Wasn't the intention. Shep simply lost the will to move on with his life since his primary goal is no more. He's now a man without a job - or at least that's what he sees himself now. And he needs Ashley more than ever before to NOT fall into PTSD related depressions - he needs some meaninful work.


Ashley: This is my ship, my bridge and it's me giving orders. Now get here and give your commander a kiss, Skipper.

I can't imagine Ash leaving Shepard after ME3. I always pictured them helping each other through it afterwards, since they faced the war and everything together.

Shep left Ash. He couldn't stand himself anymore, especially since it took more than a year to recover and even now he's not fully healed (as you can see in his face ^^). Ashley is still fighting for their love, while he gave up.

At least that's my interpretation in the "dark Shepley future" ^^

I can also see an alternate future where Ashley leaves Shepard, but that setting is entirely different then. I rather go with a setting where Shepard left her since it's easier to explain. Ash fought so hard for their love, I can't see her breaking up without a good reason. And she's totally family orientated up to a point she would rather give herself up than anyone of her family - including Shepard. Means: regardless how bad he feels, how devastated he is, Ash won't go away - unless he sends her away. What he did.

*Short Silence*

Shepard: Barroom. Now. And I believe about half of you own me a few rounds.

My EB!Shepard would only leave Ashley if she left first.

That being said, after the Reaper war, he does ask her for a little time (ends up being a couple of years.) and space (disappears off the galactic map) to get his head screwed on straight. And when they meet up again.. let's just say it's a very, very, very good re-enactment of their first meeting, only they're in opposite positions... and yah know, Geth are dead... ish.

Fictional-wise nothing is more boring than an established romance you can't put in the emotional gutter anymore. Build it up, destroy it with prejudice, rebuild it ... sorry. I'm in my nasty-sexy-evil-mood today.

What's up with this dark a gloomy trend in here?

There's going to be a lot of mouring and both Ash or Shepard will never be the same, but... they'll stick it out together and help each other through the bad days. My Shepard won't give up on Ash, he's made it clear that he can't be without her. Whoever you romance in ME3, is flagged as Shepard's true love apparently.
But I like the idea, Data came up with. It's interesting, but not for my Shep.

Ya know in the Geth mission how you have to walk through that broken tunnel to the dreadnaught? I honestly expected the LI to inquire about Shepard post mission. Or at least have Shepard more shaken up by the experience due to PTSD. Walking through that tunnel, clear views of endless space, weapons firing muted in the background, yeah - dead ringer to the start of ME2.

Would have at least liked to see him/her having a flashback to the SR1 being destroyed. Like completely phased out (and probably hyperventilating) to the point where s/hes ignoring inquiries from the team, for a couple of seconds then snaps back to business.

 My Shepard will always love Ashley because she is the only woman for him. He knows he is not complete without her but he has to rediscover that on his own. And he also wants to give Ashley a chance to shine on her own instead of being in his shadow.

Speaking of the Geth mission: you know when Shepard and the team meet up again, and Ashley shows some concern and says, "Are you alright, Shepard?" Is that romance exclusive or what? I've always wondered that. It can also fly as friendship too, but I'm just curious.

I think the only change is 'Shepard' and 'Commander'... also, I think that they aren't 'locked in' at that point. Only afterwards.

WhywhyWHY does Ash not get to keep her rad heavy armor in ME3 after she becomes a Spectre? I thought they did a great job with the dark blue redesign. I also like the dark red and white Phoenix variation on her Spectre uniform for hanging around the ship, but again she only wears that in combat.
