illusion" - but it works.

Tali feels far more like she's trying to get in Shepard's pants. Same (and even more so) Liara. "Hard to get" is Jack. Also not that easy is Cortez, since you need to comfort him first. Kaidan isn't also throwing himself at Shepard. But Ash and Miranda feel like the two characters you -really- have to work your ass off just to get noticed in a romantic way.

Which is an effing great accomplishment of the writers ^^

I have a question, if you choose to shoot Ash in ME3 why does she tell Shepard that she hopes that the Reapers will send him to hell? That is not a very nice thing for her to say, that is also one of the reasons why are very much dislike her.

Yeah, you're right. She should say, "Gee, Shepard, I'm sorry I got in the way of your bullet."

You just f*cking SHOT HER. How did you expect her to react?

Sorry I meant no offense to the Ashley fans on this thread,Posted Image I was just asking a question that has been on my mind. I guess I can see why she would be upset since Shepard did shoot her, but still, she should have believed that Shepard didn't shoot the council member, because haven't Ashley and Shepard been through a lot together in the first game? Shouldn't Ash trust Shepard more?Posted Image

If someone you new -- someone you would have gave up your career for at a time (and did) shot you, would you be p*ssed? Because I would.

Kaidan and Ashley react differently. They're different people. And we all know Ashley is more of a fighter than Kaidan, both verbal and physical. That's why we like her. Even after getting shot by her old Commander she still shows her fighting spirit, so to speak.

Ashley can believe and trust Shepard in that situation. You just need to visit her in the hospital and make an attempt at actually trying to mend the relationship. If you don't show up,Ashley probably thinks you don't give a crap about her, or her life, since she almost died helping you out on Mars.

I've explained the coup so many times to people. In short, Ashley's got a duty and with an unexpected invasion by Ceberus, she's more than liekly on edge. She's expecting Cerberus running through the door pointing a gun at her - not Shepard.

Wasup, guys. I miss anything?

That's exactly how my headcanon saw it, too. Ash and Miranda don't need you/Shepard, you/Shepard needs THEM. I liked making Miranda someone Shepard would be drawn to in Officially Unofficial, because she and Ash really are similar (though they'd still probably hate each other).

I don't really see Tali as trying to get into Shepard's pants. She's more like a lovesick puppy. She respects him for saving her life and adores him. Liara is a slightly older version of Tali, since Shepard also saved HER life and probably developed feelings for him the same way.

Hence the reason why I like Ash & Miranda equally.

On the topic of Ashley and Miranda, obviously I've thrown my hat into Ashleys corner and have been and always will be a big fan. But while doing my first ME2 play through I cheated on Ash with Miranda. I think Miranda is a great character and I'm annoyed we couldn't either have more interaction with her in ME3 or get the chance to bring her into our squads. I thought she was very interesting in ME2 and a fascinating character to learn about. However, my only real complaint is with her romance. I just thought she felt cold throughout the game and lacked just a bit of warmth and humour that, in my opinion, makes me so drawn to the Ashley romance. As I said Miranda is a great character but her relationship just feels physical in ME2 rather than having any real emotional depth to it whereas I feel Ashley has both. But that's just me

Random soldier: Holy crap, it's Commander Shepard and his squad. They're the greatest! Maybe... maybe if I stand just off to the side, I can trick everyone into thinking I'm with them. Yeah! Yeah! I'm the greatest! We'll all do this together!

Ash: Wait... Who the heck is that random soldier, and why is he pretending to be part of the squad? Posted Image

In that photo it sort of looks like Shepard is looking at him thinking 'Who in the blue hell are you?'
