Lt. Commander Ashley Williams thread: "Don't 'Ash' me!" We're Back Baby!

Actually, it's pretty sad how little I tend to deviate from my "canon" Shep. I'll experiment slightly with decisions the first few playthroughs, but when I've settled on what "fits" Edwin Shepard, it's what I stick with. Really, I should come up with a second Shepard or something, because there's so much I'm missing out on.
For me, though, it's like rewatching a favorite movie. Anything other than Edwin Shepard and "his" decisions seems off. I think the biggest change was when i switched from sole survivor to war hero, because I thought that background suits him a little better.

I've still never really found Kaidan terribly interesting. Raphael Sbarge is a little too stuttery and strange as Kaidan. But... If Ash were there Shep wouldn't have the heart to find anyone else.

Same thing with DA:O, I can't help but romance Leliana. They're just my kind of women.

Yeah, I don't know why so many people like Morrigan. She's so mean.

Could it be due to the fact that she's basically got strips of cloth barely covering her "assets"?
I know I do the character a great disservice, but you could to admit thats part of the draw.

I thought I was the only one who did this. I roleplay my Mass Effect characters hardcore. My Shep is a mix of Paragon and Renegade. Maybe like 80% Paragon and 20% Renegade. I just can't bring myself to play any other way or romance anyone other than Ashley.
My Shep is Earthborn War Hero. It just feels so right. Romancing Ashley who has a huge family and here comes my Shep who has no one. Doesn't know his family. It's like playing a movie.

In my headcanon games, Ashley gets the Spacer/Hero/Paragon Shep who's a good patient boy scout to her harder edged snark. But he can dish it out, too. Tali gets the Colonist/Sole Survivor/Paragon with the tortured past to make all better with her kindness. Liara gets the bad boy since she's the only one who'd put up with that crap. Haven't done ME3 on my renegade FemShep yet, who threw in with Kaidan then dumped his ass for Thane. I'll probably just toss her at Traynor and call it a day.
@dahellraider: Claudia Black is pretty rad. She certainly made Admiral Daro'Xen a force to be reckoned with.
Morrigan and Miranda have similar characteristics, lack of trust but flaunting their sexuality. I flip flop between sympathizing and respecting their hard-to-get emotional side... and saying "forget it, you ****es don't deserve the rad Warden/Shepard I'm sporting."

I befriended Morrigan and got to see where she was coming from but I still don't prefer her as a romantic choice. Too pragmatic for my taste.

Yes, there is more detail in ME1 about Ash's family.
Basics: she has 3 sisters (Abby, Lynn and Sarah was the one on the Citadel). Her father served the Alliance his whole life, though he died a few years before ME1. Her mom was a planetary geologist, still alive. Her grandfather, General Williams, fought in the First Contact War against the turians. Her family name was blacklisted from the Alliance after her grandfather surrendered a colony, so neither she nor her father ever had any hope of being promoted in the Alliance... Until she joined Shepard and helped him/her save the citadel.
So while Miranda was born into wealth and power but ran away, Ash was born into shame that she had to overcome.

Shanxi was getting its ass kicked by turians, and the human cost of keeping the colony became too high for General Williams to bear, so he surrendered. Humans got the colony back after the war was over, but Williams was marked down in ME history as "the only human to surrender to an alien race."
She's never mentioned if her grandfather was dead or not, just that some vague attempts were made to exonerate his actions but nothing came of it. The ME Wiki says he retired in disgrace to work construction out in some distant human colony, so it's probably safe to say she wasn't close to her grandfather.
As far as I'm aware, her grandfather nor father's names are ever mentioned, nor her mother's.

@FF13: My pleasure. Holler if you wanna know anything else about Ash, we've got nerds aplenty to throw info at ya. I hope Miranda gets a long overdue DLC so she can actually shine in ME3.

Me too!FahRENheit06 wrote...
@Time Lapse: I would assume so, since Ashley is only 25 years old at the start of ME1. That would put her dad in his late 40s, early 50s. The wiki says a lot of general genetic diseases had been eradicated, so it could've been maybe cancer or he was killed in the line of duty.

Cancer has been cured by this point.Time Laspe wrote...
@Ren - I do remember Ashley saying that her father never made it passed Servicemen class or something. Don't quite remember. Anyways, she says the first thing he did was salute when Ashley got promoted to Gunnery Chief. So perhaps he was already retired and was sick with cancer.
I'm thinking military personnel have short lifespans. After all Admiral Grissom died at only 75. We don't know how old Ash's father actually was either. People by this time frequently wait until their 40s to have children (though considering he never got past Serviceman 3rd class, I doubt he waited until he was in his mid-60s to retire- if he did, talk about stubborn to keep going hoping to get promoted higher up).

I got tired of everyone calling Ash a racist and just generally hating on her so I decided to write a rant or I guess character explanation. Its the way I see her so you may not agree with everything I mention in this. Two places to read it:

or
2. paul914.tumblr.com/post/27547909680/ashley-williams
